This is why country music is unbeaten in its ability to tell a story about life. Guy Clark always brought it real, and this one runs the gamut of emotion and reflection.

His wife Susanna I had a couple of number one hits of her own and was an accomplished painter. She did the artwork for Guy’s first album and the cover art for Emmylou Harris‘s album “ quarter Moon in a ten cent town”'& The cover of Willie Nelson’s Stardust album. Richard Gruver

Thanks for doing this song. It’s my favorite Guy Clark song. As we get older we realize it’s the simple things that work that makes life great.

Don, Guy was also a talented luthier he built the guitars he played during his career. Also, no one knows where he is buried. Check out Dublin Blues. I went to Austin, just to eat at the chili parlor bar.

Never been to Texas, but from the beautifully talented singer/ songwriters. I’ve heard from Austin, it must have a wonderful atmosphere.😊 PS. I heard they have intentionally horrible margaritas to honour Guy.

Just discovered Guy Clark a while ago. The friend he mentions is his guitar player, Verlon Thompson, who doesn’t know if he’s a blessing or a curse, but shows up when the chips are down. Guy was a true craftsman. He crafted such great songs by surrounding himself with other hungry musicians, being able to self edit songs, and pure talent. He was also a builder of guitars, a beautiful painter, even a boat builder. He was a most interesting man.

Guy Clark is the greatest songwriter ever & id stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table & say that. I know you’ve done a lot of Guy’s songs in the past so I’m not positive wether you’ve done Comes From The Heart before but if you haven’t you should it has a similar feel to this.

I love Guy Clark, but theres one story on Bob Dylan from when he was a part of the Traveling Wilburys he wrote the song Tweeter and The Monkey Man in like i think it was 30 or 35 mins and did two takes on it and in under 2 hours had the version they used on the album. I remember in the interview with them Roy Orbison Tom Petty and George Harrison were all amazed he was able to write it on the spot like that and record it in 2 takes. In terms of all around I say Guy Clark is the best songwriter also, but its absolutely insane to me that Bob Dylan was able to do that.

Good one, Don. Great synopsis. Hey, here's a few I'd think you'd like if you haven't already sampled them : 1) Cowboy - "Please Be With Me" (The one with Duane Allman) 2) Area Code 615 - "Stone Fox Chase" (Old Grey Whistle Test Theme) ... "Classical Gas" 3) Stillwater - "Mind Bender" 4) Ozark Mountain Daredevils - "Chicken Train"... "If You Wanna Get To Heaven" 5) Atlanta Rhythm Section - "Spooky"... "Georgia Rhythm" 6) Wet Willie - "Dixie Rock" 7) Barefoot Jerry - "Proud To Be A Redneck" 8) Poco - "Keep On Tryin'" 9)Blackfoot - "Train, Train" 10) Little Feat - "Dixie Chicken"... "Let It Roll" Bye the way, nice "new digs" you moved yourself into there. 👍

Guy and Townes Van Zandt were inseparable when Townes was alive, and they are without a doubt the best songwriters ever, although Townes songs were a little depressing, excellent song choice Don

I hadn't heard this before. It made me cry. That means it was great. Guy Clark songs I know are Baby Took A Limo To Memphis and Texas 1947. Johnny Cash covered Texas 1947. Oh and Homegrown Tomatoes. Looking for these songs led to my finding a song I've been trying to find for years The Ballad Of Amazing Grace And Sideshow Dan by Roy Bookbinder (written by Jason Wilbur.) I had it on a tape but no idea of the artist or the actual title. My husband listened to me being excited about that because he's part of the stuff that works.

Not about Guy, but I saw the book ‘Flyboys’ behind you. I just finished it a short while ago. Really good read

That’s fitting cuz Guy Clark was referred to as “the flyboy” in Rodney Crowell’s song “the flyboy and the kid”. Pretty sure it’s a reference to guy’s song “the cape”

Hi Don, just a wonderful well written song from an OG of the Texas Music Scene(although he did a lot of his work in Nashville). He inspired and encouraged so many others. One of those he inspired is Texas Singer/Songwriter William Clark Green, I don't believe you have done a reaction to him. So please let me request William Clark Green "She Likes the Beatles". A song written in the Guy Clark tradition, sweet funny and poignant all at the same time. Anyway great reaction and rating Wonderful selection Scott. May all have a safe fun Weekend.
