Lawrence the band playing their song “Guy I Used To Be” for the first time in front of an audience at the Westscott Theater in Syracuse, NY (11/28/23) #lawrence #familybusiness
Dang! didn't know the entire song was out there yet before release. Big Huey Lewis and the News vibes here but still 100% Lawrence 👍👍 Do this one with Scary Pockets!!
Great NEW track featuring CLYDE!! This piece is fresh and retro at the same time…I heard part of this from the Syracuse show a couple days ago and thought they were covering a song I didn’t know. Glad to know it’s going to be a new original because it’s 🔥 looking forward to lots of new incoming Lawrence fans in 2024!!! BTW, 3:00 nice key change…works everytime!!!
The goosebumps felt watching this live performance. I had goosebumps the first time I heard the clip on tik tok (and fell in love).... but this was unreal. I can't wait to feel that live.
Is anyone else getting "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" vibes from the instrumental in the bridge? It works so well, but it was so interesting to hear something that sounded similar since I'm used to Lawrence's work sounding so unique.
Gracie is a better songwriter and lyricist (and singer). Just be happy your there Richard Carpenter, erm I mean Clyde… Before the hate, i know hes a freat musician and arranger. Still, it’s the Gracie Lawrence Show.
Hot take. Gracie has a wonderful voice, but knowing the history of the band, Clyde has given a lot more to this band and works very hard to create the masterpieces he does, and overall more talented for sure in the songwriter department. Glad you enjoy Gracie though!
Curious how you parse the songwriter when there's four or five names with songwriting credits on every track. 23 has nine people credited as songwriters.
I would argue Clyde is a better songwriter and Gracie is a formulaic pop-song creator. Lawrence was better when Clyde was at the helm - This is a return to that, which is more than welcome.
