Sitting in the comfort of my [then] home in the UK back in 1995, I planned a trip to NZ which included an overnight in Palmerston North. It looked nice in the pictures. When we eventually got there, I went for a walk around the square. It felt right fucking dodgy so I went back to the motel and was in bed for 7:30 ready for Wellington the next day.
I’m headed back to palmy next month and google searched Palmerston North takeaways. I’m more than positive that Palmerston North has the most fish n chip shops per capita in the world.
I haven't been there since 92. There were big trees in the Square back then and the street kids would mob and fight you if you sat down. The salvation army did give out free soup there though.
Never a dull day in Palmy... wait what!!! Forced to wear Green uniforms at St James, PN Intermediate, St Peters College. Where the Lido was the only place buzzing with life. Ongly park was nothing more then a big paddock.
Eh I went a while back and the night life was pretty dead, theres a whole street with clubs next to each other and only one of them had people in it with barely anyone dancing. oh and a friend of my mates got jumped and put in hospital that same night.
Honestly as an outsider I would say that the best thing about Palmerston North is Gengys 😋 I've gone there 3 times the past year and this weekend just for that place. Favourite restaurant & trying to find other things to do that way...🤔
Palmerston North is the most boring place ! I came back after 20 years, nothing had changed at all. The roads were in disrepair, and still are. I never had a wheel ailment until I came here. Now, it can be two in one year. That’s how bad the roads have deteriorated. And it is still the same today. They spend money on bronze statues and leave the roads falling apart. They are great at patching the holes but when I rains the new seal washes away and you have a bigger hole than before. The main town centre is abandoned, people have moved closer to the shopping mall, where all the people are. Unless you attend Massey University, there is nothing else here.
This vid needs an update. Owlcatraz has shut down and is being subdivided. You missed your chance Guy. Not sure what they did with the "prisoners". Probably commuted their life sentences to lethal injections.
