For those wondering how Yang was able to do this in the first place, it’s actually related to the show she came from. Her Semblance (special power powered by Aura, a physical extension of the soul which is represented by the health meter and is also how RWBY characters can take quite a beating before going down in a fight) is called Rage, and it allows her to absorb the force of the hits she takes during a fight. When she activates it (which is what happens when her Aura enters the red zone and her hair and eyes start glowing), she gains a power boost that allows her to deal back twice the amount of force she absorbed to her opponent. As for the sliver of Aura left, that’s not part of the Semblance mechanic, Blitztank’s super just happened to not take her out in one hit.
