Hello there ;) I love to watch the all "how-to" on the channel. One thing I would really want to see it how to use vallejo crackle effect medium without airbrush. I've bought it to have this effect as with GW technicals, but I didn't figure out yet how to used it the most effecient way. I started do wonder should I mix it directly with paint on pallete and apply on varnish to have nice cracks.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 2 года назад
Good call dude, we've done how to use their chipping one, I imagine it's similar, but it's a cool effect, so it's absolutely worth looking at in the future.

@ArtisOpus

Hi Carl, I've seen some people painting blue underneath, and then carefully painting the texture as cracked ice, it seems tricky, but there may be an efficient way to do it!
@EpicFail565
@EpicFail565 4 года назад
I managed to get a neat ice effect by painting white over the texture paint, following it with a glaze of icey blue (baharoth blue for me) and then drybrushing it with white again. You can also add some gloss varnish to finish it. It is very quick and simple but looks nice.

@ArtisOpus is there any chance you can tell me wich kind of cork are you using? I mean, fine grained or coarsed grained? Thanks.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 8 месяцев назад
Doesn't matter buddy, the only thing that matters is whether there's a sealant on it, in which case stick it that side *down*.Fine grained is easier to rip specifically, but coarse gives less control which can look more natural on edges

Do you let the pva glue dry before putting the texture paint down ?
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 2 года назад
Yes :)
@inzulmadaco561
@inzulmadaco561 4 года назад
Do you just glue the miniature onto the texture paint? Does it hold well enough or do they fall off pretty easily? Also if you wouldn't mind, what type of glue do you use? Plastic, Super?
@krishee92
@krishee92 4 года назад
Inzul Madaco It holds very well, even more than super glue imo
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 4 года назад
It's also extremely easy to 'pin' your models through cork, using a small hand drill, and a piece of paper clip, it is one of the nicest things about cork! A dab of superglue on each end and you're good :)

Just asking, my paint says 'technical' instead of 'texture'. I've used it on some Kastelan Robo bases and a little bit cracked cuz I applied a lot of it. Are the Tex and Tech paints the same thing? Or can they be used as the same thing?

You don't prime your cork before adding the texture paint?
@ArtisOpus

Hey dude, nope, it's going to get hit with the matt-varnish for protection after anyway, which does all of the protecting and priming needed :)
@canton7180
@canton7180 3 года назад
you do not have to wait for it to dry naturally, I use a hair dryer on medium setting and it's done within a minute or 2
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 3 года назад
Of course! Although speeding up the process does actually slightly alter the final effect, did you know? Not in a bad way or anything, I think it changes the average size of them bits
@canton7180
@canton7180 3 года назад
@@ArtisOpus I’ve tried both ways, there does not seem to be a difference of the outcome, mainly application per thickness or how much you build it up, thicker usually nets larger and deeper divides and of course less individual division or cracks, pva also influences, be it wet or cured

just a minor technical issue, when you talk to the audience (us) you need to look directly at your video camera, it appears in this video that you are looking slightly up and to the right (your right, our left) ... this loses "eye contact" with your audience and a little disconcerting ... otherwise great information provided, thank you

Thanks dude, the display is very hard to ignore, working on it though, it's much easier when not shooting alone (lockdown life), but I have to make sure I'm in frame! Hopefully I won't have my unsettling off-centre gaze in the future.

How is this a fast way to do your bases? Its anything but fast hahaha. It took 60+ minutes for the technical paint to drie and you had to wash ut twice thats an extra 30 minutes. This is a 90 minute base at the very minimum.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 4 года назад
Working time is fast, if you're working on a batch of 30 or so the time per base is minima. If I do stuff like this I tend to make the base and then just get on with my life/do other hobby, and come back to it... rather than sitting there watching it drying 🤣
@MurderHoboRPG
