GW2 Tackles AFK Farming & PvP Changes - GW2 News July 16thth 2024 

To clarify, the Bonfire Boost previously didn't let you use the same type of bonfire if you had the boost active. So if you had 16 minute left, it wouldn't override/refresh the boost and you'd just get an "Already have the boost" message and the Bonfire would die before you could use it again. Now you can extend it, which is great!

varietal seeds are the ones you have to plant each day. cultivated are the results - so much more expensive. so it'll help if varietal seeds are cheaper, but not a solution to doing a task every day :-(

You will never be able to get rid of afk farmers unless you make strict guidelines forbidding all forms of multiboxing. People dont get banned because it is hard to prove if someone is actually afk farming or just multiboxing (which is allowed, only being completely afk is banned). The people on octovine and or chak are not afk farmers but normal multiboxers. My impression is a lot of ppl dont know that or what the difference is. It would pain me because i dont think normal multiboxing is hurting the game in any way but i do think afk farming is potentially dangerous for the economy of the game, should one of them ever plan on liquifying their assets.

14:00 maybe I misunderstood you, but that last line about Varietal Seeds does not help you skip the daily grind, because you still need to plant and harvest them to get the Cultivated Seeds, which is the ingredient for Ascended Cooking

I though about many solutions, but from non-programator viewpoint, would be best/easiest to set one rule, for *ALL* players with: "you can't loot another mob, if you didnt move" _(from your previous looting action or with timer in few seconds)_ . Its simple, player that is playing game by normal way almost never will be in situation, when you dont move from one corpse to another for loot. In the theory, you can also set the rule, the AoE autoloot works only, after you perform move.

From my testing the patch has done nothing about afks. I'm not sure exactly what it was supposed to target, but you can still just sit there with a rev using Embrace the Darkness or a necro autocasting a weapon ability and not get kicked. Not sure what it was supposed to do exactly but I'm not getting kicked after 5 minutes in combat of afk that's for sure.

Regarding the rocks in Ember Bay, these even made the jp Chalice of Tears impossible to complete without help from a mesmer or other portal form a second player.

As an avid Netflix watching semi-afker, I love these changes. Way I see it, getting rid of the actual bots just makes my lazy farming more profitable. Plus, never fun competing against bots / people actively violating the rules when you are playing by them.

I'm confused about this afk change. If I go to the bathroom for 5 minutes and then come back and enter combat I will get kicked to the character screen as soon as I entered combat? That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense

They fixed the coins for Aurora, but I would’ve liked if they fixed the same for the gold coins in sw. My alt account needed some mastery points and I had to glitch through the map to get it. My other alt accounts don’t even have the skyscale to do this.

I don't think this change to AFK is aimed at doing something against bots. It's aimed at saving you from reports and bans if you're legit afk. How many times have I stepped away for what I think is a simple task only for it to metamorphose into some hydra of a task and come back 40 minutes later? This should save any legit player from bans by kicking you out before you have a chance to break the terms.

Finally, bonfire QoL improvements have been a long time coming. Now ANet only need to make bonfires deployable in WvW.

I just did the token 19 with the bug using the skimmer. Glad they fixed that lol.

Not trying to be a rain cloud, but that rock-block should have been fixed and addressed much sooner than months after the fact. It was months, right?

The only AFK farmer this is going to affect is demon stance revenants.

They actually make a lot more moeny than let on, there is a guy who did some tests and all and you can make decent gold per hour at the right spot. Good to see that will be reduced.

My Necro (almost always Harbinger) needs that outfit.

the 5 min afk farming thing, the reading of it sounds like you wont get kicked if afking as long as you dont enter combat while afking - so pvp/wvw/pve folks afking at hub wont get kicked because you wont be kicked into combat. at least this is my understanding of it. (also I think it did say it's only for open world maps) the one concern someone made thats legit is that i might be waiting for, say, tarir and i afk while using toilet or whatever - and random mobs pop up and taps me (this happens a lot at tarir, id be in a chair while i went to make a drink, and come back to my chara out of chair and in combat) - those can kick me off the meta map. that said i guess i can just afk on skyscale so mobs dont hit me? can you turret still while on a skyscale? this would be the only thing to watch out for i guess. i feel like just them banning afk farmers make no sense - ppl will just make another acct and keep farming anyway. and ppl have been screaming at them to do something about the afk farmers. anet's goal is peobably to make afk farming so unprofitable/pain in the ass that ppl dont bother- for example with the gem to gold conversion and new accts having several days of map chat restrictions makes gold selling nonexistent. it can be done, theyll just have to find a clever way about to make the afk farmers give up lol

@MuklukRU-vid i recently played Soulbeast and noticed there's a bug with the Short Bow skill 2 (Poison Volley) that when used it causes a stutter.

I hope they disconnect people that die and AFK on metas instead of respawning and coming back to fight

also: undocumented change (because it´s a bug^^): many WvW-related items from the WvW-vendors (e.g. exotic triumphant hero's armor, exotic mistforged hero's weapons, ascended mist trinkets, WvW-infusions and basicalyl everything in the miscellaneous category) had their memory of battle-cost removed. Roy has already confirmed that this is NOT intentional, but at this time, it hasn´t been hotfixed yet

The AFK boot after 5 mins is more detrimental to casual gamers than the farmers. Gotta go AFK for just a bit? Better hope you weren't in the middle of something important. Doing some relaxing fishing? Best make sure you move. Farmers will just add a macro to move their character slightly.

Finally they do something about these pesky afk-plagiarism. I hope it's not gonna interfere with normal gameplay but I doubt it will.

@2:10 im pretty sure they stated you CANNOT watch tv and stuff on another screen, an example from an arenanet employee him self stated "even I cant do computer work on the game while playing because it would go against the rules of the TOS." They literally do not want you focused on another screen when playing the game. Stuff being up, sure, but focused on it, no.

Could it be possible to have a macro on a timer that presses W or S at a 5 minute interval? That would negate the AFK farming solution, and we'll be back at square one.

The most reliable way to combat AFK farming is to let players initiate duel with other players. Failing to respond to a duel automatically opts you in. You can only ask for 1 duel per hour (to combat spam). They could even only hand this feature out to players with accounts in good standing. (such as high event participation and regular logins).

Thankfully, a random crazy mesmer had already found a backdoor to those 2 tokens, and helped me get them. But to anyone else who wasn't so fortunate when they were trying to get those, your pain is now ever. For now.

PvP rush is cool and all but PvP changes are so meh. New maps? New game modes? Better balance? Better matchmaking? Where are the real changes to revive the game mode? I also think AFK farming isn't being tackled at all. They're tackling people who occasionally go AFK in pvp or wvw, but go anywhere in pve and you'll see tons of these farmers. I came across a huge zerg of them underwater in bloodtide today. I should also be allowed to claim all my wvw rewards and pips before leaving wvw instead of having to run into a wall for 5 minutes.

It’s whatever , I don’t think it will effect any of the afk farmers . Seems like it’s just going to boot real players that had to step away back to menu. Which doesn’t bother me unless I was trying to do a quest. Which kind of sucks because I was just accused other day I had to step away to change a messy diaper

Th pvp tournament change is bad. You never deduct content you only add.what about those ppl who only have free time off peak times or play from a different part of the world on eu servers or vice versa. Rest seems fine.

ugh they have no idea what pvpers want, instead of giving a small minority of the playerbase that most people suspect of wintrading except maybe a few of them how about enticing new players and regular pvpers? noooooo that would make too much sense. instead of speaking down to players from their lofty heights how aobut actually talking to people to find out what the people who want to do it would like? obivously bad ideas exist but that doesnt mean good ideas cant be brought up by players. i will never forgive them for the pvp overhaul, it slowed things down, lowered skill req for higher levels of gameplay. look at the state of ranked, the mmr it takes to reach 250 and tell me they have not neglected and just brought ruin upon ruin on spvp. they dont know what we want, they dont care what we want only what they want. their lofty heights shine so bright they cant see anything.

well, I'm sorry me making 8.5 gold during my 4 hour sleep has ruined your ability to enjoy the game.

If I am understanding this, I personally feel 5mins is too low, sometimes my hands hurt, so i will stay still while fighting and try and let my mech do most the work, If a Fight takes me longer than 5mins, I am now going to get booted?

Only thing the 5 minute timer will accomplish is kick legit players if they go piss while waiting for a meta lmao, what are they thinking? I dont even have to be botting to know everyone with half a brain would use some autohotkey macro while doing it 🤦‍♂️
