Duncan and Gwen are a better couple than Duncan and Courtney for the sole reason that Gwen wasn't a controlling abuser. As someone who has helped people with relationships similar to Duncan and Courtney, I can say from experience that Duncan would've been miserable if he stayed with her, especially with Courtney's refusal to change herself at large while trying to force Duncan to be "perfect". Gwen allowing him to be himself is what a reasonable partner is supposed to do, and the fact that they've had friendly chemistry since season 1 instead of starting as enemies gives them a leg up as well. And like a normal person, I ignore the existence of All-Stars because he got derailed so hard there.

Gwen and Duncan had way more chemistry and their relationship itself wasn’t near as toxic as Duncan’s relationship with Courtney. They had a great friendship in seasons 1 & 2 so they were developed, the issue with Gwuncan was not them dating but HOW they got together. Duncan was wrong fro cheating, but the writers were right in ending Duncney. Courtney was such a horrible girlfriend especially in season 2. She was bossy, physically and verbally abusive, aggressive, controlling (she wrote a whole paper on how Duncan should change himself…a big red flag but y’all drool over them for some reason) and overall manipulative. Duncney was only a healthy couple in season 1, whereas Gwuncan had better understanding of each other and they were much healthier (aside from Duncan cheating; I’m talking about the relationship as a whole). The main issue was that the writers ruined Duncan by making him cheat, which is turn derailed Gwen and Courtney. If Courtney and Duncan broke up on normal terms and THEN Duncan got with Gwen then it would have been amazing!! You guys just hate on them because Courtney says “jump” and the fandom asks “how high”. She was genuinely a horrible person in TDA and wasn’t much better in TDWT. Her only good season in terms of her being a kindhearted yet driven girl was in TDI, because we all know how derailed she got in TDAS. And also Trent wasn’t a good boyfriend either at the end. He was overly jealous, insecure and unstable with his emotions and coping mechanisms. He would have bitter remarks towards Gwen and Duncan which wasn’t exactly earning brownie points. I wished the writers handled this in a much better way than they did, because as seen in this video Gwen and Duncan had so much potential and chemistry

Now Duncney and Gwuncan were both poorly handled, but when push comes to shove I definitely prefer Gwuncan. Gwen doesn't try to control or change Duncan, meanwhile most of the time Courtney and Duncan were together Courtney was always getting on him about him being...him. That relationship was pretty toxic, but Gwuncan is also toxic as it was a result of cheating while Duncney was toxic because of it's on-again-off-again nature and Courtney's controlling behavior.

I don't care how mad the Courtney x Duncan shippers are about Gwencan, you cannot pretend like they didn't have chemistry. Gwen understands Duncan and accepts his bad boy personality. She never tried to change him. Courtney tried too hard to mold Duncan into the perfect boyfriend and was too damn controlling and abusive. While I don't agree with Duncan cheating on Courtney, I do know that he was much happier with Gwen.

But Duncan and Gwen have similar interests, get along, can be competitive without taking it personally, and like each other as they are, without wanting to change huge aspects of the others personality. That's more than I can say for both Courney and Duncan, AND Gwen and Trent together. The other two were relationships of convenience and surface level attraction, nothing more. Gwen and Duncan actually like each other. It was just shitty that the writers didn't want it, and thus it turned out the way it did.

I don't hate them being together, they are actually great friends. However, I don't think hooking anyone up will resolve anything, and that putting them back with either each other, Trent, or even Courtney will not move the story forward. With Gwuncan as a couple, the execution was terrible and people just complain that he is a bad boyfriend because he's not as nice as Trent, and that he had "feelings" for Courtney in All-Stars. I thought it was that he actually wanted to bother Courtney again, since he was bullying her after all that happened in Action, trying to control him, and kicking him in the balls. People will argue that Courtney will try to change him for the better, but Courtney's demands were more for herself than to change him as a person, making the list seem more shallow. He was meaner to Courtney yes, but after having a control-freak girlfriend who got his girlfriend voted off, you can see through his perspective. Was it OOC? Not so much during world tour but yes during Total Drama All-Stars. I did not like Gwen during Season 5, she was very ignorant and cruel towards Duncan, and people think that she is innocent but really she just plays the victim card and end up not taking responsibility for her actions. With Gwen, she wanted Courtney to stop ignoring her but she kept on doing it to Duncan because in her opinion it would distract her. Duncan did care for Gwen, he started asking about Courtney twice, and she broke up with him for that reason which is ironically hypocritical since she was more obsessed with getting Courtney's attention. This is a common thing with Gwen, she lacks commitment in serious relationships. An example of this is with Trent, she gave back to him 50% of the time, and was mad at him a majority of the time because she did not trust him for leaving her in dirt and due to Heather's kiss. None of that was his fault, and in Action, Gwen was thinking that Trent was becoming obsessed with her (NOT DUNCAN'S FAULT SO PEOPLE SHUT THE F*CK UP AND STOP BLAMING HIM), and Duncan and Harold gave her their opinion to help her (which really didn't). Instead of talking to Trent, she just chooses to not talk to him then break up. Trent did mess up since he misinterpreted Owen's words as to throw challenges, and did not trust Gwen at all to make choices for herself. So hooking them up will not help their characters redeem Trent or anyone else for that matter. Now moving onto Duncney. Duncan was an interesting character. He was a bad boy, a flirt, a jerk, and a strong competitor, my overall favorite. He has issues considering feelings since he takes the game pretty seriously when it comes to the show, and communication issues. Sure he bullied Harold, but then again Geoff and DJ were not even under his influence and that they just chose to do it. With Duncan, he is honestly overhated to an extent (same for Owen, Courtney), since people hate how he was never a nice guy, a jerk to Harold, won the second season, accidentally caused a wedge between Gwent, and cheated on Courtney. That's the point of his character, he's a bad boy, but he never stoops as low as Heather or Alejandro or even Courtney for that matter. He's more towards the protagonists side because he does not approve of their actions. I get the bullying Harold part was wrong, but then again having a guy who leaves crusty underwear on the floor, keeps trying to show off their skills by talking about it and being annoying to everyone else, is pretty annoying. However, Duncan does have some respect for Harold, in a jerky-way. He taught Harold how to fight, and worked with him during the end of the war challenge. With him getting to the merge, Courtney was the reason he was mainly targeted so that way they can weaken her. Sure he is not as strong in the merge as he was during the 1st half, but consider how Leshawna's story was done, nobody really liked Justin when he left, and etc. If you think he got plot armor for that season, then you guys have forgotten that Lindsay could have been eliminated in an earlier episode, but since DJ quit she stayed and developed. Let's also not forget that both Alejandro and Heather had some plot armor during World Tour (and Island for Heather). While I get both characters are strong contestants, Heather could have left during the premerge without his return, and Alejandro could have left if Sierra did not accidentally blow up the plane. For breaking up Gwent, he never once actually tried to break them up on purpose, he was caught in a misunderstanding. He only gave Gwen his opinion on what he thought was going on with Trent, but she chose not to talk to Trent and instead listened to Duncan. Duncan never manipulated Gwen, he never even lied to her, and did not even try to change her. Ok this is the one thing I think that could have been written better, the cheating incident in World Tour. For someone who is supposed to be straight with people, he kissed his friend behind his girlfriend's back and voted her off. But then again, when was he ever supposed to be the nicest guy? Also, you can see through his perspective that he was sick of the abuse and stress Courtney was giving to him. Since after Courtney's elimination in Island, she was getting worse as a person as they grew more comfortable to each other. It brought out the worse in both of them, and it is definitely not right to hook them back up after Season 3 and 5. Now Courtney, I am kind of mixed on her character. She was a good character without Duncan involved or even Gwen. She is inconsistently written which sucks, but you can see through her perspective though. She is a demanding character, who wants things to go her way, has a superiority complex, who boasts her CIT status, and would wear the pants in any relationship. She was always bossy and kind of hypocritical during her run in Island. However, she left Duncan for the million, nearly killed Owen, DJ, Tyler, and Cody, bribed everyone's lives for the million, unleashed her anger on all of her team, threw challenges, and betrayed her new boyfriend and best friend in the end. I think she does deserve a huge amount of redemption and to make the finale. However, I think 2nd place would be a better placement for her since she needs to learn to accept that money is not everything and that friends and family are more important than anything.

Petition for the writers to make a gwuncan series where they change the cheating breakup with Courtney and instead just make that relationship end with Duncan confessing to Courtney that he doesn’t like her anymore.

My favorite TD ship! They had so much potential, and really could've been a beautiful couple! I really hate how they got together, and everything that went down in All Stars. Otherwise, I loved their chemistry. Gwen didn't try to change Duncan like Courtney did. She embraced him for who he was, as he did her. They actually seemed to have gotten to know each other way before they developed feelings, like that one clip of Duncan naming off things he knew about Gwen. Meanwhile, he didn't even know Courtney's favorite color. I know some people think Duncan was manipulating Gwen, but that couldn't be far from the truth. These two had a really nice bond that unfortunately got ruined. I like to imagine that after the show, they were able to make things right with each other by either staying friends, or getting back together.
