How do you come down from the high of an Olympic Gold Medal and the most dominant triathlon season of all time? That's a question Gwen Jorgensen is trying to answer now that Rio is in her rearview mirror, but expecting her first child is a good start. We caught up with her at her new home base in Portland, Oregon to see how she's adapting to life as a mom-to-be, to get a glimpse of her day-to-day, and to hear what the future holds for her racing career.

Great for her and her family. Unfortunately great for her competition that she's removed from top form and they will all catch up.

Joshua KAZ Fields She actually posted somewhere that she is now running even more than she did when she was racing. When she comes back to the pro circuit, she will most likely just land right at the top of the field.

Nice vid. She said she "tries to be safe" While riding? So by riding a black bike with black kit and no light or hiviz she considered that safe?!? lol typical racer. But she has her guy riding on her left (also with no hiviz or lights) to act as sort of a talisman and ward off evil car spirits?!? I guess it's ok if daddy gets hit by a car? Come on specialized. I know, I know, being a safety nerd isn't cool, but neither is getting run over.

You don't really understand cycling safety at all, do you?
@alwaysbeshooting8841

John Trussell 3rd why don't you explain it to me big shot.
@alwaysbeshooting8841

John Trussell 3rd I can see you're triggered, so I'll explain to you. As a cyclist a motorcyclist and as a CDL truck driver I see the road much differently than the average driver or cyclist. To simply be aggravated that there are lots of motor vehicles on the road when we cyclists are diligently trying to pedal our carbon fiber machines and clearly have the moral high ground is not the right philosophy to have, (if you're interested in saving your own neck anyways). The fact is that most motorists aside from being distracted by phone, radio, food/drink, passengers, other cars and hazards,...when they FINALY do look at the road they only look 30-75 feet in front of their bumper. So, therefore as a bike rider on the shoulder you CAN NOT afford to blend in with the road, its surroundings and shadows. Do what you want. Black race bikes look tough as nails. That is until they're involved in a collision. Give yourself THE BEST chance of being seen. Don't rely on a motorists casual glances for your safety.

I agree. the all black kit doesn't help. sure picking out the right roads to ride on is the start, but making sure people can see you is always a good idea on any road
