Todays video features a visit to the Churnet Valley Railway, for their winter steam gala. The highlight of the gala is always the trip up the steeply graded Cauldon branch to Ipstones. The branch is only used on a few occasions throughout the year, so its always worth the visit to see the engines working hard up the majority 1/45 & 1/59 gradient.
The engines on show were, Great Western 56XX no. 5619 (making her final public appearances on the CVR), The Collet Class 5 was also given an unassisted run to Ipstones, while doing a Re-creation of the Swansea Railway Circle "Rambling 56" Railtour run in 1965.
The gala would also see the return of the United States of America Transportation Corps S160 no. 6046, returning fresh after long repairs at Tyseley. The Polish TKh no. 2944 "Hotspur" also makes a brief appearance on the first train of the day out of Froghall.
Good to see the event well attended and a good show put on by the CVR. I hope you enjoy the video.
