QMB139 = 50cc air cooled 39mm piston (made in China) 52mm is the max big bore kit size
QMI152 = 125cc air cooled 52mm piston (made in China with 54MM stud spacing or made in Taiwan 57mm stud spacing) 64mm max case bore size (A motor) 70mm max case bore size (B motor)
QMJ157 = 150cc air cooled 57mm piston size (made in China with 54MM stud spacing or made in Taiwan 57mm stud spacing) 64mm max case bore size (A motor) 70mm max case bore size (B motor)

One search, “how to know if I have a GY6?” And BAM!?! SOOOOO much info packed into a 5min video!! I JUST picked up a Chinese Back/half, I knew little to nothing... just knew I wanted faster! (Who doesn’t?! lol) I’m a Fabricator/Creator/builder, so making the 139QMB fit on an old school Spree frame is going to be a snap, but for what little I have invested ($150 for a turnkey Spree-learned it needs a stator I can’t get new, and the gamble on a used one for $100 just not worth it when 4/st parts are SO cheap! Plus the running/complete GY6 QMB back/half) I’m that guy that has to squeeze unrealistic numbers from a seemingly “timid” looking 80’s Honda Spree.... In short, I can’t Thank you enough for answering every question I had and saving me hours of searching!!

I mean, you didn’t make your wife cry, crash your car from being an idiot, post a video of someone falling down, or even attempt to dive into a completely frozen swimming pool, so, good on you! lol I am a little stuck when it comes to a big bore kit though.... I see there are several kits to pick from, and I’ve only been able to find one that’ll take me straight to the Max @ 52mm, however, I see most of these kits come with a disassembled head, but not sure if they come with the bigger valves and just aren’t showing it.... SO, Could I get your recommendation(s) on the BBK, cam, carb, Variator kit, valves, etc? Even if the parts are from several different sellers, I’m fine with that too, there’s just so many to pick from, I’d hate to buy parts I don’t need or don’t work together if I can help it.... Like I mentioned, I’m a builder, so putting it together and understanding what a “+/-“ tolerance is, no sweat.... I’m just looking for the biggest bang for the buck.... I’d really appreciate any guidance you’d be willing to offer!

Hey bro!! I bought my ruckus from a guy on Facebook and I’m the pics the bike was sweet!! But when I got there his hands were covered in grease and a lot of the parts in the pic weren’t there! But for the price I was paying I got a beautiful 171cc big bore gy6 150 cc bike which I am a little leery about because upon watching your video I put it on pause and went outside and the number your talking about was grinded off the bike!! So I called my buddy and told him to come by tomorrow so we can rip this bike apart and check it! So now because I know the stud spacing I will know exactly what I’m looking at!! Thank you brother!! I have been wanting to build myself a fun get around custom project for a while now. My 50cc 2 stroke skateboard is fun but not practical for distance.Now i have a gy6 50cc ugly funky scooter and im going to rip it apart and use the power plant (motor & CVT transmission) and front disc brake set up and modify a beach cruiser bicycle to fit the GY^ engine with all the goodies like water cooled 100cc big bore kit, stroker counterweighted crank, ported and polished cyl. head, turbo kit lower gearing and add all this to 26 inch heavy duty spoked bicycle wheels for an over all top speed around 70 mph! I will be fit to really get around easily during 5pm traffic jams!

I have a Short Case because I have 10 inch wheels but it's a P model. You didn't talk about the P models but I think you should have because the P models have more performance than the stock non P models. This is Great if you compare stock to stock But the Non P models can handle a larger big bore kit. Here is what NYC says about them: "If you have a letter “P” after example “1P”, stands for (P)air valve horizontal engine. The P series engine has a taller cylinder head and a shallow recess cam seating that gives it slightly more performance than non-P GY6’s engine code. However, if both cylinder and cylinder head is swap out it will be identical to the non-P GY6 139QMB engine. So, parts are interchangeable as long as both are replaced cylinder and cylinder head from 1P and non-P. But why? Because their so many upgrades available for non-P type engines include performance camshaft, etc." - So I Won't be able to install a larger Camshaft BUT there are still Plenty of other mods I could do!

I have GY6 with KMZ157QMJ and 124cm3 on the block. The 124cm3 is part of the casting and the other is stamped into the case. FYI

What if you have a 150cc but the engine stamped it as a qmb139 for registration purposes from factory 😂. I guess pull the head and measure studs is my only option?

Thank you. Nice,clear explanation regarding long/short case and A/B stud spacing. What I can't find info on is the difference between engines that have the swing arm lugs on the bottom of the cases (single shock applications?) and engines that have the swing arm lugs on the top of the crankcases (twin shock applications?). I have a SYM Orbit 125 which pivots at bottom (and only has a single shock) and a SYM VS150 that pivots at the top (and has twin shocks). The end of the cases where the shocks mount are also different. What gives?

Great videos and valuable information Rolling Wrench! Thank you. I have a 2016 Sym HD 200 (171cc) with 19k miles. Runs like new just as the day I bought it and it still looks like it's right out of the showroom, etc. I do all my own routine maintenance, oil changes every 500 miles, all other fluid change-outs on time, valve lash exams, etc.,etc. Question: Seems to me this GY6 motor is going to continue to serve me well for many more years and miles to come although in your experience about how many more thousands of miles can I expect? I have a 150 cc four valve SYM (VS150) with 62000 kilometers.Oil changes always at 1500 kilometers and my riding styile is VERY abusive, always passenger and very heavy traffic. Pulls as new and my research leads me to spect 100000 kilometers before deep maintenance.

Sweet! Thanks so much for that information. So, for future reference, one can slip on an MLM pipe, a rejet , cone shaped/mesh screen air filter, a well tuned variator, and reveno clutch along with a yellow contra spring. Would all that allow for an urban express reach 48-50 MPH? Thanks

Ok knowledgeable people. When i start my 250cc gy6 engine in my Buggy, at first it cuts out a couple of times, or if i touch the gas pedal it cuts out. It runs fine once its warmed up. But literally everytime i start it, ive got to wait 10mins. Ive replaced the auto choke, no difference. TIA

So I have a gy6 150cc in a go kart, a kandi. I just bought another go kart, I'm probably a hoarder, and the engine is a liquid cooled 250cc.the engine. Is in a box... Some assembly required. My question is if the 250cc engine is considered a gy6 as well? I need to. Get some missing parts and know what I have will help.

Im looking for info on PGO scooters, specifically a 2013 PGO metro 125cc. They're made in Taiwan and imported into the US under the name Buddy. This particular one was originally from Guam and the owner shipped it home to the US with him (I have the original Guam Title and paperwork). There's no engine code above the serial, just a PGO brand stamp. Im in the process of teardown / autopsy and putting together a parts list and need to know what engine code to use when searching for parts. A local shop in Guam did a poor job of installing a big bore kit and despite the motor being low mileage and well maintained, there's carnage. It had an NCY head and cylinder and piston was stamped with 58.5.

There are more many versions of the GY6 engine. The A and B might have the emissions piping in the front but most of the others don't. Remember the date of this video is now 3+ years old. Good stuff in this video. But it is now dated.

I have, what I believe to be, a GY6. However the plate with the numbers has only a "1P57F" and a serial "16120364". Can you tell from the F what engine it is. It does have two oil cooler ports on the crankcase.

You said nothing about the P which some P motors have taller heads...idk if all do or not. You said nothing about the actual GY6B which uses totally different crank and cvt parts than the taiwan B-block.

Mine says XS1P52QMI-3B and I'm having a hard time finding final drives and other parts that actually fit. It's supposed to be a Sym Fiddle 125, but the 125cc parts don't fit at all.

I would go with the 52mm big bore kit and carb upgrade ive installed the 52mm kit many times and they work great just be sure to get the big valve head with the kit never use the stock head it will have way to much compression and will not last very long and for more topend speed upgrade the final drive gears

I just wanted to find out if I would need to cut my stock B case to fit the 180cc taida cylinder 63mm . or will it be a direct bolt on?.. Do you have any where we can communicate? i'm doing same thing.. mine is a chinese engine.. there are kits until max 200 with no need to bore crankcase.. i found a video here in youtube... p.s a crankase boringg tool is always good to have... other friends will need to do the job.. you can ask some spare cash for it..

I have a 139QMB that was upgraded, but i think i want to just jump up to a 150 cc gy6. its a short case, will a larger 157QMJ fit? like are the mounting holes in the same locations and dimensions? I know the CVT needs to be the short variant, but are all the other dimensions "stock" and the same across all similar models?

nope, they're not the same. The max you can upgrade with that engine is 100cc. There's a 105cc from SYM Motors If you can find one from taiwan.

Ok, a few things match here. I have a XS1P37QMA-2A. It's a SYM/Peugeot engine. its OK on the bore size, 37mm, but acording to most common knolege the MA size doesnt even show on charts, but has 50cc displacement due to its 47mm stroke. If it is a 50cc it should be an MB, so there are things to consider wend buying a big bore like the height of the cilinder. Also this engine is an "hammer head" instead of the comon ones with a full cover, so how compatible is it with upfrade kits?

I just rebuilt a gy6 atv and sold it to kids. I watched them beat the fucking shit out of it. After seeing the abuse that motor took brought me here to learn more

Hello, Thank you for the informative video ........NOW to see how good you are..Ha! Ha! I have a motorized kayak ( Surfango) I think it is a GY6 but water cooled. The only marking I can find are P157...so one piston and 57mm if I am correct from your information. I think it is a 150cc engine. I am looking for parts but some of the GY6 parts do and don't fit. Would you have any idea of the model it uses? Thanks if you can help.
