I really want to learn romany as my great grandmother was one, we through circumstance became disconnected from our roots. We only found out a few years back. it was kept secret as my great grandfather was not romany - hence the disconnect, he was Protestant and she was told by her mother to drop dead at the altar. Which is odd as she herself had ran away from an arranged marriage! Anyway that's why the so called family cut her off. Because of this stupidity we lost out on our heritage. Now at 35 it's really hard to learn a new language, but I'm trying. The Lord's Prayer is very hard I have it written down, and even following that it's difficult. Cameron Reekie Romany people from that generation can be weird about other races, especially letting gawjas into their culture. My non-romany grandmother was mistrusted by his family for years. They called her the white louse. And don't get him started on black people or any other minorities before he's a flaming racist especially for a non-white person.

I’m Romanian and I think is actually comes from Romanian because in Romanian world is lumea and in romani is lumia,also the word for sword is the same and apparently a lot of others
Tomaco Tabasco the problem with the gipsy language is that it borrows words and syntax from the country in which they reside so some of the original words are lost the fact that you use words from romanian and add the letter o or i to it does not make it a romani word just like adding the termination sarel to a borrowed word does not make it a proper verb. Serbian rroma will not understand greek rroma unless they all are traditional.
What language is he speaking? There is no language called "gypsy". Each of these languages are from different regions where there are gypsies and there is no single gypsy language from what i understand. For example, my grandmother's parents were from Armenia. She spoke Armenian... or so she thought. When I played for her Armenian, she did not understand it. When I played her Turkish... she also did not understand it. So.... maybe she spoke a language called Lomavren... or Bosha. The Armenian gypsy language. I'd love to figure it out. A phrase she said was "amen pan lav galaa". It means "everythiing will be ok" (alright). Does this sound similar in his language?? thank you!
