This is a wonderful song, and I've loved it from the from the first time I heard it in 1970. Let's not discount the video of stills that was put together for this presentation. It is equally captivating and compliments the lyrics perfectly. Together, they are perfection.
Beautiful, almost mystical song of unrequited love. To me, this is one of those songs where the lyrics, music and vocal meld into something greater than than the parts.
I remember being such an excited young lad when Momma bought me the 45. Many many years ago but I can still hear it and feel the hum of that bass. One of my earliest musical memories.
I remember in my teens being close to the lake with a small fire keeping me warm and would hear this song on my transistor radio and envision this gypsy woman!
Free spirit free and love to be me as the road takes me through my journey of wherever this woman wants to go. My sister and I would dance the dance of the gypsies and drive for miles with our dark hair blowing in the wind. Sweet sister, I miss you. But your now dancing 💃 with the Angels Yep, free spirits.
Found an old 45 of this , cleaned it up and it still sounds great. How someone who recorded ''Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' and also cut this classic, who knows. Also kudos to none other than Del Shannon who produced it. A rarity in that it is actually superior to Curtis Mayfield's original.
This has to be one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen!!! Your friend is a real treasure!!! And done to a song I fell in love with at the tender age of 11 years old. Thank you for making this old girl's evening and bringing back my youth. (spelling)
