During operation, oil is pumped into a connection block, which in turn distributes it to the cylinder block and pistons. This causes the pistons to act against the cam ring, producing a momentum that makes the shaft rotate smoothly.

We actually had a representative here last week from hagglunds in Ohio to look at a problem we had with a machine. He was telling is that if the hydraulic pump were out, it would be a 32 week wait since it was a European part and that the waiting period on parts has went up astronomically since bosch bought them out. Luckily it wasn't the pump but at 100k-150k lost per day, 32 weeks that equates to 20m-30m in lost profits all because Bosch/haggluds wants to keep inventory down and not pay taxes

Quite a few major companies have experimented with hydraulic drive motors for vehicles. Honda motorcycles did quite a bit with this idea. But it lacked efficiency and places maintenance demands that the public might resent. Hydraulic oil in drive systems with reasonable power tend to have the oil cutting a way at the lines and fixtures. It seems that hydraulics are best used in situations where slower movement that is sporadic is called for.

This is a hydraulic motor in the radial piston family (a "cam ring" type, to be exact. There are several concepts in use). Typical caracteristics are high torque, low max rpm and relatively good total efficiency (95-96%, depending on working pressure, oil viscosity etc.). Typical applications include machinery such as paper spools in paper factories, tilting railway cars track drives etc.

This is a similar concept to the Komatsu excavator final drives only in that case the pins/rollers are fixed around the outer and the wave plates gyrate inside on cams driven by a small hydraulic motor. The rollers on this unit appear to be on rockers actuated by hidden hydraulics.

Hagglunds drives are a unique product for machinery that requires low speed but high torque. I have worked on a few machines with these motors and even pulled a couple apart. However if you want spare parts, documentation or just limited information over the phone; forget it!!! Hagglunds/Bosch Rexroth have this product completely sewn up. All major repairs and even minor repairs have to take place at a registered Bosch Rexroth service repair centre. Here in Australia it means sending the damn things all the way up to Queensland on Australia's north eastern coast. So if you are in Perth on the far west coast of Australia it is a 4,340 km or 2,695 mile journey to get there! I guess if you are going to use these things, make sure you look after the oil quality of the hydraulic system as your potential downtime is significant.

@CompanyofHeroes999
@CompanyofHeroes999 4 года назад
For all those who are wondering, this is a hydraulic motor with reversible direction of rotation. Direction of rotation depends on which way you pump hydraulic fluid. The green fluid flow is leakage line that drains the fluid that passed through tight clearances in design and actually lubricates parts. the very first scene shows that you have a hub, not a shaft. So you stick your shaft inside from your working machine, and that triangle is your moment arm that takes on herself reaction moment. It is made of two parts, two links, that lower pin passes through ear-hole attached to the structure or another part of machine that is stationary. Inside, you have pistons radially arranged in the part with the hub, and at the end of pistons there are rollers to reduce friction. As fluid pressure pushes piston, roller presses on the cam, and you get a tangetial force that turns the rotor. Of course, you have to have some kind of plate or similar device that divides the pressurized inlet into right pistons in position to develop torque of right direction. This plate is stationary, connected to the housing because cam is connected to the housing. The holes you see on the rotor on the bottom of the cylinders are both for inlet and outlet. So, when part of the pistons are producing force, others that are not pressurized, are pushed by the cam and liquid goes out. Finally, this is collected in a canal that goes around, and goes on the outlet hose. The scheme shows everything if you are a little bit familiar with the field. I am a 4th year student and had one semester of hydraulics and pneumatics and understand the design. I guess it's not meant for someone with absolutely no knowledge in the field.

How do i troubleshoot a radial piston motor, mine is a b240 black bruin and it seems like it loses torque when loaded, it stops completely but i still have pressure in the system, because the pump delivers pressure that opens the pressure relief valve. can i check the case drain line or the ports A and B.

@687805
@687805 7 лет назад
jeff browne- the third line seems to be a case drain, though nothing is described here. Is it showing how efficient it is by the small amount of blow by from the case drain? Seems to be many hydraulically driven pistons that rotate the shaft. It would be nice to have some specs or explanation- which of course would be necessary to determine how it works and the efficiency. Seems like to many moving parts to be grandly efficient for a hydraulic motor.

@MrGlorybe
@MrGlorybe 10 лет назад
The device has been around but the intended uses are being challenged. Take a look at a hydraulic lift on a cherry picker. The power of hydraulics is not in question. But the bucket on a cherry picker moves slowly and stays still most of the time. Therefore the oil is only working a bit, part time. But in a car the wheels need power continuously and the power required is substantial. Under those conditions oil tends to get very hot and it actually cuts into metal or most anything inside the system. Frequent, expensive, repairs are required. To make a long story short applications that existed in 1950 are almost identical to today's applications. New applications are rare.
