Hello Everyone! Thanks for watching. This video is a followup to how to configure H100 series Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controllers for automated start, stop and speed control on GRBL based CNC controller boards such as the SainSmart Prover XL 4030 series, and the FoxAlien Vasto Series Hobby CNCs.
I did extensive testing with Jim Desilva from the SainSmart Facebook group, and he determined a better way to achieve the speed control we desire.

Hi Thomas, Following your advice I set up a H100 VFD on my 3030 Prover Max using it's 0 - 5V PWM laser connection for full grbl control. Changing F070 from 0 to 1. However, for some reason I found the spindle speed seemed to fluctuate by a about 200 RPM whilst running, and unlike when in manual control, the fan on the VFD ran continuously. Also, as the spindle was slow to pick up to speed I had to edit my files and insert an M0 (pause) after M3Sxxxxx prior to running the file. I'm sure, these issues could be corrected with further adjustments to the VFD settings, so thought I would report back to see if you had any advise. For the time being, having retained the RPM display, but have since changed the other settings back to manual control.

The variance of around 200RPM I think I pointed out in one of the videos, or at least it was visible. I would attribute that more to maybe a poor or inconsistent PWM signal from the CNC control box. As for the slow start speed, it can be controlled with a setting, but I do not recommend it due to that possibility that it will burn the motor out if set too high. I made a video on how to adjust the delay in the spindle startup using the vectric post processor. It will prevent you from having to edit all of your files to insert the pause by including it in the post processor which automatically places it in all of your files when you save the G-Code. I can control the speed with the grbl commands, but I'm not able to turn on the off/on through grbl. If I set the run command to keyboard and set to 'run', the grbl commands control the speed correctly. I've checked the settings per your other video. I'm using an arduino uno and shield and grbl 1.1h.

@@JayDike Did you connect the ground to X1? What GRBL commands are you sending, and what sender are you using for your CNC? I remember I had to turn it on when I was using G-Sender. Otherwise, the GRBL command for starting is S(your speed in number)M3. Turning off the spindle should be M5. Let me know if that helps.

I had tried connecting the ground to X1. It did work for turning the run function on and off but when off the speed was not quite zero so it was never all the way off. I checked some of the wiring and retried and it seems to work correctly. I'm wondering if perhaps there was a grounding issue. Anyway thanks for the reply. It seems to be working as intended now.

@@JayDike Grounding issue most likely. I had that happen when I had the ground disconnect on the controller side of the laster input. Had 0 speed control at all. I has to trace it out.

Is it fine Run lite is always on? With zero Hz, i have the same but I’m using NO relay to avoid that, also when relay off , the fan in the vfd is off most the time Just worrying if your setup overload the vfd ?

I haven't run into any issues to date, but then again, I also ran with the run light on and adjusted the spindle speed manually to turn it on for more than a year. I also power down everything unless I am actively using the CNC, so as to save on wear and tear. Thanks for watching!
