Can't believe people need to comment on his accent. I didn't have trouble at all understanding everything he said. Didn't even notice the idiosyncrasies. You should try listening to Slavok Zizek deliver a lecture - yet few comment on his accent because it would be petty and pointless. Just be grateful it's in English and not Korean!

Monetary Circuit Theory explains Singapore quite well. In MCT/MMT when the government provides affordable controlled rent housing, universal healthcare and universal education, then the level of private debt is reduced, and in MCT/MMT that means credit money gets a lot more done before there is a debt crisis.

I like his accent, yeah.

I find it hard to believe that there are people interested in economics that don't find it a waste of time to bitch about this guy's dialect. Admit it, it's finally nice to hear an economist without an English accent. If I have to hear about "Call Mox" one more time...

" ..and it is entirely possible for people who are not professional economists to have to sound judgment on economic issues, and sometimes their judgments are even better than professional economists because they may be more grounded in reality and less narrowly focused. I'll go one step further and argue that the willingness on the part of ordinary citizens to challenge professional economists and other experts is a foundation of democracy." Nice one Mr Chang. The most common sense place to begin is to simply define "The economy." It's the means by which we get stuff people need and want to them. The word "economic" implies a form of efficiency. Instead of looking at economics through a limited lens or (as Mr. Change suggests) multiple limited lenses, we should simply seek to understand the most efficient ways of fairly distributing resources. While I don't agree with all its tenants, at least the Resource Based Economy theory is attempting to do this.

More Experts and good speakers are badly needed to explain the Non monetary, resource based economic system being advocated by the Zeitgeist movement and the Venus project.

ha ha ha...he just called taxi owners in SA, gangsters.
@parek991
@parek991 10 лет назад
Because they charge unfair fares. Which makes them sort of gangster like but he is over generalising though, surely not all the taxi owners in SA are charge unfairly.

Chang is referring to the combi (minibus) taxis, the vast majority controlled by rival cartels.

I disagree with him only in the point that there are specialists that are rooted in things whose findings or assertions or papers that can be countered with other papers based on DATA and/or were capable of making pinpoint predictions or good model of the past.

The substitles and transcript are incomprehensible, especially for people whose first language is not English. In order to understand accurate issues, understandable language would be a plus!
@brianryu87

I can understand him just fine. I think he speaks perfect English, perhaps better than those with English as their mother tongue. Maybe if you try to focus on what he's trying to say instead of his accent, you'll understand better.
@goegelwoegel

brianryu87 It's also because I want to copy and save the transcript in Word. The text is unusable.

I find him understandable. BTW what subtitles? I can't see no subtitles. Often I have a problem understanding Orientals, especially the Chinese. I know he's Korean. You just have to tune your ear in to his accent.

William Wilde Found the transcript button. It's not brilliant. It translated "great deals" as "green beans", and It translated "dominant school of economics" as "Dumanis groovy climax".

To most people economics is tabooed just like sex. They can talk about it but only superficially. Its too important, raw and life-impacting to be discussed calmly, honestly and openly. Economics, if it were a science, would be first, most complex and greatest science of all. It would encompass all other sciences.

you're very well-spoken, but please, please please, work on a more neutral english accent. your knowledge gets lost in the translation when you're difficult to listen to.
