I have nearly 3k hours (I’m around 50 hours away) and I rarely use them as I put most of my resources into fleets, defences and tech

I started playing a void dwellers game yesterday and I was operating under the 'you start with three of them in your home system' mindset, and I was not getting what was happening at all except that it seemed stronger than I remembered it? probably even better now that I know more about wtf is going on with them. lololol.

I cant beleive im saying but this is the first update im so agaisnt the changes done, i get the reason y, but this nerfs habs into the ground i could use these to turn dead systems with no resources in them into a productive systems now i cant do that and will have to resort to ringworlds to achieve the same result, but like thats so much more cost now and its so grrr bad, im not looking foward to this update when it eventually comes to console

I like the idea of hivemind with devouring, void, and catalytic. You only need minerals for districts and energy for upkeep. Just go heavy food/alloy/research habs with just enough energy & mineral habs to muddle through.

Nice clear video! Key for me is whether a wide vareity of play styles are possible, it's really annoying to discover things like machine empires have more flexibility in contracts with vassals than Megacorp who are locked in to a steep en/min levy. I just don't see eye to eye with the game direction. I was going to try 3.9.2 out but then saw they are trying to fix vassal spam in 3.9.3 so decided to wait. Not really been happy with the game direction as the fun for me was in the emergent behaviour, not playing Stellaris like a map conquest war game which becomes boring swiftly. There seem to be parts of the game that are nerfed and re-nerfed, while more totally unbalanced gimmicks are added.

Ya I am inclined to agree with you here. If they manage the balance of enabling vassal blocks to occur regularly but not an overwhelming guarantee I think that is where id been happiest.

​@@Ceti_well it was about right in 2.6 where truly weak empires would look for protection. It was stupid that empires would not resist exploitative types, but it was the Overlord changes that made it hard to start federations because the prospective ally would be begging to be a vassal .

At 4:55 : How are more stars better for research if the number of deposits (not the amount) determines the number of districts I get from a habitat on that body?

Habitats seems weak to me but that's maybe because they are slower to get going.

Just updated and started playing again. Didn't read the patch notes that had accumulated. Quite stunned when I was going through my first day VD routine. Quite a slog through a bunch of overly verbose and tangent-ridden garbage to find this gem of a video on the subject. I do be subbin' now. Gotcha in a sub-lock. A sub-mission hold, as it were.

Well its rather new mechanic to game so we all have to learn. I got nearly 3.2k hour playerd, and havent touched Habitats in a few years. So got surpriced when i tried play around it again yesterday haha.

Question: if an asteroid gives 2 types of research (such bodies are rare but they exist), and I build an orbital around it, will it give 3 or 6 research districts?

I’m a console void main, so I realize that it will be a good while to catch up, but how does this update affect my dweller heavy industry playstyle? I try to get the first hab started by 2208, and have a hab going every decade. How does this update affect the start of VD?

Its kind of a mixed bag for VDs but your main bottleneck should be minerals after this update. Also pop growth should be lower. The upside is that expanding wont have such a high price tag with orbitals.

What are the mechanics for building major/minor orbitals around resources such as trade, alloys, food, motes, gasses, and crystals? So far as I have been able to see you get a bonus job for motes, crystals, and gasses without having to build districts. Do you get more of the resources than with just the mining stations? Does the same apply to trade, food, and alloys or do you just get the flat ammount that you otherwise got?

Only rare resource deposits are still collected after building an orbital. All other resources simple supply districts.

@@Ceti_ So if I were to crack open the egg for instance the orbital would yeld agricultural districts? And if a place has a trade, does this give access to a trade district? Or do you just get a flat food or trade production?
