True! I find the scene beautiful and majectic, at the same time with all my love to history (and the one of Austria and the Habsburgs in particular) I couldn`t make it through the film. I like Markovics here (the Herold). He looks absolutely natural in this role.

Zajin13 You’re absolutely correct except for one mistake, the Habsburg Crown Prince is addressed as Imperial Highness and not Imperial Majesty which is the title of which the Emperor is addressed.
The first time he knocks the monk asks him who's there and he tells him all the titles to which the monk responds "We don't know him", the second time time he just says his name and the 3rd time he just says "A poor sinner".
@@alexpapa4992 Die Eidgenossenschaft hat es damals nicht einmal gegeben. Nur weil sie aus einem Gebiet stammen das "heute" zur Schweiz gehört, macht sie das nicht zu Schweizern. Erst in den Schwabenkriegen entstand die Eidgenossenschaft und wurde Unabhängig. Und weißt du von wem? Richtig, von Österreich und den Habsburgern.
@@-Eisenfaust- Moment es gäbe da noch die alte Eidgenossenschaft 1291; jedoch Fakt ist aber dass die Stammburg der Habsburger im Kanton Aargau liegt, ausgerechnet im Kanton Aargau, das ist schon Strafe genug. Und der Aargau liegt einfach in der Schweiz. Zusammen gefasst, die Habsburger sind so richtig poplige Landeier, aus dem Autokanton. :-)
It's the final scene in the movie "Kronprinz Rudolf" (2006), known in English as "The Crown Prince". It was filmed in English, but in the version above it is dubbed into German. It tells the story of the heir to the Austrian throne, Rudolf von Habsburg, who allegedly shot himself in a suicide pact with a woman in 1889, the circumstance of which are still hotly debated today. This entombment scene is probably the best bit in a what is a rather long (180 min) and tedious movie, lol.
This is a movie depiction of the ritual used for deceased members of the Habsburg monarchy, when they were entombed in the Imperial Crypt below the Capuchin Church in Vienna. The last use of this ritual took place in July 2011, with the entombment of Otto von Habsburg. These ritual requests for entrance to the Church symbolically show that however titled, wealthy, or noble one might be in life, in death we are all are sinners at the mercy of the Lord.
And actually, it was probably only carried out twice. For Otto, and his mother Zita. There is no evidence whatsoever that this was done for anyone else. It was just a legend that the people who didn't know/hear what was going on made up.
He is well and since he is not that old, he may very well live for quite a few years :-) In fact, this ritual is mostly a legend, a story. There are no records or documents describing that it had been performed in former centuries. As far as we know, it was first pulled out for former empress of Austria -- Zita Habsburg - in the year 1989. And of course for her son Otto von Habsburg after his death in 2011. The ritual was done to fullfill a wish from the family of Habsburg and as far as we know, those where the only 2 documented occasions when it was done.
Das Ritual ist vergleichsweise "jung". Diese spezielle "Frage-Antwort"-Form mit diesen Worten gab es laut der Familie Habsburg erstmals bei der Bestattung der Kaiserin Zita. Bei der Beisetzung Franz des I. soll es jedoch ein ähnliche Zeremonie gegeben haben. Es gibt aber keinen einzigen Beleg, dass es bei Erzherzog Rudolfs Begräbnis verwendet wurde.

@shandi27:Soso, vor Zita nicht belegt? Komisch, dass dann Kaiser ,Franz Josef I. nach einschlägigen Quellen mit ebendiesem Zeremoniell bestattet wurde. Ob Rudolf, als Nichtregent und Kronprinz, mit diesem Ritus in die Kapuzinerkirche einkehrte, ist allerdings in der Tat fraglich, leider habe ich keine entsprechenden Quellen zur Hand.

ich denke ja. er war der letzte offizielle thronerbe, der die monarchie noch miterlebt hat. abgesehen davon ist in der gruft auch gar kein platz mehr vorhanden. das letzte kapitel der habsburger-dynastie und zugleich ein stück österr. geschichte ging mit ihm endgültig zu ende.

ABER wir haben einen barmherzigen Gott, deshalb sind wir ihm nicht `'gleichgültig' . Ein wichtiger Unterschied, wie ich meine. Bitte nicht als Kritik betrachten :)
