I found this TV at a thrift store along with a video camera, and hacked it into a cool piece of art.

Looks very dystopian/ Blade Runner-esque, love it! If you want a quick 'n' dirty method for injecting the video signal, simply add a capacitor in-series with the video output. That way, you can safely probe around the board without the fear of sending a DC voltage back into your source :)

I'd love to see more clearly how you ended up connecting the DVD player to the pin... I'm trying to connect a raspberry pi to an old sony watchman fd500 in a similar fashion.

Uuuhhhhmmm, I’m telling! You said AH SHIT. Good times. Can’t wait to ask my retired Vietnam veteran neighbor if he knows what a participational electronic sculpture art is? You rolled that off your tongue as if did a 3 hour lecture of such. Great video. I can’t help but wait to hear motorcycle project in our future. That’s art too!

Great video. Glad your getting back to electronics. I think you have inspired me to try some of the copper wire art. Oh on a side note. I sure miss the old intro and outtro. The stop film animation is so cool. Keep up the hacking.

That intro reminded me of that semi-old movie UHF. I've got a tv much like that n it's got a composite imput on the back which is the reason I kept it as a backup after broadcasting went all digital.

Ah, just a camera and a directly connected display... Petty "useless", but kinda fun to play around with it... 😏 And the bare electronic components looks good as well... 👍

I have this same little tv and have been wondering if what you did was possible. I've been using an old RF modulator and running it into the antenna input but the image quality was no where near what you achieved. I am very glad you posted this video! I'll have to get tinkering again!

I found your channel because Applied Science recommended you. I don't know why the RU-vid algorithm never recommends these kinds of channels. Definitely subscribed.

I've also does this to a little portable tv, and yeah ended up right at the chip for signal injection :) I DO remember the day you built the PVC camera mount!

Just wanted to say that this video was exactly what I needed to hack a composite single into my tiny B&W CRT TV, works perfectly. My eventual project goal is to create a retro control panel like those seen at the TVA in the Loki series, and having actual CRT displays is important.

I actually just stubbled across your channel looking for how to do exactly this, with a CRT I found at Goodwill, and, it's actually the one you have here, the project I'm working on is actually a fallout project, and am wondering if you have any advice on how to power this with a modern rechargable battery ie votlage and what I would need to do to wire the battery like if there are any of the shelf boards I could use etc, I really hope I can hear back from you, and great video, it's already helped

Dont worry about that red wire. As far as I know it has never killed a person but red tape has. Back in the old days after adding an audio output for a magnetic tape recorder to a tube radio I tried the same with a tv. apparatus. I wonderd about that humming feeling when touching the chassis. Today sitting on a heavy carpet when repairing a computer is not a good idea but back in those days sitting on a heavy carpet when poking inside a tv with the chassis on the live wire of the 220V AC was a very good idea. That audio output worked but dont ask me what my dad said when he touched the tape recorder.

Do you happen to know if there is a way to convert a push button switch to use an analog selector knobs. Idea to use an modern push tv converted to use original selector knobs in a 1940s tv cabinet. Thank you.

Could you help me identify where the video output is on my crt motherboard? I have an old 1980s monochrome KTV that only has UHF/VHF screw posts so I'd like to add composite video to it and bypass the knobs. Not very worried about the audio as I'll be connecting it to a raspberry pi and installing smaller speakers with it. I could send any photos if that's ok.

I’ve had making some kinodf art piece with a camcorder CRT on my do do list for years. Need to acquire one first but I think it would be cool to do some kind of sci fi / steam punk thing with a one instead of a tiny lcd panel. Could either push composite video through it or do something vector. The best way to get composite video to it is to bypass the tuner chip. I did that with a Sony watchman and made it into a pong game. Here’s the vid of that: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PuiLvJbx7Tk.html
