Hacking German word order (while you are a beginner) 

As a native speaker I think this is actually a good trick. Adding "na ja", "nun" or "nun ja" between awfully long sentences make your German sound more natural.

The German hesitation words are: Na ja. Nun ja. Nja. Also. Hm. Äh. Halt, weil--and for sure even more. After Germans changed the sentence, we start to add stuff like: "Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ... also, meine Großmutter, die kommt halt aus Österreich, ne?" XD

For some germans english is the yoda-speech ^^

Well, this actually works when native speakers speak the language. Once you are a learner you have first to understand the structure to go further and apply this kind of construction. If you are a beginner it will sound nothing natural. I don't think it's a good idea to apply this trick. First of all we have to understand how a laguage works.

Cool idea. I think it's interesting how different languages use different words to show hesitation. Like English uses "um," and German "na ja."

I sometimes use "denn" instead of "weil".

I saw joda yesterday in supermarket. Gives me a "different" look on my language. Greets from germany. 🐔

It makes me think: how does Yoda speak in German?

omg when i took intro to german and began forming sentences my thought was, "why do they speak like yoda?" found it kinda silly but that in itself made learning it a little less daunting and in a way it made it fun to learn it.

I hope you guys like today's video, which features the kind of trick used in the #languagehacking books! I think this gives a good idea of what makes the courses unique, because this is something that will get you speaking quicker. It's a compromise that's more in-depth than general encouragement to "be OK with making mistakes", and is something that native German speakers would actually do, but at the same time is not a feature of German that you will find in other courses and is not something you'd want to say in a formal/academic setting (in a similar way to how you wouldn't write "y'know" in an English exam). If you believe in "fossilization", where you can never really 'unlearn' a less ideal way of speaking, then you'll hate this.But I think that we should have one approach as a beginner and a different approach as an intermediate+ learner. It's OK to tidy things up later, if you are speaking more confidently now. Lack of confidence in German from being intimidated by its grammar held me back from trying to speak it, even though I learned it in school for 5 years. But just saying what I could to get my point across, gave me the confidence to reach a stage where I got so much exposure to the language, that the grammar rules actually started to make sense :) Then I was able to learn more complex rules and actually enjoy them and find them interesting :). Hopefully I won't get purists telling me not to poison the youth of tomorrow with my misleading lessons that ruin them for life or something 😆

Sorry, but this is avoiding to learn proper German and not a language hack! Poor video! Wenn man kein Bock auf die deutsche Wortfolge hat, dann sollte man sich vielleicht eine andere Sprache aussuchen. Wieso liest der Typ den Beispielsatz eigentlich nicht vor, wenn er sich für Sprachtipps im Deutschen berufen fühlt?
