I'm Benny the Irish Polyglot, and I've been a nomadic polyglot for 21 years (since June 2003). I've published multiple books, given TED talks, am a "National Geographic Traveler of the year", and I don't have a base as I move country every few months.
On this channel I make videos to inspire people to travel, and to help recover from difficult times to try to enjoy life again. On my second channel ("Fluent in 3 Months"), I share my language learning projects and tips!
Benito, como irlandés eres de herencia católica. No importa si la prácticas o no, te estoy dedicando Rosarios para tu recuperación física, mental, financiera y espiritual. Saludos. ✝️🙏🏼
Benny you taught me the word Polyglot. You inspired me and gave me so many tips and resources. Since watching you, I became fluent in one language and different levels of fluency in three others. Thanks for the video and for being you 😊
I hate that it is called the potato famine when the Irish were producing enough potatoes to feed themselves despite the blight….. but the English colonizers were taking basically all the potatoes farmed by Irish folks to England.
If we had had a prep lesson like this before for my first French lesson at school 50 years ago I might have bothered to learn French, but I gave up almost immediately.
Wow, that helped. It's good that I learned to understand English, because now I was able to get to Irish. It's a shame it's not needed in my part of the world, but oh well.
Benny, you were a huge inspiration to me when I started learning Spanish 10+ years ago. Glad you are getting in the game again as you have a lot to share with the world!
So when you go through security scanner your going to show up with objects in the X-ray machine and need security to check your jacket n take items out infront of people.
Bem vindo de volta! Desejo que seu retorno seja com saúde física e mental, paz e fé para prosseguir! Obrigada pelos conselhos nesse vídeo! 👏🏼 Minas Gerais te aguarda de braços abertos! Abraço, Benny
I'm glad to hear you are getting better! No one will ever really be 100% of anything. You can get close but other factors will always intervene. Change is a constant. Even on a merry-go-round the scenery changes.
Fun analogy! A merry-go-round is cyclical, but at times life can have repeated stages too! Relaunching my RU-vid channel is a part of my acceptance that things can never be perfect. I was starting to realise that I'll regret it so much if I wait even more time before I feel "completely ready" to make content again, and miss out on a chance to share what I have to say with the world. In a few years, RU-vid may be unrecognisable, or all the subscribers I built up wouldn't see my videos etc. So, it's better to jump in now that I'm in the "good enough" stage!
Hey benny, good to see a vid from you again. Im actually originally from your twitch channel and miss playing map game with you and chat! Hope things continue to get big and beyond until we cross paths again
My favourite Canadian viewer! For sure I remember! I haven't been on Twitch in ages, but if my Internet is stable in a few places these next months, I may well pop back in. The bad news is that I'm way behind on all the developments in Geoguessr (new countries added, new metas etc.), but the good news is that since I wrapped up my Korean learning project in September, I've actually been studying general geography (capitals, region names, domains, phone numbers, even river and body of water names) every day through Anki, so I feel like I've an edge elsewhere I'd like to test out. So, I'll be back soon enough. Hope to see you there!! (For anyone else wondering, my Twitch username is @polyglot !)
I made a video or two per YEAR in the last 6 years, so not exactly "gone", just not really a RU-vidr 😂. I've several videos I really want to share with what I've learned this last decade, so at least for this year, I'll be posting consistently again.
6 years since I've uploaded consistently!!! Crazy to think it. Hopefully you all haven't forgotten me! Don't forget to follow my social media updates to see how my adventures through South America are going: English: instagram.com/irishpolyglot Spanish: instagram.com/irlandesastre Portuguese: instagram.com/brasirlandes
Hey Benny, you burn so brightly my friend. I deeply empathize with you. Few have known the thirst that you have had to know and experience. To experience such a fervent thirst can lead one to dark places seeing the endlessness of it all and recognizing our own limitedness of time, energy, and resources to be able to attain/experience it. I have many a time been there. Ultimately, I had to accept that knowledge is infinite and infinitely changing; wisdom, on the other hand, has the power to capture all knowledge and is the ultimate refuge for seekers like us so that we can move to gratitude for merely breathing instead of constantly demanding ourselves to push ourselves to the point of being out of breath. You have inspired so many over the years and I know you will continue to do so through the life you have lived and the light that shines so brightly within you. If you haven't already, pick up meditation (Kadampa Buddhists have a very nice breathing meditation tradition). It will help you to always find center, this present moment, and acceptance. I have also found great wisdom in the Tao Te Ching. I hope this passage of it inspires you too: "One who seeks knowledge learns something new every day. One who seeks the Tao unlearns something new every day. Less and less remains until you arrive at non-action. When you arrive at non-action, nothing will be left undone. Mastery of the world is achieved by letting things take their natural course. You can not master the world by changing the natural way." All the best to you my friend.
