Great video. I’ve been wanting to experiment with canbus for a while and have an idea to wire in an exhaust cutout and have it be controlled by the driving mode, opening when I put my car into sport plus.

Great video thank you 🙏🏻 , Can we use this to control other devices right , maybe use it as a boost controller with a solenoid that opens a waste-gate based on a boost gauge reading coming to the cany ?

I think it is a bit risky to rely on the CAN bus to control the engine. I was thinking about making a nitrous controller based on CAN bus but there is so much going on the bus and a bit of delay due to CAN bus arbitration can be damaging for the engine.

Hi Goat Rope Garage. Great video. I was trying to develop an app for controlling my car using my phone. The goal for me is trying to get the user setting menu in my instrument cluster to operate from my phone. My current approach has been to read the messages flowing on the CAN bus using a Korlan USB2CAN device and Can-utils and then replaying the message back to the bus to cause the desired change. Whenever I send the message for a particular function to be switched on, I can see that it momentarily switches on but then goes back to the previous state. From my experience it seems like i am not able to WRITE changes to the bus. Any inputs on what I might be doing wrong? Have just started this project so my knowledge of this is very basic. Thanks in advance!

@@user-mj7ry1ir5o So aparently there are multiple CAN buses on the vehicle. You have to send the message to the bus which is the "primary" bus for the feature you are targeting and it is not necessary for this bus to be accessible via the obd port. I tested on a ford eco sport and was able to write changes to the bus when transmitting the message onto pin 3, 11 of the OBD port aka MS CAN but the same didnt work when trying through the pins 6, 14.

Usually if a vehicle won't cut off I find the customer has straight wired the cooling fans. Did you have to do any wiring to the fans? If so unplug them and see if it cuts off.

Fan is being controlled by the Holley. It's an ECU issue, the E22 works fine, the E67 has something different going on with the relay control, my guess is that it's a different message request from the BCM.

do you need all the can bus wires? In my swap there was a highspeed one (tan and tan/black) wires that went to the donar car's electronic brake control module. I figured since I am not running that I figured it should be okay to remove those wires. Is that accurate? Same for air bags.

You'll need to find the canbus map, any modules you're not using you may have to bypass as they are all Daisy chained, so if you just skip one you'll lose everything after it and usually the ECM is one of the last ones on the bus.

@@GoatRopeGarage I think I get it. So my example the BCM connects to the ebcm and then that connects to the fuel pump flow control module and then the tcm. So what I need to do is basically replace the branch that goes from the BCM to ebcm and make it go straight to the tcm. Is that right? I can send you a diagram if that helps.

@@ClintonC1991 Yep, if you're building you're own harness just bypass, using the factory there will be two can in and two can out, just jumped them to bypass that module

Does CANNY 7 work to send CAN bus messages based on external controls? I.e. can I install my own seat cool/heat switch and use it to trigger a CAN message?
