HackRF One SDR On 40 Meters Ham

HackRF One software defined transceiver (yes, it transmits) receiving 40 meters ham band SSB phone with no upconverter. My attic mounted G5RV multi-band antenna is connected to the HackRF One's antenna connector. As you can see it performs surprisingly well.
If you have a HackRF One (or a Chinese clone) I highly recommend you try SDRangel (free software). It's a really nice SDR program that can transmit with the HackRF. It can do Narrow FM, Wide FM, AM, SSB, and other transmit modes.
The PortaPack hardware addon for the HackRF One is also a very cool upgrade for the HackRF One. Installing the Havoc firmware to the PortaPack adds some pretty amazing capabilities to the HackRF One and makes it easily portable.
GNU Radio is a very cool program that can use the HackRF One:

Hay un proyecto de transceptor usando dos hackrf para el QO-100 que se puede adaptar para otras bandas y poner modulos de PA, LNA y filtros BPF para recepcion y LPF para emision, Yo creo que seria interesante crear una comunidad para diseñar una emisora basada en el hackrf o en pluto, o en limesdr o todo junto.

SDR Console has a "Transmit" tab. Connect an HF antenna to the HackRF and click the "TX" button. That's it.

@@robrobinette hi Rob, I am using SDR Console v3 I open Transmit Tab, then DSP, When the Transmit window opens everything appears locked? I tried click on 'Sync RX nothing happens? You mentioned you clicked on a transmit buttong but this is gray as well? George, Alberta Canada DEC 28th,2021 -40c 1205am

@@georgealbertacanadaeh1038 [EDIT: The SDR Console transmit timer runs with I click the Transmit/DSP/TX button but no other indication of transmit is shown so it probably isn't really transmitting. SDRAngel and GNU Radio can make the HackRF transmit] I'm using SDR Console V3 too and when I open the transmit DSP tab it allows me to transmit by clicking TX. A timer starts and shows that transmission is ongoing until the TX is clicked again.

What is the antenna setup like ? Also do you have some external amplification ?

Attic mounted G5RV and no amplifier.

Can you add a linear amp like the ones they sell in kit form?

Yes. The low power RF sensing units can boost you to a couple of watts. I'm not familiar with anything more powerful.

What software is that in the video? Doesn't look like SDRangel

That is SDR Console. It works well but doesn't support transmit lik SDRangel.

Have you ever tried to make a contact on HF? Heck, I don't know if you're even a licensed ham. LOL 10mw isn't much, but if the band is quiet and you have a decent antenna you never know. lol I've made contacts on 6 meters during a opening with 100mw. Anyway, I have a HackRF One coming in the mail, ran across your video while trying to learn more about it. Edit: I should have added good band conditions too, which we haven't had much of lately being at the bottom of the solar cycle. :-)

SDRangel is a really nice SDR program that has transmit (NFM, WFM, AM, SSB, and more) for the HackRF.

Should try digital. I've worked australia on 1w. Something reasonable should be doable with less.

@memlord I did not use an amplifier. The HackRF One only puts out a few milliwatts of power so without an amp you're limited to QRP HF and local VHF, UHF and GHz communications.

Do you have a video of HOW to use the HackRf One for HamRadio transceivers. I would like to know what should I buy it is not obvious from any resealler.

No it does not transmit. I contacted you and explained that SDR Console - New Version, and Old Version do not transmit so I don't know how you turned on the transmit mode? Following the directions, and have an outside multi band antenna setup does not turn on the transmit in SDR Console. Something is missing to activate the software to transmit in SDR Console and unless it is explained fully I can only say that this is not real as my confirmation proves it. As mentioned just hooking up antenna does Not turn on the transmit function. So I would like to ask you again politely, How did you do this? George, Alberta Canada 29 DEC, 2021 -35c

Hey George, I did this video in 2018 and I did not transmit during the video. As far as transmit with the HackRF, I may have mixed up SDRAngel, which does transmit with the HackRF, with SDR Console. But even with SDR Console when I click on the Transmit/DSP/TX button a transmit timer begins to run but no other indication of transmit is shown so it probably isn't really transmitting. If you want to transmit try SDRAngel or GNU Radio: wiki.gnuradio.org/index.php/Hardware
