A Japanese sniper was later on record saying he had him in his sights...more than once. His gun jammed every bloody time he pulled the trigger, fucking hell Desmond's story makes me teary eyed every time I see and remmeber it.

Andrew Garfield is one of the most underrated FANTASTIC actors of our time... Couldn't have picked a better person to portray Desmond!...

Above all else this man did, I just have to admire the sheer commitment Desmond had to keep true to his principles.

He made a promise to God and kept it. That alone may have been the hardest thing he ever had to do.

Doss was a classic example of never judging a book by it's cover. His allies went from hating his guts, to having respect to world's end and realising he was one of the few pure people in the world. It doesn't take a brave man to hold a gun. It takes a brave man to serve for his nation. It takes an even braver one to serve unarmed.

"Hero" is for someone who does something someone should do. Saving their fellow neighbor, fellow human, fellow creature. from saving their life to putting a smile onto their face when they havent felt happiness in a long time. even if one doesnt change the world. even if you didnt win. even with all odds against them. they continue on. shouldering the burden of the title through all hardships. but we must be heroes as well. showing respect, generosity, honesty. because when the heroes save us.... who will save them? who will help them in their darkest hour. who can help them when they cant help themselves. that is when we become heroes. and they return that back. and we give back again. to all heroes out there reading this. no matter how big or small. thank you for everything you do. thank you for any sacrifice you may have given. from the least worrisome, or the greatest sacrifice of all "with great power must also come with great responsibility" never give up. fight on heroes. as we will fight with you.. 07

man with a purest heart is a strongest person, mentally and physically.

Desmond's story inspired me to find god. Whenever i have doubts about my faith or any challenge that faces me. I look up to him and god for guidance. Desmond Doss's story is not just a heroic story, but a modern-day biblical epic. Thank you, Desmond Doss. And thank you for making this tribute to this wonderful man.

Every now and then I'll take a look at medal of honor citations, just to get a look at the men who served before me. They always tell stories of the most ridiculously brave actions I've ever heard of. True heros

Honestly Smitty was my favorite character. It's shown perfectly that under that "tough, gangster, badboy" attitude, he is a genuine good guy. Yes he had some scuffles with Desmond but when shit went down for real like when Desmond was beat up in his sleep, who stopped them? Smitty did. When Desmond ran first into fire to rescue more people, who followed him first? Smitty. When Desmond volunteered to work longer to help more, who volunteered to go be his guard? Smitty. Truly and underrated character, I wish he was real.

The sacrifice and reserve of Desmond Doss is inspirational. all of us should be grateful to them for our brave soldiers who gave it all in the name and meaning of FREEDOM. This movie will always have a special place in my heart. A man of principal and morals unwavering in the face of extreme adversity. Rare few compare to Desmond Doss. A true diamond in the rough!

Andrew not only nailed the acting but also nailed the look of Desmond. Very rarely in historical movies do the actors look like the real person at all.

And the thing is? Doss wouldn’t even see himself as a hero. He’s just a good man with an unshakable faith and conviction.

Hacksaw Ridge was one of the more emotional and inspirational movies for me that I have seen in my lifetime. The fact that it is based on a true story really makes me have hope in humanity, thank you Desmond Doss for helping all those people out instead of killing.

In all due respect to everyone involved. I think the ridicule that Doss had to endure sort of acted as fuel to his fire. I believe it made him stronger and helped him be the best he possibly could, driving him all the way down to his core not stopping until he knew everyone that could be saved was saved.

A true real life hero. I saw this movie, watched it 3 more times after that later. Love it so much. The amount of courage and self-sacrifice it took to face death head on in this great act of kindness, I can't even fathom it. Desmond Doss, a man among men who eclipsed all forms of understanding during the era where our world was dyed black and white. The fruits of his efforts produced a beautiful shade of grey, concocted with his cast iron conviction forged in honor and respect for his fellow man. Kissed by the angel of death numerous times only to pick himself up and push his battle damaged vessel to it's utmost limit. Hanging on a thread uttering the words that spurred his undying will, "Just one more.". In any era of life there are a seldom few who in every possible sense are the epitome of a hero. Desmond Doss, is one of those seldom few.

When I watched this movie the part that gave me cry was when he came down from the ridge after saving so many, and he was walking between all the other soldiers and they were putting their hands on his shoulders to reassure him, and they all just had this look of awe on their faces that this man had risked his life over and over, despite how they had treated him.
