Taking every break I can in the weather, I took this opportunity to head down west and fish some different waters. I haven't drifted for Haddock in the this area on my own boat before and I was thrilled with the day I had. As you will see there was a fair amount of ground swell still out there making the day far from perfect. I hope you find some useful information and enjoy the fishing as much as I did.

John you are a star! Really enjoyed the simplicity of this presentation and how you show that we need to throw back the undersized or less usable species to let them grow and reproduce. I worry about the countries that scrape the seabed clean of species to extract the popular and dispose of the undesirable, dead back in the ocean. Love your message x
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 года назад
- Thank you Nick. Hopefully from our example more anglers will adopt this approach to their fishing. I also truly worry about the over exploitation by big commercial vessels. They are just pure destruction and greed.

@@TheFishLocker I returned to boat fishing last year when I retired. Yes you're right, Anglesey is special and I'm just starting to find out how good it really is, now that I've started to network with the local lads. I overlook the Straits, so can pop down and find settled fishing when everywhere else has been blown off. The Straits can be very challenging for boats - hence the famous quote from Nelson "If you can sail in the Menai Straits you can sail anywhere in the world"!

- I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm sorry but no not really. I can't make a video explaining what you can take home. Simply because the rules in every place are different and the rules are constantly changing. If I did make a video it would be an hour long to cover all the rules for all the different species and even then it would only be relevant to my area of the coast and at the time I made it. They could change the rules next week and my video would be giving people the wrong information. The best advice I can give is to speak to your local fisheries authority so they can give you the up to date relevant rules for your area. :)

Hi mate glad I found your channel! I live in Penzance I was just wondering what pound line you use for Haddock? Am going out on my friends boat soon so I am trying to learn from you. Cheers!

Chas - Hi there, welcome to the channel. Hopefully there will be plenty of useful stuff for you on here. The mainline isn’t really that important. But the hooklength I think I used 30 or 40lb mono. Just in case you encounter anything a little toothier. 😉👍🏻🎣

mark findlay - If you’re struggling and really want to get amongst them we do get quite a good run of them in the SW. I’d have a look at Lo Kie Adventures out of Penzance. Great skipper and really gets amongst the fish.

Hello John question or suggestion for your video on Haddock fishing why don't you put a small slide lead between 2 crimps on your rig between the bottom hook and the top hook to make sure your rig goes down tight and it lays tighter on the ground when you drift .

Why don't you give it a try and feedback how you get on. 👍🏻

Another great video, thanks. I have to ask what you think is the best eating fish? For me, you can't beat Haddock. I have a friend who runs a fish and chip shop in Doncaster and he tells me he cant sell Haddock because all his customers ask for Cod. To me Haddock flesh is much more delicate and tender, it tastes much better than Cod, which is a bit chewy for my liking.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 года назад
- Favourite fish. Smoked, poached Haddock. Cod is ok, so is Halibut but Haddock is my favourite. People who only request cod generally don't know any better.

Hi John, love your tutorials. I just have one question, I have coarse and fly fished for many years and cant reel in with my right hand. So how do sea fishers manage to reel fixed spool with their left hand and multis with their right?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 года назад
- Just practice I guess. I find it really weird trying to do a fixed spool with my right hand now.
@jaimaUK
@jaimaUK 3 года назад
With a multiplier reel the rod guides/eyes are turned 180 degrees (rod guides/eyes facing towards the sky usually right handed reeling) a spinning rod is usually used with the dominant hand for casting and rod guides facing the water/downward for casting lures/baits can be used either right or left handed reeling just depends on the individual user really
