DEATH TO KRONOS. Supergiant revealed it’s next project, their first ever sequel, Hades II, the follow up to the seminal rouge-like experience. Like it’s predecessor, Hades II will come to early access as it develops.
Hey there, Zag man, how’s it going? Look, you’ve got to get up here with us olympians already. We’ve been saving you a spot! Let me see what I can do to make this game arrive sooner, maybe I can make life a bit sweeter in the meantime!
@@ededdneddy4ever34 Zagreus and Melinoe are both Persephone's children. The father varies from story to story, often flip-flopping between a mortal king, Zeus, and Hades.
I had come up with a concept for a prequel to Hades where you'd play as Persephone fighting her way down to escape Olympus. glad to see that SGG also keyed into the idea of flipping direction like that
Melione; goddess of souls lost before reaching the underworld; goddess of ghosts and judgement, who is sent to the surface with her lost soul army and retrieves the offerings left for the dead. Described as a being half of light and half of shadow, daughter of Persephone and Hades.
@@Vahlosteus huh. I guess jumped to conclusions. Should probably re watch it. I cant recognize anyone so it being a prequel with chronos as the big bad was completely pure fact to me. I guess not..
The year Hades came out my home was destroyed by cat 4 hurricane. I spent about 4 months living in hotel rooms, out of a suitcase in random peoples living rooms, and in my car for some time. Because of the massive damage to our town we couldn’t do much but wait for fema to process disaster relief. Literally all I had during this time was my phone, some clothes, and my switch with hades on it. Playing this game got me through the darkest months of my life and even added a bit of joy and light to some days that seemed genuinely hopeless. When I saw this art style in the first few seconds of the trailer I teared up. I have since been able to relocate to a home with a roof over my head and have now played almost all of supergiants games. Can’t wait to play this next one.
So from what I got so far, you're playing as Melinoe, who is a child of Persephone like Zagreus; she's his sister. The father varies from myth to myth, but going off of what she said in this trailer, it seems like her father is Hades. Unlike Zagreus, who constantly fights to get to the surface, Melinoe seems to be fighting to get into the underworld. Not only that, she is trying to reach her father, mirroring Zagreus's adventure where he was trying to get to his mother.
I feel like based on the "Death to Kronos", it's less about reaching her father, and more about killing Kronos, a titan, which have been locked away in tartarus if I'm not mistaken
@@privatizitat815 but there are actually 2 of them a primordial( time incarnate) and a titan (god of harvest, father of elder olympians) this made me confused
@@mokshitsati7248 Yes, Χρονος (Chronos or Khronos) and Κρονος (Cronus, Cronos, Kronos) are two distinct dieties by some texts. However, as usually happens in Greek Mythology, they are sometimes correlated, mixed up and even combined. Sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously. It was decently common to mix them during the Ancient period. The names don't help either. Χρόνος in Ancient Greek literally meant "time". There was no specification that it was the "god of time". Ζευς doesn't mean "father" or "King" or "lightning". Δημήτηρ doesn't mean "crop" or "mother". He could have been less of a god and more of a facet or abstract concept, just like Chaos in some interpretations. Also, Chronos is supposed to be the father of Chaos and other primordial gods, but it's usually said that *Chaos* is the father of the primordial gods. The debate between different gods and different facets of the same god is recurring. Athena and Pallas Athena are sometimes confused as two different goddesses. Both Hades and Zeus are sometimes referred to as "Zeus of the Underworld" (Ζεὺς καταχθόνιος), which may have caused confusion between the two. It's all a huge mess of myths that constantly contradict (like any religion).
My guess is the witch is Hecate, associated with magic/witchcraft. She was often depicted as three-formed, and her design could be Supergiant doing a neat little wink to that depiction of her by having her shoulder pauldrons also be faces for a total of three faces.
Fun fact: Melinoe seems to have an athame and a boline as weapons. An athame is a ceremonial blade used in modern witchcraft to channel and direct energy, not usually used to actually cut things. The boline is the small sickle shaped blade, and is used in modern witchcraft for more practical things like cutting cords, carving runes or sigils, and harvesting plants. So Melinoe has learned how to fight from Hekate, the goddess of witchcraft and crossroads, and subsequently uses tools of witchcraft as weapons.
My theory is because of Zagreus' escape antics, Chronos was able to escape and imprisoned Hades in his place. To free him they need to defeat Chronos who escaped to the surface. Zagreus can't survive on the surface & maybe has to cover his father's job now, so it's up to his little sister Melinoe to save the day. Seems like she trained with Hecate much like Zagreus trained with Achilles
Interesting theory, except we already know that Melinoe is trying to get down into the underworld from the surface, not the other way around. Its the reverse of Zagreus. As for whats going on with chronos or zagreus, we don't know yet.
I have more than 700 runs on Hades and i never get tired of it, one of the best games i have ever played. I was hoping for a DLC, but a new game is more than welcome. I am so excited for this !!!!!😄😄😄
Smart sale timing for Hades 1! I bought it this week for like 10 bucks and have been absolutely blown away by it. Good to see they're rolling with this epic ball theyve built.
Same but I got it for around $5 around 4 days ago and already spent like 27hrs in jt. And I was even trying to keep myself from playing nonstop too. Amazing game and can’t believe it gets a sequel. I’m sold already can’t wait!
i got it 5 days ago and have been playing nonstop. i just beat hades today on my 33rd attempt, just in time for the announcement of the next game 😭 i’m already so excited
I've had a genuine heart attack as soon as this trailer dropped. Hades was one of my absolute favorite games back when it released so a sequel definitely was jaw dropping. One of the best announcements of the game awards in my opinion, I can't wait
This looks and sounds AMAZING. I can't WAIT to play! Legit shivers while watching this trailer. The animation team did such a good fight sequence at the beginning; the colours are wonderful.
This is awesome 😍 So my guess is that Cronos has captured Hades and Melinoe is trying to safe him. It explains why the other characters we know and love won't appear or will have very minor roles, they will be busy running the under world. Wonder how the siblings will get along 😍
I find it funny that Hades 2 gets it announcement at VicomCBS game awards, when you remember what award Supergiant has that only they have. Remember Hades is the First and to date only Video Game ever to win A Hugo award, you know whats considered the premier award of Science Fiction and Fantasy.
IM SO HYPED!!! hades helped me through so much, i can’t wait! also i love the new gods we’ll get to me - and i love apollo’s design! the fact that his bow has multiple strings to make it like an instrument is great.
I am so ready for this! But I am definitely most curious about the weapons, the story, and most importantly wondering were Zag is going to be during the timeframe of game!
I could see some kind of event like the ones we had with Thanatos during the runs in the first game with both siblings crossing paths, one going up from Tartarus (Zag) and the other on her way down to fight Chronos
That would be so cool! I can already imagine it, “Oh, hey sis! Want a hand?” “So, you fight these things, that different from me!” Or we get the original enemies that don’t show up typically and we would be lending Zag a hand!
@@enriquepx1698 wouldn’t really make sense for zag to just continue trying to escape when his dad is captured and in Hades with him. He either figured out how to leave and doesn’t care, is on Kronos’ team, or is also captured
@@shanedancer3895 I mean he could be escaping FROM Chronos, trying to avoid getting captured and maybe as a "last resort" sort of thought trying to get to the surface and alert the Olympians so that they can help free Hades (not knowing Melinoe is already working on that ) We don't really know how long it's been since the first game so it's anyone's guess (I just thought it would be an interesting encounter)
@@enriquepx1698 yeah I guess he could be fighting Kronos but I doubt he’d be going up considering the olympians obviously know and they can communicate with him. Although idk why he wouldn’t be just attacking Kronos considering he can’t really die bc he just respawns out of the river styx even if he dies. If Kronos controls time my guess is he’s doing some crazy time magic stuff the stop zagreus from being able to do anything otherwise he’s be fighting him forever
This looks like its on the surface??? how is she not melting into the Styx??? I AM SO FASCINATED and I can't wait to learn all the lore. .....also to see all the new hot characters.
I’m so surprised and happy about this announcement, Hades is one of my favorite games. the fact that we are getting a sequel is amazing. And it looks just as good and sounds as good as the original.
well, this is his sister we are playing as now... if this is a sequel, it probably happens some time after Zagreus reunited his family the plot for Melione's story goes some thing along the lines of... her father, Hades, was captured and imprisoned by Titan Kronos and now she is on her way to rescue him after completing her training in witchcraft and combat by who we assume is Hekate, and in order to achieve her goal, Melione will have to accept help from her relatives among the Olympians and gain power boosts, she may end up dying and reviving again and again like her brother before her before she can win
I'm so hype for this and hoping to see Primodial Chaos again and see the new weapons, other gods and new lore! The first game is so absolutely incredible to grind through so this will be a much needed new take. 🙌🏾
I'm glad someone finally remembered the existence of Moros. In any case, I'm really looking forward to this. Melinoe is just as underappreciated as Moros and many other Chthonic Gods.
Every holiday season since 2020 I'm getting back to Hades but this year is different as I finally really dwelved into it, managed to beat the game and enjoying it very much! It is practically flawless. I'm hyped!
when I say I YELLED and had to stop myself from full on crying..... I'm not exaggerating. Holy gods. 😭😭😭 I've never been more excited for a game. The first one was my LIFE for so long...
My only demand with this game, is Zagreus pops up at some point, I want to see the cast of Hades 1 make a return in some compacity. That includes our beloved Alpha-Beta-Gamma Good Boy Cerberus.
Just bought Hades this week and I can honestly say that it is one of my all time favourite games! I am having so much fun and I never get tired of pushing the mechanics of the game to new levels with every victory and loss! Such an incredible game and story! ❤️ 🙏
I'm really curious if this is going to continue the themes of the first game, that even dysfunctional, family is still worth loving and making peace with, or if the titans are going to be cast as genuine, irredeemable villains whose defeat was right and proper. My guess is that it's going to start with Melinoe thinking the titans are pure evil and Kronos (or however they decide to spell his name) doing little to dispel that notion, but over time she realizes that the titans were just lashing out because they were scared, likely due to prophesies that came to pass as a result of their misguided efforts to stop them, and finds a way to make peace.
Imagine Zagreus is a boss and he uses his different weapons and boons each time you fight him? This would be GREAT! In reality i don't want them to fight, but the gameplay of fighting the past protagonist would be awesome xD
Well, one more game for my list of all-time favorite games (I hope at least). I hope that the game has some lines with Zagreus, it would be really cool to see him talk to his sister. Like, finally some nice family member to give him a hug
This got me so hyped. Looks very similar to the first one but that's good folks! The game was absolutely perfect and if this just a 'more of the same' I'd be incredibly happy. Can't wait and I hope this launches on the switch too because its my only console now
YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!! I easily sank a 100+ hours into the first HADES game without it even feeling anywhere near that long. The story-progression, new conversations, new faces, now powers, new combination of powers, new weapons, new stages with EVERY SINGLE death and restart, even after repeating the cycle for dozens and dozens and hundreds of times, it never gets old. The characters, their designs, their voice-acting, their personality are entertaining ALL THE WAY through. AND I was really hoping for a female protagonist, too, this time around. Even though Zagreus' characters was great. HADES is THE perfect example of how rogue-lites should be done and every other developer needs to learn from them to make their games have even remotely AS MUCH replay-value.
"He is time itself, and time cannot be stopped" And just with this words, this incarnation of Kronos is already scarier and more intimidating than God of War's
You clearly don’t understand greek mythology. There is no Kronos in this game, it’s Chronos. Kronos is a baby devouring Titan who has little to nothing to do with time. Chronos is the God of Time and is entirely different from Kronos. There is no Chronos in God of War, educate yourself before commenting.
@@HauntedFishes I mean a lot of adaptations combine them because it's a lot simpler that way, including GoW. I mean, having Kronos/Cronus AND Chronos is just too similar
