After the previous episode ( which was so intense I had to watch it twice, weeks apart) this is a real tonic! Both main leads deserved a BAFTA for their performances in these two episodes. The ending here is so uplifting after all the doom and gloom and I hope it lasts!
I remember Hilary Dwyer really well. She was so good in this series and played so well against Gerald Harper. I also remember her from the amazing movie Witchfinder General in which she played Ian Ogilvy’s girlfriend. The Hadleigh series was excellent and always a must-view programme at home with my family.
It's been years since I watched Witchfinder General, but now you say it, I do recall her. Also in Callan episode "Let's Kill Everybody" as his girlfriend at the time.
I can't believe he ever married her. Such an awful and spoilt brat. Apparently she was like that in real life too and the producers had to have a word with her about her attitude. Glad she left the series when she did.
Oh NO, she's not shoving off to America after all (drat, drat and double-drat)! Here's hoping Series 4 brings better news: trouble is that if she gets in the family way we may have to put up with her for the whole of Series 4 (sigh).
What I don’t understand throughout watching Hadleigh is why does he have his office and living area in one room when he lives in a mansion? Even poor people like me has a separate study/spare bedroom. Thank you for downloading
Helen is so wrong. In centuries gone by there have been plenty of unhappy women in marriages but that wanted something else to do with their lives, who didn't give voice to that unhappiness and the sense that they hadn't realised themselves and their dreams - ironically enough including women who did go on to realise their dreams but in so doing felt they'd lost out on being a wife/mother.
I get a premonition that business trip to Germany James has invited Jennifer (with that irritating nasally voice of hers) along to will end in tears and tantrums, with the result you won't see her returning for the next series. From what I can see the only woman in James life is 'The Philpotts' and she may well run off with 'rough diamond' Charlie.
The strident, petulant child stays on. Dissapointing. Do not understand what he sees in her. She isnt actually fiery, just impatient. Augh. At least he bit back a bit in this episode.
Hilary Dwyer had quite an interesting life with a reputation as being very difficult to work with .Her obituaries are worth a read and I wonder how much acting she had to do with Harper. Mind you they kissed a lot !
