Haeckels - Wild Fragrances 

Finally! Someone talking about Haeckels' fragrances.

"You don't really need to go on holiday if you're wearing that..." Exactly what we all want from a fragrance! Another excellent review of a house I might have never discovered on my own. Just listening to you transports me to the English seaside. Looking for Haeckels here in NYC. Thanks again for all your insight!

So glad to see you back, remember quality always beats quantity. I've been interested in Haeckels for a while, but after watching this I just plumped for the 5x set, which seems amazing value. You have led me to some incredible fragrances, Rogue Perfumery being a particular highlight, so thank you so much.

I agree this is an excellent house, and so unique in using regional ingredients. As usual, your reviews are spot on. The most amazing thing is that your reviews are the first of Haeckel's perfume that I have ever seen. This excellent outfit is completely under the radar. I love their landscape videos, too. Some of the postcards look like abstract artwork more than photos of the locations. I have tried 5 of the fragrances. They really form a collection, this is not a thrown-together bunch of unrelated stuff. (Just as with the house you reviewed previously, namely the World in Scents.) I love it when there is a recognizable identity behind a label. Now, I must say that in Pegwell the fresh fennel (together with some more green vegetables) disappears pretty quickly from my skin. The perfume then develops into a classic, timeless fresh-spicy-woody gentleman's scent, excellently executed but not so far out of the ordinary. I have been complimented when wearing it. Walpole Bay on the other hand really smells different. I have never much liked aquatics, found them insipid or synthetic, or terribly mixed up with fruity sweetness. But this is so watery-fresh and green. The lavender, too, is almost transparent, not the herbal sort of lavender at all. Longevity is almost as good as Pegwell's. The third one I like is Richborough: wonderful spearmint, mint also being a note I usually do not care for. Here it pervades the smell from beginning to end, embedded in a changing context. For me, it's really important that this scent never really warms up, even the base is bright. (Or you might even say there is no base.) Can you believe I dropped my 7.5 ml bottle while it was still almost completely full? Oh no! All smell natural. I also find them versatile: elegant enough for official occasions, relaxed enough for jeans and sweaters, unobtrusive enough for the office, but still distinctive. None of these three are sweet, which makes them stand out among contemporary perfumes. (That's also why I'm not so excited about Reculver, and especially Dreamland, which are much sweeter and heavier.) I'm now curious about St. John's Cemetery. [I originally posted a similar response under your Top Ten Summer Fragrances video, but it seems not to be there actually, so I am posting this revised version here.]

I’ve heard so many wonderful reviews about Haeckels but trust you two the most with a blind sampler purchase. Thank you both for another thoroughly tested, and really descriptive review. Side note: Couldn’t find a stockist in the US carrying the travel size packs but Goodee in Canada still has them if anyone is interested. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.

I got to say that because of you I bought Pegwell Bay about a month back. It is absolutely gorgeous and so different to any other ”freshie” if you will that I have ever smelled before.

You guys make wonderful, informative videos with a selection of fantastic scents. How about a one-off special on how to properly apply these olfactory treasures? There are very few videos out there on applying fragrances correctly.

Just got the whole sample set after getting (and loving) Pegwell Bay on your recommendation. Botany is my next favourite.

I bought the 5 X 7.5 ml bottle GPS Parfum Exploration set and replaced 2 for Blean Woods and St. John’ s Cemetery. I find all of them utterly remarkable, like a VR experience transporting you into a wild corner of the woods or laying in the weeds and wild plants found growing at the edge of a field. The description on the box, “Wild Fragrance” is accurate.

Great video chaps. I have 2 bottles of Pegwel Bay (Thanks to you), but haven't tried any of the others. I'm going to get some samples this week.

Hi guys, nice to see you back with a new video. I got a sample of Pegwell Bay today and am liking it. Initially I thought salty and minty, but its dried down nice and fresh, will give it a wear out. Def cant detect any goats arse in it! Got a sample of Pryn Turkish Leather which is really nice. Can I detect tabacco? Anything similar to that with a stronger tabacco note? Great vids. Cheers. 👍

They seem such a quintessentially English product and that appeals so much. Super vid, in itself evocative and painting a picture of the product..still why bother when a bottle of Jezza F is the same price (thank goodness im joking). On a serious note. Does the fennel in Pegwell Bay have a similar presence to Azzaro Pour Hommes Anise. Is it more or less dominant, im guessing much better blended.. cheers Gents.

So which one of them smells closest to nature? No interest in accords that makes them smell like a typical fragrance. I want a natural experience of the nature and coast. Which one do you recommend?

Love the reviews from these two gay guys! Always interesting fragrances from the more obscure corners but not so sure many of them are safe blind buys ... and unless you’re in London it’s tricky but we will overcome. Keep it up
