Good day Jon. 7:12 Yuma time. Thanks for the well wishs'. I be good. Looking forward to the final side by side. I think ya pick a very good trio of kits. A great cross-section of kits across that time span. Watched the Super Hawk video. SOOOOOOOOOO jealous!!!! Good engine paint video. I hope ya videos bring modelers back to the joy of just modeling a 50 part kit!!! Take care!!
Hey Jon. Another great vid! Love this kit. Built it about 18 years ago. I agree with your opinion on the cockpit. I’d love to do this kit again with an aftermarket cockpit. I would say it is a straightforward build with no unnecessary surprises and overall very good surface details. I don’t remember if the decals were white or that washed look. Probably cause I weathered the hell out of the kit. Looking forward to seeing these three angels complete! Thanks
Hello Jon, great video, although the Mini Art Kit is much superior in details, the Hasegawa kit is still a great model, I hope to assemble the Hasegawa in a while, I also have the Hobbyboss, which despite being very cheap, it has some very interesting details, I have not found out if there are any flaws in it, the only detail it has is that the cabin glass is entire, it cannot be placed open. Returning to the Hasegawa Kit, the cabin and its details seem very good to me, if I compare them with the Academy Kit, it is superior, it is a pleasure to see that there are no major assembly problems, so let's wait for the next videos, greetings and thank you oor your time making these videos, greetings friend.
As kid in the late 70s, I built Monogram's 2 P-47s (razorback and bubble) and they were my two favorite kits for a long time. My brother had to help me paint the invasion stripes using Testor's old school enamels straight out of the jar - hey, we didn't know any better back then. I really appreciate all the work you do on these videos and the helpful information you provide. I'm working on a Das Werk/Takom King Tiger right now with some surprisingly ill-fitting parts (the plastic is odd too, soft, yet brittle) and I caught myself thinking "I wish that Jon guy did a video on this kit before I bought it." Ha Ha
I built this kit many years ago. It was enjoyable. As you pointed out, it has been superseded by the Tamiya and Mini Art offerings, however it still builds nicely and looks like a P-47 when completed. The one thing I appreciated more about the Tamiya offering was the engineering, which avoided some of those steps you tend to get where the lower wing joins the fuselage on the Hasegawa kit.
I bought this kit in 90's in a special edition with french decoration, I made it 6 years ago, its a wonderful kit and no problems with decals, I enjoyed it.
I seem to reflect a lot on Otaki, however this kit surface details reminds me a lot of their kits. It's always fun to build multiple kits at a time. . Nice to see you still using the best clamps ever, clothes pens and rubber bands ya just can't replace those. Plus I've never thought of fitting the wings like you did, definitely makes for a better fit on some models. I'm anxious to see more portions of this build. Plus Minicraft did get their box art correct on the " N " kit. Sometimes I think the P-51 gets more credit than its due for escorting compared to the P47 and P38, especially in European operations. Cheers Bob
Right on, Bob! Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles did a great series on the P-47, making that same point. Probably the best high-altitude piston-engined fighter of the war and a very effective ground attack aircraft as well. Cheers!
I'm wondering if the decal cream color is due to age. I habe the Hasegawa F-104C and the white on the markings is white not cream but it's fairly new. I recently did their 1/32 Ju-87G as a commission and it was original from 2005 so almost 20 years old and yep, the white had turned cream. Or maybe they only recently figured out the issue, who knows? I have this kit in the stash but the decals are toast anyway so aftermarket it is...
@jr7392 Right on! The Hasegawa decals actually perform better than the Tamiya decals from that time. I've had to replace the decals on almost every Tamiya kit from the same era. Cheers!
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Oh I hear you, Tamiya decals are atrocious. Even their newer ones aren't great. Never got that, they make great kits but awful decals. Talk about dropping the ball at the end!
