Very good job overcoming those fit issues. Unusual for Hasegawa especially for 1/48 at least on the kits I built. I think a sheet of styrene on the bench is essential. You never know until you know just how south things can get in the middle of build! All that aside it’s looking like a fantastic build. Thanks for showing us ways around those “bumps” in the build! Great conversion!
Hi Jeff! I have a Hasegawa P-47 Razorback waiting on the shelf. I may do a group build with it and the Dora Wings P-43 Lancer. I should pick up a Tamiya P-47 at some point as well just to say I've built one. Cheers!
Greetings my friend, you have made great progress on the P47 Jug, I have only ever seen a P-47 once, and it was a big aircraft, happy modelling bedt wishex from Australia, Les
Thanks, Les! This project is a great learning experience for me since I've only built one other P-47 kit many years ago. Cheers from Pennsylvania, USA!
Hello Jon, congratulations for the work you are doing with those P47s, each one presents its difficulties and you solve them in the best way, regarding details such as the engine crank or the flaps, I find them very interesting, as I have said before, I have this kit waiting to be assembled, I am worried now about the decals, Hasegawa stands out for the fact that their decals do not support the ibernation time in the kits hahahaha, I will take a look at the box and see the condition. ... I'm surprised by the cowling and its adjustment problem, it's a good detail to have put it in the video, many put together and make it seem like everything fits perfectly and in reality it doesn't, that's why I really value your videos because they show real situations that we face. We have to face when assembling the models, greetings and until the next video.
Thanks Francisco! Even with the fit issues, I'm really enjoying this build. For me, doing the mild conversions really makes the build much more fun. I like knowing it will be something different than the normal builds. Hopefully, the decals in your kit will be useable. Cheers!
I'm building the Hasegawa P-47D and looked up your video. Mine is kit 09564 the Armee de L'Air version. Re the F7 piece at the front of the cowling. Mine wouldn't fit to the engine as the instructions seemed to suggest- but I fitted it into the front of the cowling, and everything else went together snugly, but it fitted ok without chopping anything. I didn't see that tab you point to with your pen, so perhaps they've modified something? The front of your engine has detail that isn't on my kit too.
I think you're correct, Simon, about Hasegawa modifying the part for better fit. This is not a typical Hasegawa error and I'm glad you didn't have the same problem. As for the engine front, because I'm modeling the M version that came with a different engine, I used a different crank case from a Hasegawa F4U7 corsair instead of the kit piece. Cheers!
The dive brakes were on the P-47D-30 and onward. The later P-47N had a different wing without the dive flaps. Great question about the engine! The only part of the engine that I changed was the crank case. The interference was with the cylinders and air scoop. I was surprised, but it only took a few minutes to correct the issue. Cheers!
Hi Jon. In my knowledge, the second profile in your Aeromaster decal sheet should be a quite glossy plain black (not dark blue, nor aubergine color) over NMF. I remember a photograph in color (not colorized !) sent by Modeldad to a thread of Hyperscale (IIRC). Nice video. 😊
Great vid John. A couple of points. Hasegawa released a P-47M and in their kit they solved the dive flaps with photo etch and the crankcase with a sprue from their late Corsair kit which contained the crankcase. Tamiya offer an M model P-47 and their kit allows many of the D model variants to be built with the extra parts it contains. I would love to see you also build up a Tamiya P-47, but I suspect after this effort , you will be all P-47d out. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, Ben! I would love to build the Tamiya P-47 at some point, but I don't have one in the stash currently. I'm not looking forward to painting the P-47s since all of them seem to have involved paint schemes. But it will give them "shelf presence". Cheers!
Happy Saturday Jon, even though you had to make those modifications, I still like the surface detail on this kit. In a fighter comparison conversation you could talk about the P-47 for a long time. In addition to it's shear size, one of the reasons it was so big is it had a huge and powerful supercharger system supporting the engine ergo the large airframe. I think the group you are using on this build was also Gabreskis group. This will be a great threesome .. I haven't built a P47 , maybe a good group would be all the aircraft Gabreski flew in combat. Standing by for more videos on your progress. Cheers, Bob
The black color had a purple ish tint to it, and was more flat than gloss. I have a book on the 56th FG that has some full color photos of P-47M's in it.
Right on! I have seen those pictures. I have a custom mix of flat black and Army Air Core blue that I use for my Japanese cowl color that I think will be perfect for the job. Cheers!
