eatmymoto Thank you for posting the video. Great to see and hear it both. Have collected a bit more info if you are interested. The owner is German and makes the rounds of the airshows in Germany. He and his wife were at Tannkosh in 2011 at Tannheim, Germany. Smaller than Oshkosh, it is the closest European equivalent. Scanning through some of the German aerokurier posts, I found out he is a former German Air Force jet flight instructor who lived and worked a few year in the US, probably at Luke AFB, Arizona who now works for the Airbus Group on Lake Constance. He and a few others formed The Antique Aero Flyers in 2008 with a Travel Air 4000, a Curtiss Robin, the Ryan STA Special, and a Morane-Saulnier MS-317th. Stated goal: We want to demonstrate our love for rare and old aircraft, these rarities keep airworthy for future generations and to familiarize people with the fascination and the history of the aircraft. A worthy task and I am glad he is keeping the STA flying rather than in a museum somewhere.

The other Ryan ST-A with the starting problems is a 1939 model. Wish the guys would be a bit more careful how they start up a one of only ten built airplane. At least get someone inside on the brakes and use chocks. You only have to hang on to a wing strut and go round and round and round trying to keep the plane from leaving without you once to learn to tie the tail to something.

It's the electric motor, to complete with the new zero emission laws. ;o)
