Honestly Tsukishima is probably having some really unpleasant flashbacks during that scene. And thinks to himself, "Well now you all see how no good comes out of getting emotionally invested"
@@hana-a-chaAnd you did a good job at not giving spoilers. I think I was vague enough I mean I did mention his brother, but I didn't elaborate on that.
no but there is seriously something so special and real about the eating scene. diachi looking for approval from suga before eating, bc although he’s captain, suga is older. same with kageyama waiting for hinata to start eating before he did too, since he’s the youngest out of everyone. and although the fact that the coach was the one with the most dialogue, we STILL see a great representation of the other characters. for example, noya devouring an entire plate and tsukki not crying while everyone else is... even though he would normally tease or be sarcastic, he’s quiet. this is such a bonding experience for them. they eat together, they cry together, and they will soon grow together. sometimes you lose, sometimes you learn. and i think that’s a beautiful lesson to learn from this show.
and i’m not saying tsukki doesn’t feel the same hurt as the others bc he DOES. he’ll learn and grow even more in the next season and i can’t wait for victoria to witness such an amazing arc 🥺
@@joann9657 Tsukki being quiet during that scene is basically him crying but he doesn’t show that much emotion since he is still of the opinion that it’s just a club but he is hurt and I love how they portrayed it Btw I am agreeing with you, just letting others know more context I guess
I’m Japanese Haikyuu fan, and I really enjoyed your reactions! In my opinion, the translation of Yamaguchi’s line ‘’I can’t do what they do” is completely wrong. It’s more like “I want to be like them” or “I want to be able to do what they do”, so I think it’s not fixed mind set. Yamaguchi is the one of the characters who grow up mentally the most through this show, and this scene is meant to represent that his mind has changed because he experienced how it feels when his lack of ability makes him defeated. Sorry for my bad English. I hope you guys can get what I’m trying to say...
Manga spoiler Yamaguchi is the best person among the four of them to become team captain when they are seniors. It’s true, he has a lot of growing up to do and a lot of it is off screen but he is the most stable personality. The other three are just volleyball obsessed.
@@RaineLam Agreed! he's so mature and has such a good grasp over everything, unlike Hinata and Kageyama who are full Volleyball Onis and Tsukki who puts on such a deadpan face all the time
I really liked the touch of Oikawa's fangirls clapping to show their respect towards Karasuno after the match. Like, it's something little and commonplace but those girls slowly evolved over the course of the match to rooting for Oikawa to just embracing the game itself, and them acknowledging how hard those crows fought added yet another layer of depth to an already great scene.
The proper term is Anime Otaku. Otaku = geek Weeb is actually a really negative thing but thanks to memes and miss use its got a lot of attraction to over shadowed the positive word.
Random a Japanese otaku passing by. lol In japan, meaning of Otaku is changing. Ten years ago, most of people had negative impressin of the word otaku. But, recentry, Otaku is more possitively meaning.
Hey Victoria! The reason why oikawa was able to read kageyama's attack at the end was because when in last episode kageyama stopped tsukishima for the reason that he thought oikawa would toss to iwa. He read oikawa's this attack because kageyama actually started to trust his teammates, and in that moment he realized his old self would toss to the best option, which there he says 'thats what i would do' and he realizes oikawa was going to toss not to the best option, but the option he trusts the most, his childhood friend iwa. So he stops tsukishima who also thought oikawa would set the best option, to wait for his toss to iwa. This shows kageyama now stopped thinking rationally like a robot and started to understand how trust works. When oikawa realized this, he also realized that kageyama stopped becoming the dictator king, and started to read trust based attacks, and at the end oikawa knew that now reformed kageyama wouldnt toss to the best option, but his most trusted option, hinata. Because kageyama changed, and oikawa realized that. edit: iwa is not the onion head, onion head is kindaichi a first year, iwa is oikawa's childhood headbumper friend who is a senior like oikawa. note: you will be seeing lots of kenma and kuroo and bokuto in season two! prepare for that practice experience you wanted to see!
@@spankthatshank7568 it's usually hard for first time watchers to get a good grasp of characters and character developments while trying to learn all the info and focus on the game and also try to react as well, in victoria's case. It doesn't hurt anyone that i typed these, so idk whats the point of you commenting, want me to delete the comment or something?
Just some advice that you don't have to listen to; You don't have to remember the names of everyone in Haikyu because there's way too many. In the whole series, you've met around a third of the total characters, so don't worry about remembering exactly everyone, but there'll definetely be ones you'll really like!
The reason they're making such a big deal about the third years staying in the club is because in Japan they have to take entrance exams in order to get into University and most students even go to after school study sessions called juku that can last till 8 or 10 pm everyday in order to prepare for those exams. Obviously if they're doing club sports it makes it impossible to do the prep work that's needed.
@@ellatraynor252 No, they are much more difficult. And you have to take one for each school you apply to, at the school you are applying to. It's not one test for all universities. Obviously the level of difficulty for these tests is different depending on the school you are applying to, and which program within the school you are applying for. (Tests for business will be different than tests for med, different from engineering etc) In the US although we have options to take different SAT subjects, generally the SAT is the same no matter where you plan to apply. In Japan the entrance exams are different for each uni. That means the entrance exams for top schools are waaaay harder than for lower level schools. Some students spend years taking the entrance exams trying to get into school. Students are accepted by their rank on the test. Also this system is in use in all higher levels of schooling, students must test into middle school, high school, and uni.
This is a cultural difference that's very interesting to me. I'm not a fan of USA standardized testing, so another culture that leans very hard into subject testing probably has a lot to offer in the education community. Of course I know it's not all good (japan youth anxiety levels being among the highest in the globe), but I'd like to get some perspective on that
@@momzwrite It's a huge problem in terms of placing a lot of pressure on students to perform really well on one particular day at one particular exam. The most common argument in favor of these exams that is touted is that this is the best way to get only the top of the top students, but it's actually just the "easiest" way because it sorts students in a very black and white manner. There are problems with the US system too though, like having to have a resume filled with all sorts of varied activities to appear well-rounded. Growing up in the US, I remember being stressed out because I had to take so many AP classes, as well as work part-time for college money and try to volunteer in my free time. Imo the main problem is mainly the whole idea of "top universities" because you can really get excellent educations at many "mid to even low-tier" universities, though even those are getting hard to get into. The other problem I've heard lobbied about the US system is that it creates a loop-hole for people to create fluffed up resumes. In general, both systems favor the more well-resourced because they can afford to dedicate all their time towards academic endeavors that appear favorable to universities, but I don't think that's a problem that the system wants to solve ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yep Japanese exams are notoriously brutal difficulty wise and then not given that often iirc. WSJ had some sample questions from the English portion of 1 of them at one point.
And everyone cries this episode 😭. Except Tsuki, Tsuki didn't cry even in the meal lol. I love how Haikyuu tries to end this season in a good note even though that meals was a perfect place to stop. They don't want the audience to sit in sadness while waiting for the next season. Always Haikyuu is about picking yourself back up through pain.
'Next time, Season 2!' Ngl season 2 is my fav season because of Bokuto and Akaashi as well as all of the practice matches and real games. I also really like the Jozenji (Idk if that's right I'm half awake) episodes because of the flashbacks
I cried like a baby at this reaction scene. I watched the show soo often and only cried the first time. But now with vic and the reaction the yourney we went through. Tears are running faster than shojo.
OK a few remarks Victoria: -In JP their highschool is 3 years long (10th, 11th and 12th grade), and their college entrance depends exclusively on the entrance exams, which take place at the end of the 3rd year. So usually seniors retire from sports to take the last half of the 3rd year to study for their entrance exams. Its not like in the US where your grades influence your destination. -Haikyuu has 4 seasons. But I believe only 3 of them are on Neflix rn. Maybe when you get there Netflix will release the 4th season. If they don't, there are many other ways to watch anime. -Iwa is Oikawa's 3rd year bff. But he is not "onion-head", that is kindaichi, one of the two players that played with kageyama during middle school. Thanks for everything!! Looking forward to future seasons. Haikyuu hasn't even come close to peaking yet!
Yeah, the 3rd year point is an important one. As we progress, every third year we see that are playing volleyball are making a sacrifice for it. It is not necessarly a big sacrifice (depending on your POV) but it explains why some teams have no 3rd year going forward (and the 3rd years who keeps playing volleyball are usually good).
Victoria is so accountable, she addressed her concern of her flashback of a flashback triggered by a different flashback. Victoria, I accept and appreciate that you are exploring experiences outside of your comfort zone. I hope we can all show you the decency to allow you to make mistakes and appreciate you taking the time to learn our passion! thank you for another video!
Season 2 is waving... Yachi is waving... Saeko is waving... Bokuto is waving... No. OYA OYA OYA Squad is waving.... 😂 Edit: actually I meant, "The Third Gym Squad"
Vic: "my prediction is they're gonna loose. so far I've been always right!" me: yeah but are you emotionally prepared to be right? Vic: "I had a rough day, I cried earlier." me, remembering end of episode 24: "....oh no...." xD
The thing I love most about Vicky is her random appreciation moments for Suga and Tanaka. I hope she'll start appreciating the rest of the second years by the second season as well. Seriously, everyone in Karasuno needs appreciation.
It is so impactful too. It is what he said when they performed the quick attack for the first time. It is also said 2 more crucial times that I can remember in the next seasons
@@Hsel-lc1wt I get so angry that he stole kageyama’s lines. Idk, it’s like their personal to hinata and kageyama. I love him but it just makes me upset
Fun fact: those noises that you here when someone makes a good point is actually part of Japanese culture. It’s essentially a “I understand and I’m listening.” Whereas in European countries the expectation is to be silent when others are talking.
Victoria: **realizes she gave a speech on FBK when Karasuno was serving and then says we must have been cackling at that confusion** Me: **blinks twice** wait Karasuno was serving? JSJAJJAJAJJAJJAJA sharing a braincell moment, istg
Don’t worry about cheering for other teams or getting emotional during this show. I’ve caught myself many times cheering for Karasuno’s opponents, simply because this show makes such a great point that there are no “enemies “. All of them are sportsmen and women who trained hard and want to win. Seeing their defeat hurts but that’s what makes this show so good.
@@silsail I felt so bad for him... tbh I really wanna see Takeru, Hinata and Hoshiumi team up and train together and maybe we can see all of em take a picture with Tenma or smth??? I know it's not canon but pls someone fanart this
Iwa is not onion head. Onion head is the ex-classmate of Kageyama with 'bigger' hair. Onion head and Kageyama are both first-years, but Iwaizumi and Oikawa are third-years (last highschool year in Japan). And btw, don't worry about messing some things up. We love all your reactions and a lot of us are very happy to help and explain things. PS: Also, I hope someone told you about the extra episode you have to watch before season 2. You can probably ask coach Donny where he watched it.
Kindaichi and Kunimi are Kageyama's old teammates that left him hanging Kindaichi is the onion head also the one who talked to Kageyama after the practice match and shoyo walked in on them Iwa(izumi) and Oikawa are besties since kids Iwa is the ace, kawa's the captain and um...yeah I hope this helped even just a little bit ^-^
When Kindaichi is on screen I scream "TURNIP-KUN!!!" When Ushijima is on screen I scream "MOO" When Iwa is on screen I say "Iwa-chaan~" When Yamaguchi is on screen I say "YamigoOPS" I could go on and on
Actually there are 5 OVA's (Original Video Animation, episodes that are included on the DVD/Blu-Ray that didn't air on TV). After season 1 "The Arrival of Lev!", after season 2 "Vs. "Failing Grades"", after season 3 "Special Feature! Betting on the Spring High Volleyball", before season 4 after season 3 "Land vs. Sky" and "The "Path" of the Ball". I would love if you could watch the ovas after each season :)
Fun fact: In the english translation when coach calls kags and hinata inside at the near of episode 25 he calls them lovebirds and I find this very funny
I mean literally, it's been so great, I cant wait for Vic to watch all the new teams introduced in S2. If she loves Tanaka's energy, idk I think she will probably go crazy after seeing Bokuto
Victoria: *confuses iwaizumi and kindaichi(onion head)* Victoria: You guys know me! I’m a little gooby I get things confused sometimes! Us: that’s our girl lol Tbh there are 800 characters in this show it’s nearly impossible to remember them all lmao
Okay I’ve finished the video now! I’m glad you also loved the scene of Shoyo and Kageyama running and screaming around the gym that’s one of my top five Haikyuu moments it’s so cute. The beginning of season two is gonna feel a little slow after all the tournament games! Fair warning! But we get introduced to a lot of aaaawesome new characters so there’s a lot to look forward to and I can’t wait to watch with you!
Season 1 was great at setting the characters with their ambitions, personalities and mindsets, but from season 2 and on it just becomes even greater because of the incredible character development that is shown non stop. This show is such and emotional and inspirational experience, gosh.
Quick Context: they were playing in a tournament which chooses the qualifiers for the Inter-High tournament. So for their prefecture, which is Miyagi, only one qualifier gets to go to Nationals. They lost to Aoba Johsai and then they lost to Shiratorizawa in the State Finals basically. So Shiratorizawa gets to go to Nationals representing Miyagi. Now, Karasunos goal is the Spring National Tournament which usually consists of more teams and more media attention. It is the biggest Volleyball event in Japanese high school. Probably the biggest Volleyball event in Japan excluding FIVB world cups. Same rules apply, only one team will be allowed to go to the Spring National Tournament. Which means Karasuno will have to beat Oikawa leading Aoba Johsai and Ushijima leading Shiratorizawa. Shiratorizawa is probably one of the best teams in the Nation and are common contenders at the National level. Roughly 60+ teams will make it to Nationals so it's a pretty big deal.
57:48 When the coach calls them over he just says ‘break times over’, but in the English version he says ‘break times over love birds’ and it is one of my favorite haikyuu quotes
*Sees the thumbnail All the Haikyuu Homies: “Called it” Welcome to the party! We all cry watching the eating scene. Every. Single. Time. We. Watch. It.

@@freshcupofangst Oh my gosh yesssss I watched it the first time sub and the 2nd time dubbed and the difference of that scene it wasn't as impactful. The sub says concrete the dub says parking lot lolollolol
This has been a journey, Victoria. Before I start watching I wanna say thank you for your awesome reactions and volleyball insights you've given us. Can't wait for Season 2 and beyond!
"High School" in Japan is a 3 year school, with students in their third year focusing heavily on their studies so they can get into a good school that can help prepare them for their adult lives. They can tend to take education extremely seriously there and typically, unless the students are planning on aiming for a sports scholarship or they have a good shot at something like getting to national level competition.. they tend to just stop club activities to focus on their studies. Entrance exams there can be brutal from what I've heard and it's highly competitive. You're not just trying to get a passing grade at a lot of schools, you're trying to beat out competition as well. Teachers are seriously concerned about the choices that their students make to make sure that neither they nor their parents regret those decisions. At least, that's how it's been described to me from a few friends I have over there.
Girl don't be so hard on yourself when you mess something up! I'm positive none of us find you annoying, like, EVER. When you get confused it just makes me smile and I know you will get it a sec later or when you read the comments! 😊 Keep up the awesomeness! 💖
I'm so glad you see how well rounded of a player Tanaka is!! He's so talented and I think the KageHina quick attack kind of distracts a lot of people from seeing how good he is. Also just wanna say how nice it is to see you feel the impact emotionally that Haikyuu!! works to achieve. There's so much to learn with these characters, and your added insight is so nice to hear❤❤
Victoria talking about her view about the Oikawa scene is so wholesome I wish twitter had the same energy when they cancel characters over the most stupid things
Some spoiler-free teasers for season two~ “Hey, hey hey!!!” “Oya?” “Oya oya?” “Oya oya oya?” “And then, poor Kenma was all like-UHEEEYYY, OH HELL NO BOKUTO, YOU DO NOT GET ALL OF THE MEAT YOU SON OF A B-“ ;)
You should really consider using headphones while watching, the soundtrack of Haikyuu is one of the best anime-ost ever and you will get more immersed!
That baby Kageyama 🥺 I just remember an official art (or fanart?) where he's with his former teammates Kindaichi and Kunimi, along with Oikawa and Iwaizumi... and Kageyama is such a baby, holding on Oikawa's jacket like he's scared of taking a picture 🥺
I love how Max's sneeze filled in for Tsuki's most definite lack of enthusiasm when the rest of the team was hyped for the next season/tournament at the end of the reaction
VICTORIA!!!!! YOU FINISHED SO1 🥳 IT WAS HEART BREAKING IK BUT YOU WILL LOVE SEASON 2 KEEP GOING GIRL. AND UR AND COACH DONNY TOP 5 HAIKYUU MOMENT OF SO1 WAS AMAZING.
Okay so I think we all knew this would cause confusion because I don't think many of us knew about this at first, but the college acceptance process is rather different in Japan and much more grade based. Here in the US you can totally get by with just okay grades when you also do sports and extracurricular activities because your acceptance is based on how you are when you apply. In Japan however high grades are essential to get into a good college, and it's best to go to college right after high school. And instead of just submitting a portfolio like we do here college applicants also have to take and pass an entry exam for the university, which can only be taken ONCE per year. It is not easy and there actually classes many students take outside of school to prepare for it. Generally, if you fail the entrance exams you're screwed, so third years (seniors- high school in Japan is only 3 years) are encouraged to drop things like sports after the first semester so that they can focus solely on studying . While it is a harsh approach when you take everything into account it's an understandable stance.
On the same note, high school sports is often a highlight their sports career, since not many end up doing competitive college sports. So you’ll see many of these major National high school sports tournament be as big as March Madness (Koushien for Baseball). Most of the time, the seniors “retire” before the spring tournament, in preparation for entrance exams. So many high school sports teams are primarily 1st and 2nd years high schoolers (10th and 11th grade) in that spring tournament. (Based on the various sports and side of life anime/manga I’ve read/watched).
@@andreaprochowski4717 yes! to Daiya no Ace, but also stuff like Cross Game (another older baseball manga/anime, but a bit slower paced), Baby Steps (for Tennis, not Prince of Tennis), and Smash! for Badminton
I’m so excited for you to watch season 2. They grew so much in season 1 but they grow even more in season 2 and really become great and reach their potential, it’s amazing.
Hey, one thing that u should know is that animes usually have some episodes called "OVAS", that either they are canon and have sorta fanservice to entertain, or they are from the real storyline. Haikyuu has a few of those. There's also a Haikyuu movie, which is basically a compilation of episodes, with some really short extra scenes (around 1 min). Here are some of those that you should definitely check: 1) Dateko's Loss ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BvgWFIwsf6w.html 2) Asahi and Nishinoya ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sK0DNYNjir4.html 3) Young Kuroo and Kenma (You said that u miss kenma soo) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3d-XDEDELOQ.html 4) Kageyama and Oikawa ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_5hktE5RP5U.html
I feel the Nekoma qualifer OVA is the only one really important to watch, the others are alright but that one is plot important. Also gives us more Kenma and heyheyhey so what's not to love?
I don't come here for bubbly Vic, I come here to watch her call Tanaka Takonga or Oikawa Iwa. Seriously though this is an emotional series at times to don't sweat it if a scene brings out the sad, we're here for that too. Hell, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say those scenes broke us too. Vic started reacting just as I had finished watching season 4 and rewatching some scenes on youtube, so thank god the algorithm brought her to my feed right from the start. Here's to season 2 and beyond 🥳🎉
Eat....Eat....But, surely, Get stronger. (The feels....) That last scene in EP24, the overall atmosphere, the bgm, the lines. It was heartbreaking 💔. But, at the same time it also made me hungry (the way they were eating while crying made the food look more delicious than usual haha). But, don't worry, its not over yet (ain't spoilin' anything). 飛べ (FLY!!) KARASUNO & NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Finally, its time for Season 2 reactions!!! can't wait
for third years, their last year is basically just them preparing for the ONE college exam that basically decides your academic future (unlike the U.S. where college admissions is holistic) so studying is really important, which is why third years in animes always have this super hard decision. AND it's their last year playing so the stakes are high.
Old Victoria: Wai- why are you so sad? Victoria: beacuse they're crying eating, and they do soy much about that game... Old Victoria: But they're strong, they'll get over it! Victoria: YES, THATS WHY IM CRYING
Guide for Seijoh's team Oikawa: setter, captain, "k-pop idol" lol Iwaizumi: spiker, angry but very supportive and reliable to his team, Oikawa's friend from childhood, has dark brown, spiky hair Kindaichi: the one they call "onion head", first year middle blocker, was on Kageyama's team in middle school when Kags was "king of the court" Kunimi: middleparted black hair, was also on Kageyama's team in middleschool, used to be kind of lazy and didn't bother running after the ball Watari: libero Hanamaki: third year, spiker, short kind of pink-ish hair Matsukawa: third year, middle blocker, dark curly-ish hair
Sharing tears with a team that doesnt exists in real life is such a wonderful thing to do, it shows you that life is more complicated that how it seems and im glad you got the chance to experience that, and thank you for giving me the chance to experience it again too ♥️ love you victoria ill be looking forward to next season's reaction so harddd ✨
To clarify why the school counselor asked the third years to quit volleyball after Summer Interhigh qualifiers, it's because they need to focus on the university entrance exam. Only two types of third years would decide to stay on their respective teams: 1. The ones so good that they continue to play in university and possibly get a scholarship for this. I would say only Oikawa and Ushiwaka fit this category. 2. The ones on the team that have a good chance to qualify for the Spring Nationals. Pretty much only those on Seijoh and Shiratorizawa can make this claim. Even the third years on Date Tech quit after their loss to Karasuno. The Karasuno players are really a long shot, but they love playing so much that they're willing to take a chance. Suga and Daichi are pretty smart, so they think they can handle it, and Asahi has no intention to attend university, so in their minds, they made the right choice to stay. In season 2, we will have some level up like in season 1, and then will proceed to Spring Nationals qualifiers. And we will be introduced to some more awesome characters. 😂
Ok now I AM READY FOR THE CAMP!! Honestly, the 2nd season is what made me into a real hard-core fan and involved in the fandom. I can't wait for you to see it.
