About the “what you do in high school has nothing to do with your future”, it’s definitely true, but in Japan the uni entrance exams taken at the end of high school are really a bid deal, cus they are essential to get into a good uni (as long as I know Japan as a whole basically closes and stops everything when they happen to do not disturb the students) so the actual issue with the third years was just being able to do good in those exams, since volleyball practice steals them a whole lot time during the day, they can’t study as much as other third years who dropped their respective clubs

This is the moment the series truly starts. It gives me shivers. The whole first season acts as an introduction and build up to make you want the win with them. The fucking pacing and writing. So damn good.

There are two tournaments in Japanese high school, a fall and a spring tournament that goes to nationals. In japan they're *really* goddamn intense about school work so unless your school is really really good the seniors retire to focus on getting into college. Even Date Tech's third years retired after losing to Karasuno for reference

Fun fact: Only way to win a volleyball match is by a lead of two points or more, that’s why deuce is such a nightmare (tennis also has the same rule). Also, the effect of putting Hisoka’s tattoos on Oikawa’s face and playing his theme almost killed me lmfao 🤣 I was screaming. And yes, that feeling of defeat is so strong. I played tennis all four years of high school and I remember the year we went to All Conference tournament and I worked so hard to get my spot on the team. It hurt so bad to lose in my last match of the tournament but I also felt accomplished because I knew I did my best. It’s hard to juggle those feelings and I think it would just be that much harder for the teams that actually play with more people on the court at a time. I only played one-on-ones so I never knew that feeling of having a teammate during tourneys. I feel like I missed out in that regard.

Rewatching this series through reactions is always so much fun. It's like living through it all over again. It also always makes me miss the old art style and animation. But omg, the story is just so consistently solid.

This show is so good cause it makes you feel so good for the team that one and SO BAD for the team that lost no matter who it is, you see one team celebrating and you get all happy and then it cuts to the other team sobbing and you’re right there with them Edit: I can’t handle the sad eating

Let’s just all remember that Karasuno’s full roster was made after a few weeks or months and already matched up to one of the powerhouse schools

Man whoever edits these videos does a real lovely job. The few times the ball went out of frame and into the camera looked like it could've from the anime itself. Amazing job. Also really enjoy how everyone got hyped for the boys and their game.

Failure is your greatest teacher. Karasuno learned that. Losing often teaches you more than your wins. Season 1 got across that frustration and sadness that they felt from their loss to us as the audience. And builds the foundation for what comes next. They needed this loss to grow stronger to compete at a higher level. And Lupa's saltiness is hilarious. Understandable and hilarious.

This wasnt the prelims for nationals, it was basically just an interhigh competition.

Long rallies into around high 30s on match point are so insane to watch. I had one game my 2nd year club ball where we went down in the first set and the second set we won 38-36. Then sadly we lost in the third:/ but during that second set, you have no idea what kind of mental and physical strength it takes to keep going. Episode 24 I felt like showed that exhaustion really well. Especially because it was 1-1 going into the third set lol

Haikyuu focuses on all characters and their development throughout the entirety of the show. At some points they might focus on one team more than others but they all get their fair share of screen time and background stories. That’s why all teams are supported by all of the fandom and none are hated on. Actually I don’t think theres a character that’s hated on by the fandom as a whole.

Episode 24 This episode did a great job of capturing the intense emotions of competition and how sudden that can change to an emotional drop-off after a defeat. Kageyama and Hinata’s conversation with Takeda were especially poignant. It’s a quiet scene that lets the sincerity of the moment sink into the audience. "The wide shot of the Takeda conversation" The wide shot gives us a look at the contrasting body language of the characters. Kageyama and Hinata are slumping on the ground sulking while Takeda is standing straight up with a look of poise. It’s an image of difference in maturity that communicates Takeda’s role as a mentor and advisor. Also, notice the large amount of negative space between the characters and above them. This plays into quietness of the scene and its contemplative nature. This wide shot lingers a bit longer than usual. The longer take allows the audience to absorb the brief pauses where Kageyama and Hinata are lost for words. This is a subdued moment of two young men wordless in their moroseness taking in the words of wisdom of someone they respect

I started watching real volleyball after watching and reading this anime. This show is super accurate with all the strategy and evetyhring else

So I presume you gunna watch the other seasons. But you should check out more sports anime: Kuriko no Basket is one I think youll enjoy. Its got 3 seasons as well. Not as good as Haikyu in my opinion and its abit more over the top then Haikyu but is defiantly up there in a terms of animation and hype factor. Also really enjoying these edits. Keep it up ;)
