How to use a Haimer to measure Tool Length Offset (TLO). To my knoweldge the Heidenhain control doesn't have a "Measure" or "Calibrate" function (I'm sure it must, let me know in the comments!) so this is the quickest and most accurate way for us to proceed.

Great to see a youtube channel like this based in the UK. Everyone loves our American friends but its really nice to see a video like this that does not mention "Thou" "Two tenths?!?" "3/4inch reamer etc" "Harbour freight" "Home deepo" etc. Also I noticed you didn't say "Awesome" a single time! And all in Metric! Not a single ridiculous illogical unit in sight. Thanks a lot, I will be a regular watcher...

Thanks so much! I've videos out (most) Fridays so comment like this keep me motivated! I love the NYCCNC channel, Abom69 etc, super experienced guys but all the talk of inch, thou, is just another thing to think about for someone who's used to metric. At least NYCCNC are putting metric feedrate overlays on their vids now though. Cheers!

I get into quite a few arguments with americans about the metric/imperial thing. One thing that makes no sense is the imperial way of doing threading cycles, rather than thread pitch, they do threads per inch! Makes no sense at all.

I guess it's just what you're used to, a lot of those guys will be 100 times the machinist I'll ever be, but for me, remembering decimal equivalents of fractions is just another thing to think about and I've only got a limited amount of brain space!

+FutureFab CNC & 3D Printing On the controller keypad under the '.' and next to the 'Q' is a button that looks like a big plus sign made of 4 arrows pointing inwards. That will auto set tool length. So you have the known length of your 3D Taster (compressed to 0) set in Tool 0 (important) and 0 your datum off a surface. Then you bring down and use the paper method on the same surface with the tool you wish to set. Then go into tool table, select tool, turn editing on, press the right arrow key to highlight Length than press the afore mentioned 'large plus arrow button thingy'. That will auto set your tool legth offset based on your known tool length in tool 0 and the datum. Im only am apprentice so absolve myself of all liability if you crash it lol.

That series controller is it I know the tnc 151 has it which would suggest they carried it over with the later controls on the 151 it's an odd looking button that has a dot in the middle with 4 lines forming a ( + ) I'll get a photo if it helps

Great vid but I don't see why you really need to measure the Haimer so accurately ? 170mm would be ok. If you always reference other tools to it then the offsets will be correct ?
