Tormach just did a video on this too.
• How To Calibrate Your ...
l0ckcr4ck3r did a great video on the Haimer Zero Master here.... • Rezeroing a Zero Master
He does a much better job at explaining why it needs to be done. I'm doing this to help show the differences with the Taster and share my process. I'm not an expert at this by any stretch of the imagination, but I break more tips than most people. lol!! I had to come up with a method that made this faster for me. I hope it helps! :)

Very timely video Mike. I "squished" a Haimer, but all survived, including the tip. The probe seems to work properly, but I'm for sure following your instruction on how to test and align it. Thank you

I hope it helps. :) If you have the more square design, make sure you check out lockcracker's vid.....it's slightly different. You're more than welcome Kent. Thanks! Mike

Hi Mike, so, two days ago I was saying "Who breaks a Haimer probe?" to someone... well, one year later, that someone is me. Hubris of man. The tips are apparently so popular that Amazon has them available by Prime. :) Also, I got notice of your Ball Joint vid, but when I came back to watch this video, I find that I'm unsubscribed. I've had that with a couple other channels recently. RU-vid seems to have a lot of bugs.

Amazing video coming from a young woman starting her engineering career. I need to use of these on my Hurco conversational miller and have been unable to find a video where someone explains exactly what they’re doing and show how to do it in real time. Amazing video you’ve made me excited to go back to work 😄

Wow! I'm super happy to hear that. :) Did you watch the two vids I linked in the description box? I watched those to learn how and then did it over and over again for a couple of hours to get where I could do it for the camera. Good luck with your engineering career!! If I were do do things over again, I think I'd become a mechanical engineer. I subbed your channel just in case you decide to do some videos about your journey or any of your work. :) -Mike

Thank you. I was concerned on mine that in order to get all four screws snugged up so it would stay calibrated that I was over torquing some of them. Nice to see I'm not doing it wrong - assuming of course that you aren't also doing it wrong. :-)
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 7 лет назад
LOL......I could be. I got the info/process from another guy. They don't need to be gorilla tight, but they seem to get that way pretty easily sometimes. You just have to realize that you're getting a bit too snug and loosen the other side before you get too tight. It's real easy to want to just tweak it that last little bit and then you find yourself too tight. Mike
@David_Best
@David_Best 7 лет назад
No kidding on the "last little bit" part. So tempting to dial out the last couple 10ths, and then the whole thing goes wonky and you have to start over. The thing needs a button you press and it self calibrates. LOL
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 7 лет назад
A one button calibrate would be awesome!! Probably cost as much as a Renishaw probe then.

You're more than welcome! Sorry to hear that.........and welcome to the club. :( lol!!! :) I've crashed/dropped mine a few times and it still seems to work okay after I adjust it....hopefully, yours will too.
@stizzit
@stizzit 6 лет назад
bluehandsvideo so it turns out there wasn't enough adjustment. I think I marred or deformed the ball/socket connection. I can get it within 0.005" of zero but not zero. I ordered another one as I need something I can trust. Should I mount this on the wall of shame?
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 6 лет назад
I would try it again, actually. There's a really small window of adjustment. I thought mine was hosed.....had to take a second shot at it to get it into the sweet spot. It's been awhile, so I don't recall the details, I just remember that I couldn't adjust it far enough the first time.....had to come at it again. You can take the front bezel off....the gauge comes out. You've already given up on it, so you can't actually hurt it any more. If still no go.....send/loan it to me for a bit.....I'll pull it apart and take some vid of the guts. :) ......then send it back. But.....take another crack at it first....I'll bet you can get it working again.
@stizzit
@stizzit 6 лет назад
Well I removed the gauge from the body and then removed the o-ring. I then can manually slide the gauge up and down same as the grub screws would do. Even all the way down, metal against metal - it still wouldn't zero out.

The the dial turns, how do you know 0 is sitting inline at 12 o’clock with the haimer shank, when I bought mine it was out 1 maybe 2/100ths of a mm, I just turned the dial lol is that wrong
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 5 лет назад
Hmmm....great question. I'm not exactly sure, but I would think that you'd want the dial straight up. I don't remember my dial turning. I can't seem to find it right now, but I remember seeing a vid where the face was taken off. If you can find that one, it might better answer your question. Thanks!!

Hi Mike, Aaron here from Orchard Ave (Off Towle). Long time, hope all is well. Just pulled the trigger on a Tormach PCNC 440. Ordered the Hamier too. Looking forward to picking your brain on some speeds and feeds. Cheers Aaron

Howdy Aaron!!!! I was just wondering about you the other day. Great to hear from you!! Congrats on the new equipment. Are you still going to run the router? I don't think I've ever seen the aluminum one finished. Make sure to look up Tom/Inspiration Metalworks ru-vid.com/show-UCoNrGYb-HzTvTJIWY5mixIw John/nyccnc channels ru-vid.com/show-UCe0IyK4ntgdPTTjsxjvyHPg Robert/robertcowan ru-vid.com/show-UCPOTPYuDsKnXP9I-ph4yMgg ....they're all putting out vids on the 440. you should still have my email and phone. :) I'll be making chips all day if you want to drop by.

I think you shouldn`t touch those screws. If the needle is not at zero, you just turn the dial to zero it. Only screws you should mess with is the four screws on top radial to the spindle axis. And those only if the probe tip is not running true when you spin the haimer 360˚
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 3 года назад
There are other videos out there of the same thing being done. It is the way to do it.......but feel free to spend $500 on one, knock it off zero and then post video of how to do it....then come back and post a link here. I'll even pin it or put it in the description box. :)

Nice video. How about using 2 wrenches opposing each other at the same time? It works very well on a 4 jaw.
@bluehandsvideo
@bluehandsvideo 6 лет назад
Thanks! I haven't tried it. The spindle turns really easily, so two might cause it to twist.....not sure. By all means....if you're comfortable doing it, do it. :) I'm not sure I've got the brain power to do two at once! LOL

It will be good experience learning to dial it in, in case it happens again, but that's a bit disappointing that it came in that way.

Mine was off a hair. I wasnt bothered. I was looking at disassembling the top to make a custom tool holder before receiving it. Fortunately boring the tool holder to 10mm solved any and all of my issues.
