A collection of pieces I recorded in the early hours and the afternoon heat of Hydra, Greece. A reflection on leaving spaces unfilled.

I got the SK1 as a gift when i was about 11. My first sampler and as a kid would i sampled my farts into it. My first keyboard was the PT101 when i was 6.

Not going to lie, I sampled farts as well. The 90s were good times

I got mine when I was about 13ish? Tried to learn to play piano, got frustrated, gave up. Eventually (sort of learned) 5-6 years later. Still have it.

Always loved the concept of a one instrument album. Constraint sometimes forces us to look for new paths. This is well achieved here (as often in your case). Congrats !

This is pretty wonderful!. Really nice work. Back in the 80s high school days, if you had an SK1 you were THE coolest kid in school!. I had no idea how to sample till someone showed up with one of these. You've created something really special with old and new tech ☺🙏🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵🎵

A truly fascinating experience! The album works well to transport the listener to a new space for a time. The textures are an interesting mix of tranquil, solemn, and spontaneously joyful. Excellent work, good sir!

Amusingly, I still have a small selection of my original “Sampling” keyboards sequestered about the house and attic, in cupboards and buried under boxes of old 12”s etc. I jest not, but as I write this very comment whilst laying on the bed in the spare bedroom, beneath me underneath the bed sits my old Casio SK2100. I have not attempted to switch it on in decades, but I will never part with it. The early 90s twiddlings I learnt to coax out of it back then were lamentable, but these things carry a certain amount of sentimental value, so under the bed it’ll stay! 🎹

I bought an SK1 in 1986 and deeply regret selling it a boot sale for about £20 a few years later. The late great Philip Jeck used one in his live shows.

P.S. Falls du mal nen Flohmarkt machen solltest ;) #s

Was this performed live, or where any backing tracks involved (not that it matters). I'm convinced that you could be handed a garbage can lid and a piece of twine and still coac some great music out of it! Very creative and imaginative! And having listened o the whole album in one sitting, it was an enjoyable experience!

I came here to ask you a very important question for me, because this is your latest video, in the hopes you might see it. The QUESTION is this: Delays usually extend a sound in Time, BUT can delays do the opposite in very fast speeds, reducing the natural decay of the envelope of a plucked Guitar string? I have two envelope followers: The EHX ATTACK DECAY and the PIGTRONIX PHILOSOPHER KING but their fastest setting for staccato notes isn't plucky enough. I am building a new pedalboard now, and looking at my notes I remembered that the DREADBOX KOMOREBI at very high speeds and feedback, creates a very resonant pluck, is it possible that this pluck has a reduced envelope as well? I can't be sure, my memory might be tricking me. It's was too subtle. But if that IS the case, I could maybe search for something with even faster resonant delay times.
@Hainbach
@Hainbach 10 месяцев назад
If you have very short delay times, it will self oscillate and sound like a new plucky instrument. Look into Karplus Strong. I have a video on that technique half filmed, will be out in January
@MYGAS21
@MYGAS21 10 месяцев назад
@@Hainbach Yes the Karplus Strong delay was the one I was implying when I wrote about a faster resonant delay. The DREADBOX ANTIDOTE is first on my wish list. But do you think -never mind the alteration of the timbre - it will have a faster decay? Because if it does, it's kinda interesting don't you think? ....That delay can be used to contract the envelope of a sound? (By the way I enjoy the synchronicity of you doing a Karplus Strong video, I am looking forward to watch it. If you haven't yet, maybe you can research this issue)
@MYGAS21
@MYGAS21 10 месяцев назад
@@Hainbach Now that I thought about it ....there will probably be an alteration in pitch, right? Can the pitch be retained AND the decay shorten, with the Karplus Strong algorithm? ...OR Will it be wacky like with ring modulation?
