Bravo.......spring speaker.....what yr. .?.....the other one I heard....was self tuning.....running electrity through the cord to tune the frequency or tone.......cheers......next time check the tone and show .....
It's always challenging to create these types of things DIY style. I've tried and been less successful than I'd expected / hoped in the past, too. You really notice how small details about the composition of the resonating pieces really makes a big difference.
At first I was surprised, and then... not surprised by the fact that Hainbach is completely surrounded an insane collection of electronic audio gear and somehow doesn't have a single standard loudspeaker amplifier
I know the father and son creators of these speakers (father Weber Rehde has unfortunately passed away) and you have the small model of these reverberant speakers.. they were sold in pairs to accompany the hifi speakers in their range and give a powerful effect. concert hall. they were limited in power and reverberation length by an electronic box
I bet if you put a coincident pair of mics right in close to the speaker you could capture the reverb in stereo too. A plugin version should include a stereo option.
Your prononciation for "Ondes Martenot" was good, Hainbach. I' m French and I understand it, with your accent obvioulsy, but the "on" in "ondes", the tough part, is good.
Hey don't dump on traditional spring reverb. It's great for one-shots, like getting a crazy splash on a snare drum. It's all over kraftwerk's remix album.
Hainbach, since the speaker has no controls or parameters of itself, would you perhaps be willing to make a small impulse response pack? A plugin would be great but maybe this could be a nice little freebie?
The fun is in seeing how to take it further- with gong amp we added treatments and modulations that made more than the original. And we have a freebie coming very soon 😃
@@Hainbach Ooh, exciting! Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean one or the other, a plugin would definitely be great! Selfishly I just would love IRs as well, haha
Re: the springs Grab yourself a set of suitable springs, and an appropriate mathematician, and then pair those springs to a matching speaker… …not forgetting the frame 😆
Funny how many people are like “I NEED a plug-in”.. isn’t that the whole reason people look for these videos and find this hardware interesting? Your laptop cannot truly reproduce the effects of this type of speaker, let alone this specific speaker.. things in the real world vary unit to unit and that should be embraced for what it is.. or just stay inside your digital laptop world 🤷♂️ It shouldn’t be too hard to just use hardware and computer in tandem to each of their strengths.
Plug-ins are great. I hope you do that. Sadly (not really), I don't use a DAW. I would be much more interested to know what the secret of the springs is and why it can't be currently reproduced for the analog world.
why won't any brass spring the right size work? are those a special alloy or? seems like any metal that can carry a sound wave should work...a bunch of guitar strings very close to each other might work
Apparently the Onde community has been trying to recreate it, but the springs make it difficult as they are no longer available. They are not brass but a different alloy apparently.
Excellent demo! This is so unique. I'm realizing this is so different from that. It's all physical and analog and it's actually adding to the timbre/resonance rather than creating a reverb signal. I had no idea this existed. Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
