Just started using old school hair tonics. Have tried Jeris, Vitalis, and Clubman. Could be premature but, while all are keepers Clubman actually works best for me. Family connection to Vitalis, wonderful stuff. A shave with a 1960 Fatboy razor, Old Spice aftershave along with Vitalis in the hair. For me , one of life's simple pleasures.
I hope to review the Clubman (original) hair tonic in a few weeks! The simple pleasures are often the best. Its pretty awesome that you have a family connection to Vitalis!
The so called “old school “ stuff is always best for me. Use Vitalis, Brylcreem, and Clubman in my hair tonic rotation. I definitely mean to try Jeris. Use Aqua Velva musk, ice blue AV, Brut, and Clubman Original in my current Aftershave rotation. Mixing AV Musk with Brut seems to get me the most compliments Not sure why that is. Planting to add more classical products to both rotations. Thanks. Best Mens Grooming Channel on RU-vid.
Ive been using the oil free Jerris for about a year...I put some in a small travel size spray bottle and apply after i shampoo my hair and then apply some spritz of Garnier hair thickener spray for control..I let my hair dry naturally usually and style after my hair dries...I dont need to use any conditioner after shampooing the Jerris works perfect.
I used Jeris before the weekly personnel inspection when i was in the USMC. When the haircut was marginal and to avoid a zinger from the Officer inspecting, I'd put Jeris on liberally around the ears. Inspecting officer would notice hair growing close to the ears but the scent smelled like i jumped right out of the barber chair. Since it smelled like a fresh haircut, Id get the pass.
If you use product in your hair, hair tonics like Jeris can make them more usable. I use a combo of Jeris, then hair gel, and it tends to give me the same hold with out a "wet look". As with everything, YMMV.
@@classicalgroomingI rather like hair gels. As with anything else out there, you use just a small application and you'll fo alright. Hair gels will hold your hair in place real nice and depends on you if you want to reactivate that hold by combing your hair with water of just combing your hair and letting it go from there on end, as it will work either way, yet your hair won't look greesy. Hair gels are a much cleaner way to comb nd care for your hair.
I’ve been using Jeris without oil and also tried Jeris with oil, I had to pop open the top and remove some or most of the oil and pour back again, it was just to much. The product best for me is Lucky Tiger 3 in 1
It's a pretty good tonic, but like most of these products (Vitalis, etc), a company basically just owns the rights to the name. People aren't actually using the "classic" tonic or using the same formulation that people in the 50s were using. The ingredients are completely different from the original. For example: the ingredients in the classic version of the tonic were: 8- Hydroxyquinoline, Resorcinol Monoacetate, Tincture of Capsicum, Fixed and Volatile Oils, Ethyl-alcohol. The version that exists now which uses the Jeris name contains alcohol, glycerin and boric acid. I wish that Clubman would make a version that is closer to the reality of what the original contained. The main reason I seek out classic products in the first place is due to my belief that many classic drugstore formulations and remedies work better than those with trendy modern ingredients.
I would agree. Another example: Lucky Tiger hair tonic on the front advertises being made from "fine oils", while the listed ingredients has none. It's unfortunate to a degree, but I find the products still useful, and sharing a sense of history is important. Thank you for your great observations and being a part of the channel!
