Haha, this is gold. I'm a red bearded guy who's relying upon my wife for haircuts during covid days... I'm going to dog the boys here and side with your wife! Patience is key to a semi-reasonable hair cut. Let them do their thing on their timeline. The end result is worth the wait! My wife has "good scissors" but I get the rough looking set I'm sure she's used to open tins of paint... They work more like vice grips than cutting implements! I'm pretty sure a cut and colour is around $200-ish. I semi regularly grab couple of hundred dollar gift vouchers at her favourite salon to give a guilt free experience. I have no idea of the actual price, so I just guess around the mark. The brownie points are generally cashed in at BCF 👌

That ending was hilarious. My wife and I got married last September and I remember thinking nothing much of what she was planning until a few days before and she mentioned the cost of her hair/make up people. Was in shock to say the least... was probably better I never found out haha. Her and her bridesmaids were all beautifully done up though but I figure they'd have looked beautiful regardless.

I trained as a female hairdresser for 2 years but didn’t continue it, didn’t enjoy doing it enough. I then self taught myself how to cut men’s hair and every month for the last 8 years I’ve cut my partners hair and shaped his beard and moustache. I love doing it, it’s like a bonding session between us and saves us money. I’ve also cut and dyed my own hair the last 11 years and has saved me more money than I can imagine

I love that my husband uses a 2 on his clippers all over his head. No fades, keeps it really short. Easy peasy. He does it himself but I could step in if needed.

Amazing video as always, I know speak for many we would love to see more of you Beau. If it even be just trivial bite size chunks of your life. Could you do a short weekly not vlog but "happenings" bit for a month? That would be pretty epic, to key us into one tiny aspect or project. If it even be small stuff such as the haircut avoidance bought lawnmower cutting the grass and mumblings or going through the shed tour. That would be neat I would watch that.

I feel you, Beau. I hate going to the hairdresser. Sitting still and trying to small talk whilst someone concentrates intensely on me for twenty minutes is a crucible of pain. So I bought a hair clipper and practised _on myself_ until I could use it semi-decently. Went around with a mostly-shaved head for the first few months while I learned. I'm still not fantastic at it, but if I could handle walking around with a scrappy buzzcut for months as a girl, I can handle anything my clippers can do to me now. :)

Oh thank you Beau -- both because I'm a fellow haircutter disliker for all the same reasons but also been in a bit of a rut with the ol' creativity (started my RU-vid channel a few months ago) and this was a spark of inspiration for good-storytelling and finding magic in the mundane. I agree with Beau-haircuts can be annoying as you have to sit still for so long. A friendly/talkative barber makes the experience worthwhile.

40+ years ago took one electric shaver, never looked back...complete cut everything.Takes sometime to back to the length. Saved a lot same as you,no regrets.

The hairdresser may be worried that this checking up on cost is some sort of spousal abuse / stalking. If you ask how much haircuts at the establishment typically cost that's one thing, but what you're asking for is probably legally protected PII (would be in the US).

What a time to be alive I am seeing a man get a haircut from his wife in Australia while I am sleeping on my bed in India. Truly a miracle

Been cutting my own hair for years (including a trimmed beard), I currently use a Phillips 9-1 trimer. It's a very quick and efficient process that you do while standing (no sitting involved) in front of a mirror over a basin (using a bin to catch most of the offcuts). 9 mm on the back and sides, 16 mm on the top, then the beard trimmer set at 5 mm. A quick clean of the basin area and a quick shower afterward and you are good to go.

Geee, you have a mighty mane on the top of your head Beau. It looks great. I used to have too, but the last 10 years, it got somewhat less😔 Helen did a mighty good job there!!!

To Helen.The clippers come with attachments ( combs I think there called )in a range of sizes , pick 2 .The smaller for the side and back.The larger everywhere else. I'm looking forward to you breaking the 3 minute haircut..A shearer typically removes a fleece, without significantly marking or cutting the sheep, in two to three minutes.
