Wow, I can't believe I recognize a sample: 41:20, that little 'meowing' sound you hear in the background. That's from A SIlver Mt Zion, off the album "He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corner Of Our Rooms", the song title is "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed". A Silver Mt Zion is a Godspeed side project, so if you like post rock I 100% recommend you check them out.

Months later: I still like this album a great deal. It's like the ghosts of childhood memories floating about, tinted by nostalgia in your head. Not exactly idealistic, but sometimes they really do feel like the halcyon days.

It remains perhaps one of the most intensely sad and nostalgic albums I have ever listened to. It is the ideal accompaniment when one wants to grieve, remembering a person, a love lost forever. Is it OK not to be OK? This music would prove me right.

Just because it's not slowed down r&b doesn't mean it's not vaporwave. Haircuts for men IS a vaporwave artist, just not everything may sound exactly like your typical vaporwave.

you can't just ignore every stylistic element from a genre and claim it still belongs to that genre. haircuts for men lean way more towards acid jazz and trip-hop than it does vaporwave. it doesn't evoke the same feelings of nostalgia, it doesn't utilize the same melodic functions and it certainly doesn't paint a picture of the 80s that doesn't have any real antecedent. i mean it's fucking good music, better than anything ever labelled vaporwave, but vaporwave it ain't.
