Not easy to perform Haj back in the old days especially when you have to travel from faraway lands such as Indonesia and Malaysia, but the rewards are greater insyaAllah for the pilgrims

slightly disagree. back then boats were metal at that point so you just slept in a room for a month or so and landed in jeddah. that's not super difficult compared to african brothers who had to travel across africa through egypt or through a port in east africa. i boat trip wouldn't cost a fortune either since one large boat could fit thousands of people

In the past, Indonesian Muslims who were about to go to perform hajj held a big gathering to bid a goodbye with their loved ones, relatives, and neighbors. It's because the trip was utterly arduous, it takes months to go and back, to the point that they didn't even know they're going to be back to the homeland or not 😢 it was indeed a difficult time. Because of the huge amount of effort and sacrifices, people who did hajj was well-respected by the community, that afterwards their status will be increased and they will be regarded as an imam/a teacher. May Allah allow all of us to perform hajj in the best manner and be a true Muslim who earns paradise. Aameen

For those that were confused about the burial at sea, the journey by ship was over three weeks and the death was on the ship. In Islam, we bury our dead quickly, and if a person dies at sea and it is not possible to bring the body back to land before decay, or if burial at land becomes impossible, burial at sea is allowed.

Those were the days! - When it was a big chance that they may not come back. - When the journey itself was much longer than the Hajj pilgrimage. - When the term 'Hajji' meant so much more. Now we can just get a plane ticket. And the ride is now shorter than the Hajj itself. Not that it means any less at all now, but we should look at those in the past with awe.

Muslims in the past, especially in africa where maliki jurisprudence is widely followed, they had to start the voyage to Hajj if they can walk and move. That's it ! So poor ones just starts the trip even if they don't have any money. But they stop on the way to work a bit and earn some to spend it the days they were traveling. A lot will take them years to accomplish the Hajj. There are stories of families moving with kids to hajj and throughout the voyage kids became adults. May allah accept from them ameen.

They say that the Hajj is your personal 'fight' due to how difficult it can be. Makes you wonder what it was like before the 1920's! Nowadays it is more of a business with luxurious packages offered to those who can afford it, moving away from the original meaning for the Hajj. Personally, I think it should be the same for all, no matter how deep your pockets are.

People did hajj back in them days and was certified as Haji that was like a tremendous accomplishment and achievement. Nowadays haji doesn’t mean the same. Firstly the effort they had to endure was tremendous, for that reason alone hajj was no joke ,people meant it and went back sinless and died as haji on the gravestone 😢 My Allah will give them that the lofty place in Janna,Ameen

Assalamualaikum. Thanks for sharing this. I made Hajj in 1997. The area around the Haram, has been built-up (e.g. giant clock tower, huge shopping malls, etc. ). I hope to make Hajj again, before I die, insha'Allah!🤲🏽❤️☝🏽🕋

Masya Allah.. Allahu Akbar! Those who go haj are truly blessed; and in the past, their efforts and sacrifices were even greater. Btw, I saw at least one Indonesian man in the ship where the deceased was taken care of. It is because of his 'kopiah' or Indonesian fez. It must be double harder for Indonesian people to go haj in 1928, where we were still colonized by the Dutch.

we are so far away from saudi arabia. back then people went to hajj by ship, which takes three months. so they have to save money for the hajj and for the three months trip on the ship. they have to cook food for the three months by themselves while on the ship. may Allah accept their hajj

This is the SUNNAH that muslim should follow . To do haj you should follow what the prophet doing and feel what the prophet feeled . Not like today . The new generation had thrown away the sunnah .

Everyone you see in this video has returned back to Allāh and are most likely forgotten. Our life is so short, we have to turn to our Lord and follow the Sunnah of our messenger (peace be upon him) even if the people go against us.

A time will come (Now a days), there will be three type of people comming for Pilgrimage, 1. Doing Business of pilgrimage. 2. Tourist of Hajj, doing hoteling eating and shopping 3. Doing their own publicity with Hajj Sayings Imam Ali 1400 years ago. History of Islam.

Subhanallah. Life has become so much comfortable since. But even now, you will find pilgrims who save all their life for hajj and are so poor they live in squalid apartments and walk 5km five times a day to pray at the haram. May god accept them.

Those were not bedoins living outside of Makkah. Those were pilgrims that never left but they are illegal so they had to live in horrible conditions and survive somehow.

Good thing to hide their faces so we won’t know who they are! This is close to 100 years ago and I doubt if even one person in this video is still alive.

What a difference this is truly difficult- sad to say I was watching the pilgrims this morning and unfortunately saw a lot of them on I. There phones taking selfies etc - this is a disconnect from the true meaning and reason to be there - there should be only be allah as your focus when you are at haj - that said I still say Allah bless them at least they are there amen
