@@AlligatorAli exactly. Dude is a genius in boxing but he's still a huge dumbass. When he tried it I couldn't breathe laughing so hard. Then he went and had to turn his whole body and I was on the floor.
In the manga, a bit later in the story, Sawamura claimed that the most dangerous type of punch is the one that comes outside of your realm of consciousness, the one you practically cannot fathom even being thrown, let alone anticipate and react to it. Miyata managed to pull this off against Randy Boy Jr. because he is a prodigy in both technique and speed. Aoki, however, is capable of creating this kind of state in his opponents' minds practically at will, all through carefully building up to it and choosing the correct moment to execute. Instead of disappearing from the line of sight of your opponent using lightning-fast footwork, you simply create the perfect deception for the opponent to move their line of sight for you. Aoki is a fucking genius.
@@cherryapple2986 Miyata never did the look away. He just managed to get the same result as Aoki by moving so fast that he disappears in front of his opponent's eyes and delivering a devastating counter. Not being able to see him throw the counter, his opponents are hit with a punch that they aren't even aware of, and it does great damage. If I remember correctly, Miyata vs Randy is around chapter 815.
The scary thing is that there _is_ a psychology behind it, and Aoki figured it out- exploiting basic human instinct to look in the direction that another fellow human being is looking. Ippo noted that it happened to him alot whenever someone like Coach Kamogawa entered and exited the gym, and people would averted their eyes to greet him- he would turn and look with them as well. More importantly, Aoki had to bring Imai down to that state to begin with, a point where he wasn't throwing punches every half-second; that's why he spent the previous rounds allowing Imai to wear himself out. This is why Takamura's attempt didn't work- because he used it from the start without understanding why it was effective in the first place.

takamura a man who never fell for something twice, fell for aoki's trick. If Aoki just did this before he might land a punch on takamura's face once.... or maybe twice XD
Well wait till you see his new move he made up but then evolve it when he used it in a fight and lost a point but still won and gonna be using for a special someone who's the Lightweight champion
I never noticed this in my first watch through everyone in the crowd at 1:08 turns and looks where Aoki is looking which absolutely killed me but at the end of the video when I noticed Itagaki's dad making the same face Takamura made I was crying with laughter Hajime no ippo might be the funniest anime series of all time.
I just love the 2nd time Imai is LITERALLY terrified of looking away. xD "NO! NO DON'T DO IT! PLEASE! PLEASE DON'T DO IIIITTT!" Imagine this kind of fear man...
The funniest thing is that not only the champion, not only Takamura, not only the whole audience, but even the announcer decided to look away from the fight.
there a scene where Aoki fights another boxer who uses the look away at the same time as Aoki, cause both fighters to just stand there looking in opposite directions
Watched anime since 6 year old, never laugh as much as this moment. It's was so genius. But Aokis is a genius at boxing. He know exactly how to play with Human instinct.
Jersey Joe Walcott's knockout on Ezzard Charles is a good real-life example of the look-away. It's hard to see the look happen but you have to understand that it has to be incredibly quick to work.
In principle it’s a good idea, in the moment the get caught up and don’t have room to think and just react. It’s an effective faint that probably caused more damage than his initial punch would be since he wasn’t ready for it
The best part is that the music never stops being intense, it never switches to a stupid sound, is treated as a serious moment from start to finish which makes this a million times funnier.
Honestly, if I had to count memorable moments in all of animated Hajime no Ippo, it'd have to be Ippo's second win against Sendou followed by Takamura's win against Hawk. This would be third place, maybe tied with Takamura punching a bear to death.
Its honestly one of the the most amazing, but the most dangerous. Even kamogowa has never seen anyone do what aoki does and make it work. Its truly aokis best strategy. He looks and finds the best way to make his opponent's rhythm be off. But its only effective if aoki is ssrious on winning.
I love that, even if they're comic relief, Aoki and Kimura are not bad boxers, in fact, Aoki's rough and unorthodox antics and Kimura's outbox make them pretty respectable fighters, but they just can't seem to grasp that belt 😅
@@alexeiharp7676 Not just that, Aoki set it up. He completely exhausted his opponent and then went in for the kill. Takamura did it right at the start when his opponent was as fresh as a daisy.
@@irvinmorales1409 thats true. Its basically a mental game that only aoki knows how to use because hes used to fighting dirty. But its his style how he does it so well.
One of my favorite fight in Hajime no Ippo.. 🤣🤣 we thought aoki is idiot and never use his mind in boxing, but this fight Aoki is Genius. I'm so proud of this man 🤣🤣
