The funny thing is he's drafted ahead of Michael Jordan and no one complained about it. It's just show how great Hakeem is.

Same thing with Iverson and Kobe. Kobe was the best player in that draft but no one complains about Iverson being drafted first. Two all-time greats with the first pick, just GOATs drafted after them.

@@silverback7675 Kobe was a 12th pick in the draft and had 5 all star level players drafted ahead of him. No one is complaining about two hall of famers being drafted before someone with that low of stock. People like Hakeem and AI were locks at number 1 pick with no debating. MJ vs Sam Bowie, Oden vs KD or Luka vs Marvin Bagley are the type of things people complain about. Nobody complains about Curry being picked behind Blake Griffin because there was not a chance in hell Curry was going first ... Same goes for Kobe lol

Almost every player dont play decent posting up now a days. Centers are not being taught to post up. Also the coaches devalue them. Also not let them get many scoring chances. Short shots are far easier to make points off of.

No, Mchale was just the only other player of note with footwork. The Dream Shake include a fadeaway, hook, lay up, and dunk. Mchale either had a lay up/dunk or spot up from the base line.
@RamaSivamani
@RamaSivamani 4 года назад
@@jms6605 He may have, Mchale did have a lot of moves. The difference is Hakeem was way quicker and more athletic than Mchale. The only reason I'm not sure about this though is that Hakeem himself says the dream shake was inspired by misdirection moves in soccer that he adapted and applied to the game of basketball.

The reason that move worked so well, even when you knew he had it, was because he was probably the quickest and most agile center ever. He was so fast on that first quick turn, that if you didn't fully commit to it he'd just go right by you. Damned if you do, damned if you don't
@jms6605

Jsh Shh he also saw Kevin Mchale make similar moves, but Mchale faked and moved towards the basket, Hakeem was a fade away.
@jasonkassa4130
@jasonkassa4130 6 лет назад
And McHale's was 100% footwork+height... Hakeem took it to another level with a couple aspects 1)Athleticism 2)Extended/Freestyle ... Hakeem much quicker and more explosive. And whether he adjusted on the fly to 'reads' or not, Hakeem had moves layered on moves and a syncopated rhythm where he'd get the first step while you attempt to balance and react. Hakeem is the evolution of McHale's up&under. McHale did some things better (dirty work, positioning, screening, role-play), and was a heck of a player, but Hakeem at his peak was on another level.
@ATLienForLife
@ATLienForLife 4 года назад
One reason why Hakeem started perfecting his fade away was that during his first few seasons he got no respect from the officials. Unlike other post players such as Kevin McHale, they consistently called him for offensive fouls when he made a move toward the basket, which is ludicrous when you could recognize his footwork. And when they weren't calling him for offensive fouls, they wouldn't "consistently" call fouls on the defensive player. So kinda out of necessity he developed and perfected all the moves we see today. I guess, in a way, we can say thanks to the refs. Lol

Hakeem is the greatest Center of all time in my book. Shaq was very dominant, but Hakeem would’ve been a star from multiple positions.
