What would happen if I change my mac-address and for some reason, I choose the same mac-address of some device already connected to the same wireless network? would it still work for both clients? would the frames collide?

I like using the GNU macchanger to change my mac. It can generate a random mac for you.

For Future me: How to bypass usage block in a certain wifi, by changing the MAC address. Also, how to change MAC address of a certain adapter on linux.

you mentioned a few times in your sistershow that your favourite pentesting distro is backtrack, so im assuming that you are running it on this hacktip, why not just do a "macchanger --mac (MAC address) wlan0" insteaed of all that ? also, love the hackktip!!! want more!!

Not to bash, as this is interesting and awesome, but I believe this is generally considered cracking, not hacking.

macchanger is also a nifty program.

I recommend you try Backbox Linux, if you can. Also, could you do a HakTip on building honeypots on BackTrack.

Changing the MAC address for me has the consequence that the "network is unreachable", so I have to reconnect and as soon as I do so, I have Internet access again, but the MAC goes back to the old one.

curious... what do you tap on your phone? Are you controlling some sort of Teleprompter with it? I see Shannon doing it to, although she swipes, as if moving the notes on..

when you change the MAC address, how do you change it back to the original MAC address with out knowing or memorizing the original one?

in tutorials for cracking WEP keys using BT, ive found commands: wlan0 down macchanger -- mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 wlan0 does this acheive the same thing?

Is the only way metasploit?? I would like to hear about some other options if possible

hmm, weird, I changed the MAC with macchanger, but when I connect to other Wifi networks, ifconfig tells me, my MAC is back to the original one

So, does this permanently change your MAC? Or does it reset itself when you reboot?

Does your MAC address reset on reboot?

Probably because I don't think you can actually change a mac since it's part of the hardware. I'm pretty sure that just spoofs the network (aka macspoofing). Someone correct me if I'm wrong since I'm kind of new to all this.

I tryed following changes IN /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf: managed=true and /etc/network/interfaces: auto wlan1 iface wlan1 inet dhcp hwaddress ether [MAC] HELP MEEE pls
