Promiscuous Mode on a local LAN (that has a switch) will only show multicast frames on Wireshark (we will see broadcast frames when Promiscuous is off / on).
i like it far more that your long show, just because it is concise and stright, i can't watch the long shows (Hak5) just because it's contain so much junk (in my opinion). keep up the good work.
@GarrettBMXes have you tried putting backtrack linux 5 on a flashdrive using uneboot? from there all you have to do is make sure that you boot from usb and youll be fine. All you need is a flashdrive with 1.8ghz of space which is fairly cheap nowadays.

Since playing with the new backtrack on my asus aspire one, when i run dump i get bssids popping up but i never get any stations associated with the AP's when I know there are ones. Is there something my broadcom card doesnt support or some setting that needs turned on?
I don't know much about Linux yet, I still have alot to learn. But I have a question.. How did he know his interface ID was "wlan0"? The command before he typed this was displaying a ton of information about the interface.. but I didn't spot that ID. Was it on that screen? Is this like common sense in a Linux based OS?
+Morilin I'm hoping you've found your answer in the past year, but in case you haven't, or anyone else is wondering the same thing, here's my answer;) dmesg did not actually show him the interface ID (the logical name). There are a number of ways to figure out the logical name of your wifi card. The most common one would be the command "ifconfig", which shows you a list of attached network adapters, ordered by their logical name, along with information like IP address and MAC address. "iwconfig" is used specifically for wireless connections, and shows you a list of the same logical names as before, but with information about the wireless network like bitrate, SSID (which makes it easier to figure out which card you're looking for) and operating mode (as shown at the end of the video). My preferred method however, is using "sudo lshw -C network". This gives you more thorough information about the network card, like whether it's a wireless or an ethernet interface and the chipset (so it can also be used to look that up in stead of the methods in the video as well). The name you need will be under "logical name". This makes it much to recognize which network card you want to use, especially if you're unfamiliar with the way the system normally names these things (wlan0 is, or at least was, pretty standard, though my system uses wlp3s0 now).
+Morilin ps: I'm not sure if lshw comes installed by default on a lot of distros, but it should be easy enough to install and can give you information on a lot of other hardware as well.
