Them singing Moanin is by far my favorite performance on the entire American Idol history... so underrated that I almost feel angry that people don’t appreciate it more
These two are a hit wherever they play. They make a good duet in the jazz genre. I just love when she does that jazzy, sexy voice thing and the yodel which she has mastered.
CB Viau Except Casey at times squeezes noises through his pipes that you could never call "notes". He is very good much of the time. I guess we just have to take the rough with the smooth with Casey because you never know what notion he might take, and what he'll come out with!
@@gynack he's playing bass while singing harmonics - it's basically like Orchestration training - he has to transpose multiple clefs while listening to Haley. Yeah I prefer his bass playing over his singing but still - this is mind-blowing.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 I suspect it's quite easy to do that - when you're that good. The huge difficulty is becoming that good in the first place! 👍
Haley is fab....So beautiful and so cute at the same time. So talented. She's a little out there sometimes but when she just sings without all the vocal Olympics she has a truly beautiful voice.
Idyllwild Arts is completely cut off from internet, only students and faculty have access, so no way to stream anything, only thing left to do is put away your phone, sit back and enjoy the show (unless you're me, I get enjoyment out of being allowed to video, edit and publish these amazing people so I can enjoy the shows again and again as often as I like ;) )

On a different vid, a guy got roasted for saying how she looked in short shorts. Then there is this performance. She could wear baggy jeans and a floor length trench coat, but she chooses not to. I'm glad.
There is. Eventhough scat is based mainly on improvisation, there are still some general principles for it to work. Don't get me wrong, I love these 2, but his scatting was sad.
Does Casey make those ridiculous noises when scatting because he's aware of his normal voice limitations, is it because of lack of ideas, or just plain Casey craziness?
I think of Casey and Haley as two sides of the Jazz coin, Casey represents the wild, unfettered, gutteral and exuberance while Haley represents the more refined, free flowing, ethereal side. For me, it's their differences that go so well together that make them so enjoyable to see live. I might be up there to be one of a few people to have seen so many of their performances together, so I can say, there's been several times IMO where their musical contradictions makes beautiful music together. Their Room 5 show where they sang All About That Bass for the first time, and the Bossa Nova version of "Cry Me a River" comes to mind as a perfect example of this. it doesn't always hit, nothing is perfect, but when they do sync, it's like nothing you've ever experienced and always enjoyable :)
I think of the first time I saw Joe Cocker's performance of "With a Little Help From My Friends" at Woodstock, when I was young. I saw a man squirming, growling, going slightly off tune, singing until his voice cracked and I thought to myself.... that's not how the Beatles sang that? But the more I listened to his Beatles cover, the more I loved the pure emotion, the artistry and well... he made a Beatles classic and turned it into a Joe Cocker classic... One of my favorite versions of Joe Cocker's Beatles cover is done by Haley and Casey at Room 5. As big a Beatles fan as they both are, "Caley" performed Joe Cocker's interpretation. I am fully convinced of both Haley and Casey as musical phenomena, so I just sit back and enjoy what they have to offer, I let the artists create the music for me to enjoy
++HaleysTusk I like a lot of things about Casey. He obviously is very talented although I've never had the chance to see him live whereas I did get to see Haley in Scotland. There are a lot of tracks on YT showing them performing together. The chemistry is definitely there, and they seem to stimulate each other. I just wish Casey wouldna go overboard on some of those noises he makes. Ach well, that's just Casey I suppose. You take him for what he is, and enjoy the many good things about his performances.
Exactly! I go way back w/ these two to the American Idol days, I 'experienced' their growth, together. Idol tried to 'tame' Casey, he got a wake-up call when he was eliminated in 11th place, but got the judge's save. The 11th elimination was a literal 'life changing moment'. Had the elimination held, he would not be able to go on the tour w/ the other Idols, gain live experience etc. At the time, only the top 10 made the Idol tour. With his save, Idol, for the first time, were going to have 11 Idols tour. That tour revived interest in the Idol live show because of the extra-ordinarily diverse and talented cast. Casey's first performances after his near elimination were in control, artistic. But as the show went on, he started reverting back to his manic, almost aggressive style, with flashes of musical brilliance. Eventually that got him eliminated in 6th place. From 11th to sixth showed that Casey had grown in experience and popularity. If Idol and near elimination, missing the tour (and money it makes them) didn't cause Casey to 'change his ways' I'm not sure much will be able to. In many ways, that was Haley's experience w/ Idol too. They wanted her to 'pick a genre' but her instincts didn't let her, she was all genres and they looked at that as a negative, when Haley turned it into a positive. They wanted to make Haley one way, she couldn't let that happen, she had to be who she is. All artists should always be who they are I follow alot of artists now through my work w/ this channel and following Haley. I tend to enjoy and support female vocalists. Casey is one male artist I enjoy supporting, I like his rough edges, because somewhere along the way, he will hit you with a moment of true musical brilliance. Casey is a major reason Haley joined PMJ. There is no one that performs w/ Haley, gets out of Haley, what Casey is able to do. He makes her laugh, they have natural, effortless synergy and are at ease w/ each other. It's a magical confluence and I'm lucky as hell to be able to experience so much of it live. I enjoy both Casey and Haley for exactly the people they want to be ;)
The story of how Haley and Casey came to PMJ are in Scott Bradlee's book, it's a fun light read and you get some insight into Scott and some of the talent. Short version, Scott moved to the West Coast from the East Coast. Eventually got a residency for PMJ at a club in LA. Jacob Scesney, who started and was a school friend of Casey's played Sax for Scott's off and on at this gig. He referred Scott to Casey, Scott's impression of meeting Casey for the first time is hilarious. Then through Casey, Scott got referred to Haley. Haley showed up one night at the club, I believe she sang All About That Bass, a song she had sung weeks ago w/ Casey at Room 5 and the rest is basically history. I would recommend getting Scott's book, even has a section on that fateful day off in Switzerland where he did something PMJ had never done before. Re-record an arrangement they already did w/ different singers. On that day, PMJ recorded Creep w/ Haley and All About That Bass w/ Haley, Casey, Morgan and Ariana :).
Yep sorry but your band has lost the plot with this version.; for me ! nothing to do with the singers or players, its just a departure from what you do best; crooning Is NOT what you do best, is it ? almost any Crooner / singer can perform this Crooning etc
I know, but I find chicks her height to be incredibly sexy without wearing clodhoppers. In fact, in the few times I've seen her in flats, I thought she looked awesome.
++Glad Hand Aye, it's not as if she needs ridiculous, dysfunctional high heels to give a decent shape to her calves. They're plenty shapely even in flats. Actually, she ought to go barefoot at times, particularly at thon warm weather outdoor concerts like this when she's wearing very casual clothes. That can be very sexy too.
Trevor Morris...That's what I was thinking. A lot of rocker chicks perform barefoot. I bet Haley would look incredibly sexy barefoot with painted toenails. Hell, look at Joss Stone, she is always barefoot. Indeed, I wish she would just let it all hang out. There is no need for chicks to be subconscious about their heights as a ton of men like me find short chicks sexy. It also makes them appear curvier which is a good thing and not a bad thing.
