The truck mode looks messy because they ran out of budget. I think it would be cool if they re-released this figure fixing the back if the truck, as well as a few other modifications(different grey plastic, different shoulders, better accessories, etc)
I'm amazed how accurate the on screen transformation is to the figure! That truck kibble is probably the worst I've seen since Power of the Primes... Prime, but also like that guy the robot mode makes up for it.
This reminds me of a student working super slow and meticulously, making the best school project ever... ...and then realizing that it's due tomorrow, staying up all night scrambling to get it done before class only to run out of time and turn it in unfinished.
12:25 you know? you could use Optimus Prime Shoulders to move those pieces instead of doing it with your finger just point out his arms up and use them to move the sholders, would be much easier I think
It looks like the blue part was meant to swivel down into the lower part of the legs in back of the truck but they ran out of time or money and just had it peg in vertically instead. I bet it would have looked fantastic in vehicle mode had they finished it.
@@davidm4566yea the people behind this figure basically said they had a limited budget with this figure because it was originally going to be a retool of the ss38. But they decided to make it a fully new figure besides some minor parts like the windows. They wanted the figure to release not that far away from the movie so they had to stick with the retool budget they had planned for this one
Why this figure is in the bb line is because this was a planned retool / repaint of the Bumblebee Movie Optimus Prime. But I assumed they were allowed to make a new figure
Yes and no. Its in the buzz worthy line because of that and that it is a target exclusive. The real question is "Why did they put the only Optimus Prime in the studio series line into a exclusive?" Seriously even if its aretool of the last prime figure it still feels like the wrong character to make a sole exclusive without it being an alternative colored version. Like the blue & black night leader class prime from the 1st bay movie line. Atleast then it'd be a cool throwback to a repaint that's over 10 years old.
For me, this figure and Evasion mode Prime are the only figures that feel easier to get into vehicle mode than robot mode. Yes, you read that right. To me, the conversion from Robot to vehicle feels smoother than vehicle to robot. To be fair, my SS 102 Prime has modified legs.
Apparently Hasbro said they ran out of budget which is why the truck mode looks awful from the back, as most of the budget went to the robot mode which is why it looks great. But it doesn't bother me since I display my transformers in robot mode anyway and have the ROTB mainline voyager Prime in the truck mode next to the SS102 Prime.
I figured that was kind of the case. Though given this was a live action Optimus Prime figure, especially one that’s meant to be exclusive for the time being, I do wish more budget was allocated for the figure. When you look at ROTB Prime’s truck mode, the back doesn’t have a normal shaped truck bed. It’s sort of a hexagonal bar with wheels and such attached to the side of it. And given the shaping of that truck bed, I think this would have been an excellent opportunity to perhaps give the legs an asymmetrical transformation. Have one front of a leg rotate up and into the middle and have the other front of a leg rotate down and into the middle. Afterwards you would then have the feet fold in and when you tab everything together you’d get a truck bed that’d be similar to what we got in the movie. Of course that’s just one way that I personally think the truck bed could have been done on this figure. I still love the look of this figure, mind you, but I do wish more could have been put in to perhaps make it the current overall best SS Optimus Prime figure in robot and vehicle mode. This is ultimately something I pin a lot more on Hasbro itself rather than the toy designers.
Yeah sadly the figure wasnt perfect. Some sacrifices had to be made to make it at least look good in some way. (Imo head's a little too small as well) Side note: Little Balt part was adorable as heck. Keep up the good work Balt!
The back of the truck and the fact that I own SS 38 is what held me back from wanting this figure. But damn that robot mode looks so much fun to play (especially posing) and i get more intrigued to get it (If I can find it)
Not just the since where optimus said stand down. It was also used in the since where he said. I’m going to take back scurge key and then take off his head and the last since everyone Gard the key
Something must have happened in the development of this mold that compromised the truck mold. I wonder if we will ever get a slight remold that will fix the back of the truck and maybe actually include the additional transformation that it looks like it must have had at some point in the design process.
Lol and OMG. Coolest figure ever. Cool music and colors. Cool weapons. Optimus Prime is so cool and funny. I'm going to take scourge's key back and then take off his head was Optimus Prime's most badass line ever.
this is hilarious when you compare this Prime to Volvo Prime's vehicle mode which looks soooooo much better. Why can't they make it look that clean for any of the Primes?
I’m gonna say it I think BBM prime is better it has a better vehicle mode and when I think of prime I think of a big bulky robot so it exactly captures what I think of when I think of Optimus
There they have an excuse. It's Galvatron. This is a G1 style prime so probably more like intentional budget cut or something. Also I would argue that he cleans up better than prime.
@@robowarrior369 they admitted during the Fan First Friday livestream (I don't remember which one) that the budget ran out so the transformation design could not be completed.
@@robowarrior369 My only guess is limited production. They were probably not expecting a lot of people to want an Optimus Prime figure with an incomplete vehicle mode.
My figure unfortunately came with a broken left fist. It was fixable, but the way it was broken, it made the transformation very difficult. Hopefully the other one i just ordered is without any problems.
Tip the shoulders up and use that leverage to move the inner shoulder joint. Also, you forgot those little grey pieces by the smokestacks. They're supposed to twist 180°.
An oddly minor petty thing that really annoys me about this figure is his lack of movable fingers. Perhaps I'm spoiled by WFC but going from Earthrise that had that to then these vert generic hands really bothers me as i want to do stop motion but his hands are so boring to look at
Eh, while they did do a better job transforming into the truck, I thought they were actually the worst part of the robot mode. They were really strange to pose and the panels kept untabbing constantly. 102's legs are great to pose in robot mode, but they suck ass in truck mode. I think there could've been a happy medium in there somewhere if 102 had more of a budget to use than just 4 molds.
Does your figure have the same problem as mine where if you transform the legs all they way, his vehicle mode becomes bent? Cause I noticed the cab of the truck is bent forward a little bit, and that’s the same thing I did to try and “fix” the vehicle mode problem.
I heard that apparently the Takara Tomy RU-vid channel has the opening three parter “more than meets the eye“ in Japanese. The problem is, I can’t seem to find the RU-vid channel anywhere.
@@androzani84productions85 both versions of the RU-vid channel actually show up. I just don’t know which one has the “more than meets the eye“ Japanese dub.
My stance is: robot good, truck bad. SS38 is better IMO because the robot is comparable and the truck is way better. A more balanced figure that also comes with a freaking trailer hitch
Wtf is up with the 3mm ports!? These are all but useless and incompatible with EVERYTHING else because they never use them! This figure is both great and terrible at the same time.
Main people claiming they prefer the mainline and the ss38 are the ones coping the fact that they missed out on this one. Which i cant say i blamed them
The DNA upgrade kit costs as much as the entire figure and doesn't do much. If you think Hasbro is lazy, well, that DNA kit is so much worse. The only good part of that kit is the Noah figure, and maybe the cannons.
•I replaced SS102's head with Siege's and it could still transform, proving the head could've been wider. • Hasbro should've borrowed shoulder and leg engineering from SS38
For the shoulder part, do you mean in how the shoulder poses? Because I don’t see anything wrong in how it transforms. But I do know some people are turned off with this Optimus having the “Hot Rod shoulders” that make shoulder posability look a little awkward.
@@Zygomatic_Bolt Just checking. While I’m not the most bothered about the “Hot Rod shoulders”, I do know that those shoulder types don’t look the best when it comes to posing.
Gun is wack. I agree. Shoulder articulation is not the best but its not that bad in hand. Luckily dna design came in clutch. But the hip joints are nowhere near fragile. They feel nice and sturdy
