Mike has been making money from RU-vid for years and had this channel up since April 10, 2012, but was unaware that you can like comments. A true professional focusing on the videos and not unnecessary fluff.
Mike doesn't have a lot of time for "comments" or the RLM "community", but he does have a "burner account" that he uses to "interact" with people who "piss him the fuck off" enough.
"Being excited about Star Wars feels like being excited about the next season of NCIS" really articulates a feeling about the Disney movie products I haven't been able to put to words until now
I mean I'm sure there are people who are legit excited about a new season of NCIS, but I get it. Star Wars is just another franchise now. I guess it always was but it's painfully obvious now.
Mike not knowing that you can 'like' RU-vid comments almost brought a tear to my eye. There is a point of no return once you have delved too deeply into the 21st century lifestyle. And I'm happy Mike is an internet celebrity making money on RU-vid while still living like it's 1995. It's like 'You know, I have this buddy and we sometimes film ourselves talking about movies. I think he uploads it to the Internets or whatever it's called.'
Only comparable to the hit TV series Half In The Bag, where we witness the transformation of two guys being nice to being someone from Milwaukee, Wisconsin
I remember watching 'The Batman' and thinking "this is pretty good... but what would make this REALLY enjoyable is if 2 strangers on RU-vid watch it too"
They aren't strangers. It's also usually more fun if they talk about something people actually watched and not some hipster bait with 10 minutes of cake eating.
@@TheGoukaruma they are strangers to you, weirdo. go watch dr strange 2 again and stop begging these unknown men to watch your superhero nobodies ever heard of. “the batman”. yeah right.
Hearing the pain in Mikes voice "they say *It's not that bad* " It's like his spirit left his body for a second so he could say it without activating the neurons and remembering the hellscape of Picard.
@Jonathan Jones But no it was a garbage ending to an otherwise solid almost trilogy. Maybe a 2.9999ogy. The last half hour shat the bed and made everything you chose throughout the game, come down to "which light you want, red, green or blue?"

Yeah exactly couldn’t agree more. Season one was near perfection, and wrapped up really well. Season two was a mess with a few good moments, and then season three was just awful.
I watched Severance because of Jay's recommendation, and I can't thank you enough. The show is absolutely stunning and has easily become one of my favourite shows I've seen in recent years.
Yeah, Severance was magnificent. Really interesting and disturbing. Great music as well. I really hope they nail season 2 cause the first one was really great from start to finish.
Did not expect you guys to know Kids in the hall! My wife was the costume supervisor on this new season. She is very proud of the gag she worked in, in the 60 on the pole sketch she crafted the fake tesicles in the tighty whities out of chicken cutlets (not in the script) She was so proud to show me her balls on screen.
Why did you not expect them to know a revival that was specifically targeted toward them and their age group, seeing how they were the perfect age when the show was in its heyday?
Mike trying to recover from Picard is like stapling the corners of the carpet down. It’s hiding the abysmal stuff underneath but you can tell it’s not right.
@@gameboypunk660 A space 'Kitchen Nightmares' where a Twi'lek Gordon Ramsey visits Dexter's diner and shits on his food would be great. Later on there would be a heart-wrenching moment where Twi'lek Ramsey makes Dexter confront his crippling addiction to death sticks.
Its so frustrating that he seems to lump it in with game of thrones and mad men even though (imo) its leagues beyond any other teliviaion show Ive witnessed in my life. As Mike says, it perfectly represents this cycle of violence that the main character keeps falling into, each time his deeds becoming more heinous and each time saying it will be the last time he stoops that low, as everything begins to fall apart. I mean the evolution of the house even, watching it fall to disrepair is rough. It just never treads water not knowing whwre to go, its a show that 100% has a plan and you just need to trust it. @@HNfilms better call Saul is not better imo. The actors are wayyyy too old and characters like Gus have become absurdly over the top, it’s like a cartoon at times And odenkirk is just so old and tired, it’s wild that his character is supposed to be in his thirties
One of the most interesting side effects of shows made during the Covid era is that we get these isolated shows with smaller ensemble casts with very few extras. Severance could practically be a stage play. 👏
TV show producers need to finally decide if their show is "just like a long film, whose length makes it as deep as a novel" or "going to have seasons til it runs out of money" Honestly, they've been soap operas in disguise for over a decade now.
They usually all start as a "long movie" in the mind of their creators, with a beginning and an end. Then if it's financially successful, the producers / network / platform tell them "we want more. We will pay this much". The creators rarely say no, because money.
@@duconmicro4331 dont forget they will also threaten to remove the original showrunners if they dont comply for a second season, leading to begrudging sequel seasons just because the original crew didn't want it in someone else's hands
There needs to be a "Mike Talks About Stupid Ghost Shows" show. I remember watching A Haunting when I was a kid. The production was pretty good for one of those shows. Even their episode that inspired "A Haunting In Connetticuit" was good, and arguably better than that movie.
They basically did in their Demon House episode and Mike sprinkles in tangents from time to time. Not sure how much more we’d get out of a dedicated episode
tbf, it'd also feel kinda pointless to me. Like why discuss a show that's been absolutely discussed to death and where everyone is of a similar opinion anyway? Not saying it's only worth voicing unique opinions, but if you don't at least have something to add, eh, why bother ...
I watched The Batman only a few hours after getting hit by a car and breaking my collarbone in two places. In the theater I almost fell asleep because the sheer amount of opiates I was given. When I woke up the next morning I was in the greatest pain I'd ever felt in my entire life and it took me 15 full minutes to wiggle myself out of bed. That is all.
I watched Back to the Future III not long after breaking my leg and having an in-law who was a doctor tell me it was fine. I was 5 yrs old. I love that movie. That is all.

Season 1 is so perfect and so well done, it tells a complete story that has a satisfying ending, and even though I was really excited about season 2, as soon as I started watching it I completely checked out. I got a few episodes in and just stopped.
Same. The second season was okay but they just got so lost in their own irreverence with the technology and "humanity" and by season 3 I just couldn't care anymore.
if ozark was a ball being dropped like a neutron star, westworld is an object of ever increasing mass and velocity shooting further and further down out of the universe with each passing season, its baffling how bad and nonsensical its become after that first season

I like to imagine that during this time Rich Evans was speaking perfectly articulated sentences and transferring all of his mispronunciations to Mike and Jay
I really hope we get more Mike talking about ghost shows. Seriously. Is he like a connoisseur of ghost television? Like gimmie the Mike top ten ghost tv shows. They're hilariously bad.
@@pjcane1177 You're genuinely missing out on some amazing belly laughs. I've gotten more actual laughs by myself watching ghost adventures than I have watching any comedy film ever. No hyperbole.
I agree. It doesn't wrap itself up well enough. Watching the last episode a second time, they did explain what the characters will do after, but I didn't even catch that during the first viewing. It didn't seemed like an ending to a series thing, it seemed like a planning for the next episode thing It's a conclusion, but it's execution is questionable. They could have done so much better.
I got 9 minutes in and had to pause the video to go watch Severance. I just binged the whole show in one sitting and it was incredible! I used my free week trial of apple tv+, so it didn't cost me a thing. excellent show! I'll be there for season 2 (whenever that comes out).

Speaking of shows ending on a cliff hanger and not getting renewed, the tv show, "Sledge Hammer", from the 80's, wasn't sure they would be renewed, so they had Sledge accidentally set off a nuke which destroyed LA in the last episode of season one. Then they were renewed! Great show.
Man, great to hear you guys enjoyed the new Kids in the Hall. My dad was the producer on it and wasn’t sure how it would do. Also, he produced Cube and I was on that set as a child and it disturbed me in the best way possible. I know you like Cube, Mike.
Cube is fantastic. It set a high bar for me when it comes to claustrophobic scifi horror. It was so inventive with its kills and the characters were so well defined. What did you get to see on set?
@@idHeretic I was VERY young, but I remember seeing the main “cube”. They used that one set the whole movie and just changed the colour of the lights behind the walls. I mean I like watching them suffer just as much as the next guy, but I don't really care about those franchise. There are maybe a dozen RLM videos that I have never watched and all of them are about the Stars, Trek or Wars. (Mainly because I've never seen a single episode or movie of ST, and not a single episode and "only" 7/11 movies of SW stuff)
I, for one, am sick of the Star Trek and Star Wars stuff. There's nothing left to be said, the franchises are ruined and anything coming out related to them is a sad plastic imitation. With regular movie and show reviews on the other hand, there's a chance of finding something actually good out there - or avoiding something terrible.
@@odkres the irony is those are the videos that lead to their channel blowing up. But honestly, if you've never watched those movies you're not gonna enjoy their deep dives into them so you've made the correct choice.

I finally did watch it this winter and I have to agree with Jay in a way, there are too many Episodes for the story it tells. Like, it's an amazing show, obviously but it really draaaags at times. I usually love some well written dramas (which is why I was so pleasantly surprised by Arcane) yet BB did not quite hook me. It would have IF I had watched it back when it was fresh. Kind of like GoT now, I think. If I were to ever re-watch Season 1-4 I may feel similar. What I'm trying to say is that yes BB is good, incredible even, yet you do have to invest a lot. And knowing the show through cultural osmoses does not really make that time worth it, IMO.
The lack of Everything Everywhere All at Once fills me in equal parts with hope that it will get its own episode, and dread that it may ever happen at all.
I don’t know why but this was like the best first 10 minutes of half in the bag. It just seemed so genuine and like they were having a real conversation
When I saw that final episode of ALF ending with a 'to be continued' as a kid back when it was first aired, I assumed it was a 2 part final episode and the next week there was soccer on TV (live in Netherlands) and I thought that was the reason they didn't air the final final ALF episode and I was pissed about that forever until there was the internet and I finally found out there never was an episode following that last episode
I remember that! I was in 8th grade. But there was an ALF TV movie in 1996 called Project ALF. It’s god awful but it does wrap things up. Plus ALF goes to a strip club!
"Lady who was really good" is Britt Lower and she's fantastic. I know her from Man Seeking Woman and Future Man, among other things (both great comedy series that both have dumb sounding titles, but for real give them a try).
I was SO happy that FROM dropped in Oz this week, last time RLM did a good review of something right up my alley was ‘Censor’ and it took years for it to stream down here. Same with ‘Saint Maud’ - YEARS to come out in Australia. Both were absolutely worth the wait, so I am GAGGING for this series.
Good stuff! I also recommend "Station Eleven". Also, I was surprised to see you discuss "Severance" without mentioning that an influence on its origin and tone is the video game "The Stanley Parable", which your colleagues discussed a while ago on "Previously Recorded".
I feel totally like Mike and Jay about severance: the first season has been one of the best shows I've seen in recent years, but I'm afraid that in the second season they will go more for a "mistery box / what are the answers to all the questions" kind of show, than keeping exploring this interesting science fiction concept.
I didn't know it was going to be an ongoing series. If I had, I would've waited a few years to see how it turns. When I saw the end of the season, i just thought "goddamn it". I've just been burned too many times.
@@scottosau I don't know with that cliffhanger ending. Hopefully season 2 goes well, but who knows? I agree about "Westworld". The first season can be watched on it's own with no problems. In fact, I have the first season on DVD. I disagree with you about "Game of Thrones", though. The seasons tie in to each other so much that you can't just watch the first three or four seasons and be done with it. There's no ending or resolution to the stories. I've tried to rewatch the series but I didn't make it past the second season because there's so much setup that doesn't pay off later.

Another good show with a mystery that actually knocked it completely out of the park in season 2 is Raised by Wolves. It's surprisingly good, and the main show-runner/creator/writer (not Ridley Scott, they just slapped his name on it to sell it) wrote a complete 5-season story arc before they even started filming the first season. Highly recommended.
Yeah its looking like it won't get renewed which is a real shame as Raised by Wolves is awesome and actually fresh and original. "Compromised Principles" -- a RLM series in which Jay has to watch "Breaking Bad" and then sit down with Mike after every three episodes and talk about how great it is and how wrong he was to have avoided it this long.
He's gotta be super pig-headed to not watch it. I mean, I haven't watched it either except bits on RU-vid, and have watched Better Call Saul up to this last season.
I lasted with Breaking Bad until sometime in S2... But there were so many scenes of Walter arguing with his wife... and I put it on the back burner and never went back. A lot of people told me that the transition from S2 into S3 is when the show really hits its stride, so I'll revisit it one day... but in the grand scheme of things, I still sleep fine at night. Ironically, I've seen almost all of Better Call Saul, just because I've always liked Bob Odenkirk... didn't even realize it was a Breaking Bad spinoff until sometime during the first season... So I think I am doing this wrong, as all the *wink wink* remember this guy from Breaking Bad?? *wink wink* moments are going over my head.
They didn't use a dolly to move Annie Leibovitz about, instead they attached her to that crane thing that Palpatine was connected to in Rise Of Skywalker. That dark side of photography is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural.
I had the same problem with Archive-81, I felt like even if it was fine in season 1 it had the potential to grow in season 2, but I guess we needed room for more seasons of Big Mouth.
