"Hey, Gordon. Gordon!" "Thank God you're awake, you gave me a damn good scare! At first I thought you were just messing with me, hiding in the vents and all that." "What are you talking about? Resonance Cascade? Xen? Government coverup? The Combine?" "You must've hit your head really hard. Don't you remember? We were racing through the vents when Dr. Kleiner locked himself in the office again." "It's alright, Dr. Vance cancelled the test when he heard you ended up in the infirmary. He says it wasn't all that safe anyways." "Now take a rest, I'll come see you when my shift ends. I might even bring some donuts."
This video makes me feel like im on an acid trip. Seeing all the areas i've played through hundereds of times already, in an unruined state, is just weird. Especially ravenholm, with it being day, and zombies arent everywhere, and highway 17, with there being actual water. And the distorted music and voices, that's just downright terrifying.
I really like the idea of this being like an end-game section of Half-Life 3, Gordon seeing the before and the first arrival of the Combine, hearing the echoes of the iconic encounters through City 17
These maps are more creepier than original. It feels more like something happened and everyone just vanished and Gordon is the only living being on Earth. Especially these creepy versions of quotes and eerie ambient. If you want a pre-war version, please, make many NPC wondering and doing everything. And more atmoshere more lively.
what did you expect, that they put hundred of models and skins of inhabitant with their animations? remaking the HL2 levels in a "normal" version already ask some work, don't be too demanding about it
@@daegnaxqelil2733 maybe im 2 years late, but probably now it could be updated having real citizens by the drgbase scene snpcs addon, with actual clothing instead of the full blue suit of normal citizen npcs
it also makes little sense often (like Ravenholm) this was before Minerva Metastasis, after which maps became far more logical and looked like something people would actually make
City 17 and Ravenholm are also in a European country, cars are much less prevalent over there since things are much closer together, with some cities roadways being built long before the invention of cars, back when even horse-drawn carriages weren't really a thing. So the roads are much more narrow because they weren't built to accommodate automobiles, and the most traffic they experienced was foot traffic, and the occasional horse pulled cart.
I think they write about it in all level design manuals. If you use real world sizes in your levels, then through 1st person perspective everything looks off. Real interiors feel too cramped and low for 3D action, and real exteriors are too wide.
This is some sort of a creepypasta right here, lads. It's like nothing happened. No 7 hours war, no Xen invasion, no mysteriously looking man in suit with briefcase and glowing eyes. Just a man, who don't remember his own name and empty world without any trace of humanity. Car sounds, trais leaving their stations..? *I T ' S A L L I N H I S H E A D*
Gordon! You're finally awake! That fall looked really bad. What? Aliens? The combine? A man with suitcase? What are you talking about? Let's go to Black Mesa.
"Gordon! You're finally awake! The radiation hurt you really bad. What? Resonance Cascade? Aliens? Alyx? Oh, i remember you talking about her. Grigori? You mean that random russian guy we met? Man, with that much information, we could make a book!"
This video makes me feel like Gordon was just a schizophrenic who traveled throughout City-17 in a crazed manic state, and this is his realization that everything was just in his head
I was liking the video already, but when the coast part apperead IT BLEW MY MIND. I already know that the water levels are down in the HL2 but seeying this is amazing. Great video bud.
If these maps were given NPCs they should consist of both civilians dressed in clothing from before the Combine took over, and soldiers from the UN Peacekeepers and Bulgarian armed forces guarding various locations and battling the occasional Xen Fauna from the Portal Storms. Unless these maps are intended for just before the Resonance Cascade with normal people going about their daily routines, then I wouldn't mind seeing that as well as what ruined versions of each map would look like Post Black Mesa Incident-Pre Seven Hour War with some of the additions I mentioned above. But it is creepy without seeing any NPCs doing scripted actions or players constantly bunny hopping, messing with physics props, and screaming obscenities into their microphones or typing random gibberish in chat messages. I will miss those days when Gmod was that active compared to today.
Imagine if The G-Man actually granted Alyx's wish to nudge Combine off earth and everything returns back to normal. But the unforeseen consequences is everyone is gone, not killed, not mutated, they just like never existed, you are stranded alone in a "peaceful" world of void.
I always imagine what it looked like before the combine arrived. Such a damn shame. A place beautiful like ravenholm is overtaken with decay and death.
plot twist: this is after the resistance wins against the combine and repairs all the human architecture to it's formal glory but since they gotta rebuild all the cities in the world, the human population has to stay in city 17 for now but when Gordon makes his way to the train station to get to his destination, he has severe PTSD
it's so beautiful see the city in a normal situation without that chaos... but liminal without persons... creepy... and i don't know why but this remembers me the HL2 Beta for some reason
That was bloody beautiful! I just wonder why the water levels are still low in Water Hazard when concrete constructions have visible water lines way above the actual water.
This feels so surreal, like if all the events in Half Life were just a bad nightmare or some horrible hallucination. Like, if the disaster never happened either due to the test being cancelled or due to it going all according to plan without any outside influence
@@Turbs94945 After I Read This I Realised What Was wrong Edit: But I Like To Call It That Way Some Time Ago So That's How I Remember The Name Of The Map
Everything still looks so decayed, Yeah. This is just gordon if he's gone completely insane, And is the sole survivor of some horrific disaster post HL2 it looks like. This is gordon with severe PTSD and mental illness / hallucinations after the resistance won. And everyone is dead expect him somehow, It was in the midst of the resistance restoring buildings, Everyone alive just vanished, Leaving gordon to have reflections on the past and lose his mind.
I thisk this is what gordon freeman dreamed while sleeping. But then he was waked up by the gman. The hl2 action is in the bulgary in the city called sofia
I like to think this is gordon imagining how better life was for other people and him before the resonance cascade happened, and before the combine came
Bit of a random question but how do you get that sort of ghostly echo effect when you play dialogue etc in the background? Heard it in other media and I’d like to incorporate into my projects
This actually takes place after Half Life 3, where Eli Vance sacrifices his life to save the world from G-man, and the Combine. Oh wait, you guys don't have HL3 yet?
I like the cutscene where Chell met villagers nearby the cornfield, became a mother, then a grandmother and told stories about her adventures of aperture to her grandchildren.
Clearly made by a person, who's never been to Easter in Europe. It now feels more alien that when overrun by Combine: 1. Too many signs in English. All signage should be in Cyrillic or bilingual. Also, where are all shop windows and advertisements? 2. What happened to Soviet or Eastern Bloc cars? GAZ, Giguli, Zaporozhets and all other cool vehicles with ugly names? Why only generic Japanese vehicles? 3. No dirt or garbage. There always should be a corner, full of cigarette buts and crumpled paper. Also not trash cans? Really? 4. No graffiti or paper adverts? Eastern Europeans have a peculiar tradition of illicit adverts with tear-off phone numbers.
tbh i think the name "Ravenholm" would be a post invasion name considering the location is on eastern europe also when i look at it again, the layout looks kinda confusing lol that aside i think the broken roads and bridges around the coast and the canals should be rebuilt
We are in 2000. A morning, peoples from Ravenholm and around read the news, it said "Atomic explosion at New Mexico, USA". Nobody expect such unforseen consequences.
