Half-Life 25th Anniversary Is Pretty Cool 

lol uplink is on internet for years... If you really wanted to play it you would have already played it, and it's just one level of the original campaign.

​@@Sidonio5I think a lot of people don't realise how much content is out there for games they played decades ago. I still have my original boxed versions of Half Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift, but haven't looked for any updates or mods until relatively recently. It's the same for many of the old games collection.

uplink gives you emotions just like original Half Life. Its greate, but short

This is a funny comment to me because I played uplink when I was about 6 or 7 years old! Great memories. You’re gonna love UpLink. It’s unique. Wish it were a tad longer!

Yeah as someone who does web design, bootstrap and modern design leads to things looking pretty cookie cutter. Valve in general seems to not just fit the mold with it like with the Dota 2 patch notes sometimes. They always write so self aware too and not like fully super corporate "we are proud to announce" and more "Look we know this had been left untouched, our bad"

I miss the days of Frutiger Aero.

@@D1cksontello I have to mention, since you talk about how they write so self-aware, I loved the "because we don't play on CRTs any more" part of the HL patch. As a dota player as well, they tend to be quite funny, which is not usual for patch notes AND taking into account that the company "doesn't really communicate". Valve is great, over-all.

@@Deliveredmean42 I think you misunderstand, the feature is actually already in place, backported from CS into HL1 directly. It's just the SDK missing it currently, and Valve teased the SDK will also be seeing a "full update" in the future in the changelog.

The weapon bobbing hit a memory spot for me, i remember first playing half life on my family's old computer when i was like 8 and that version is the CD one i think. I distinctly remember the original main menu

Since there is no actual beta storyline, they should make a finished version of the map with Manwich and Peters (I think it’s sniper_29 or something).

They did change the brightness and gamma settings. Originally it defaulted to what games used for CRT monitors.

They've fixed overbright setting which contributes to the lighting improvement.

Valve isn't Electronic Arts to charge their 25 year old games at full price. It's not their biggest cash cow anyway, so no big loss on their end and certainly not on us players.

It's good publicity. If I had to guess, their goal is to artificially pull people into the game so as a more active title its modding scene will explode. Having an update just double all of the limits of your engine is kind of nuts.

Well... that might be a problem for people who don't own the game and need it mounted on Garry's Mod for specific addons.

You can play a pc port made by Ukrainians

You can still buy it on steam or if you had it before it will still will be in your steam library. It was just delisted so that it won't confuse new half-life players who will think half-life source is better than original(it isn't).

I didn't like the hud either. You can opt into the old version in the beta tab.

If you want to play any mod or Opposing Force and Blue Shift you need to go to betas and change the version to *pre- 25th anniversary build* and you should be able to play them with no problem.

The problem is, any new Half Life game has to live up to people's expectations, which is a hard thing to do. We want the same, recognisable HL universe, but different and better. Modern games take so long to produce, require so many people and cost huge amounts of money, it's no wonder companies struggle to produce new AAA titles and get their money back.

@@another3997 It wouldn't be as hard if Valve released at least some new Half-Life titles, be they spin-offs or shorter experiences a-la Episodes I & II on a consistent basis. I don't mean anything as extreme as a new title every year like COD, but every 3-4 years, so that whoever is still at Valve is familiar with the property and knows how to best make games for it. You're not gonna be as passionate about something if you only get to work something new for the property every 12 or so years. Furthermore, talent comes and goes. What truly made great Half-Life games so great was a team that functioned like a well-oiled machine; it wasn't just one single person behind everything. Now, when it comes to AAA, I'd argue a big reason why they cost so much money and also thus need a lot to break even is bloat. And I don't mean software bloat or code spaghetti - I mean useless people sitting in middle management who's sole purpose in life is to be the red tape that ensure a two-hour fix turns into a month-long discussion with meetings, charts and lots of talking and very little doing.

I should have clarified in the video. Basically it just wont show up in Steam search. At least that's what Valve says on the HL25 Website.
