In this video, we take a look at a classic Half-Life mod from the early 2000s. It is a rally racing mod and I'm surprised to see how well it was designed, especially for GoldSrc standards.

Fun Fact: There was plans to make a sequel in Source but the Creator found the physics of HL2 to be too difficult to work with and not grounded enough to make a Rally game in. A prototype was made with screenshots but was sadly never released.

Honestly sounds far better then Artifact or whatever that card game was called. Only thing to memory that thumps Artifact was the out of season joke that was Diablo emortal presentation to paying fans traveling to be sold a mobile cash grab.

This is still an impressive technological achievement and I love that you used the retro NFS music. Actually this game reminds me of Colin McRae Rally 2.0, another classic 90s (technically 2000) pc racing game.

Several cancelled projects if i remember correct, even one from this HL1:Rally team. And also Mario Kart mod and Need For Speed mod for source.

Attempts to get realistic car physics working in Source largely failed, Source is a wonderful engine but apparently has some weird limitations when it comes to this sort of thing.

It's really amazing to see Half-Life being converted into a racing game as a mod.. This is like in Assetto Corsa where there are mods that have free roaming capabilities which turns the game from a racing game to a open-world driving/racing game, which makes it cool.

The devs were trying to make a HL Rally Source a long while back but it got scrapped due to some problems they couldn't overcome, I think they did release the source code of what they had so far though!

Yay Rad's back. Also it's so weird to see functional vehicles in HL1s version of gldsrc. The only other game I think had that was 007 nightfire, although I think GearBox had to cut them because they couldn't make them work in gldsrc.

Man I've played this mod quite a bit and i think i can safely say it would be amazing to have a source counterpart especially considering how far vehicle physics have come on stuff like gmod and whatnot since 2004. Cool video Raz!

bro with this mod there could've been a perfect 007: Nightfire PC port. the only issue was half of the driving missions were cut out because EA couldn't figure out how to get car physics to work in GoldSrc. only alternatives at this time could've been Half-Life Rally or func_vehicle from CS 1.6

This mod has a soundtrack as far as I know. You just need to toggle the music player when you are in a race. There are 4 tracks in total and I believe you can add your own.

Half-life modders are definitely the best modders out there, they created couter strike and it was so good it became a game and franchise of his own, and they turned a whole first person shooter into a rally game, it's amazing

ahh in garrys mod we used to make as realistic cars as we could, suspension on rigid ropes, springs n stuff and then we used to race these things writing traction controll in e2, automatic countersteer and stability control traction control and many more, hella good times on cr8ative server and many many previous build servers with ACF engines and sprops. God i wish to see jackpody afk for a whole day straight when building his mercedes or have someone being yelled at for using too many props on body of his car

I first played that mod in early 2012 and enjoyed the hell out of it, even if it was playing with bots across all the maps and game modes. It also has community made maps available for download. Besides that, every now and then I play it with my older brother in local games and we have a blast. Next mod you should cover Rad must be BumperCars. You won't regret it. 👍

These all rally cars are 3D models from a rally game known as Richard Burns Rally Richard Burns was a legendary British rally driver who became the WRC Driver's champion in 2000 with Subaru. However he sadly passed away later on.

It feels so weird to see RU-vidrs reach deep into my childhood nostalgia and turn obscurity into ""content"". NFS Rom Di Prisco music was a nice touch. You glossed over car tuning pretty quickly, but it's worth mentioning that you earn money and buy upgrade parts, both which disappear after a map change so it kind of reminds me of Counter-Strike. Since this is Goldsrc, mouse support works too and steering with it can get you very smooth racing lines. My favorite useless detail is how Half-Life's flashlight effect is essentially repurposed into car headlights.

It was a fun mod. I remember playing it when there were still players online. I think it was one of two Half Life mods that showed that GoldSrc could do vehicles.

you know whats interesting? Gabe Newell is not only a fan of racing, he has his own racing team called Heart of Racing. They're going to be the factory team that will run the Aston Martin Valkyrie in the top class of wec and will contend overall at Lemans. So in a way, valve has always had a connection to motorsports.
